Agreed. That's what insurance is for. Years ago our AC leaked and ruined our floors. Insurance paid over $10k to have it all fixed.

Thanks @Chucktshoes. So for those of us with the OG Handgun Carry Permit, we don't need to do anything other than renew like normal?
-
My question was somewhere rhetorical. I find the timing of this change odd because Tennessee just went to permitless carry recently. Not full constitutional carry but close. So one doesn't even need to get a permit to carry most places but NOW Tennessee wants to add these background checks for people who actually have a permit? It doesn't make much sense.
-
Ok. What does that have to do with my question?

Why would they pass this law after just removing the requirement to even get a permit? This is the first I'm hearing of it.

Senators reach a bipartisan deal on gun safety legislation
Erik88 replied to cgpeanut's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
We've now seen the most horrific mass shooting since 2012 and came out relatively unscathed as gun owners. It has become increasingly clear that the entire gun control debate is used and loved by both parties. The Democrats know they can't really do anything and probably don't want to because they know it will cost them. Someone mentioned they were probably relieved after the latest SCOTUS ruling. The Republicans use it for votes and create fear any chance they get. They actually helped the Democrats pass this bill because they know they have gun owners by the balls and nothing in the bill was bad enough to upset us. I have been a member here since 2010 and been through many election cycles where we were assured the next Democratic victory would lead to the end of the 2nd Amendment. I still remember people saying Obama was going to put us in FEMA camps. After the events in the last month it's going to be very difficult for me to believe that serious gun control is possible. The Supreme Court has made it clear where they stand. Republicans will need new fear mongering material for the next election. I'm sure both sides will come up with something to keep us fighting with each other. -

Except on January 6th? -
Looks familiar but I can't remember what this is from. Who is he?

He also said the door was not locked and they never even attempted to open it. They didn't need a key. The door wasn't capable of being locked from the inside because something was wrong with the lock. They just completely #### the bed on this one. Kids died because of their decisions. The police chief sounds like a clown. He showed up without a radio. Additionally, their radios didn't work inside the school. The diagram of the school they were using to make decisions was partially wrong. Only the border patrol agents radio worked but not without some issues. Just an all around disaster.

It seems politics is creeping back into what's supposed to be a "fun" pictures thread.

Actually I've been consistent on this for over a decade. You just like to twist my words when I speak out against republicans on other topics. I genuinely hate both parties and seriously doubt republicans care more about the 2nd amendment than they do getting re-elected. If the political winds shifted and the GOP thought gun control would help them, they would do it. In fact, we have a history of gun control being used by both parties to keep guns out of the hands of black people. I like to make liberals feel guilty by pointing out how future gun control will disproportionately impact minorities. The same cops they claim are evil sure as hell won't enforce these new laws equally. Much like the old crime bill and war on drugs, gun control will be a disaster.
-
We have to ask what we're actually wanting to accomplish when considering new laws. Unfortunately none of the proposals the Democrats are after will do anything to lower crime. Let's not forget many of the school shooters stole their parents or relatives guns. We're sending billions of dollars to Ukraine when we could be spending that on school security. I think Democrats would rather pass gun control than actually work to make the schools safer.

Honestly, what laws do you think will help? I've been thinking about this a lot. -"universal" background checks? Not a chance. Nearly all these mass shooters passed a background check. The rest of people commiting gun crime will never worry about taking a background check. -red flag laws? Again, seems unlikely and terrifying. A lot of these shooters didn't even have red flags such as the Vegas shooter. The ones that did have known issues law enforcement or their family dropped the ball. -assault weapons ban? Nope. The evil POS at Virginia Tech killed 32 people with a Glock and even a mix of standard and 10 round mags. The last year we have data, 2018, the FBI says only 297 people were killed with rifles compared to 6,600 with handguns. https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u.s/2018/crime-in-the-u.s.-2018/tables/expanded-homicide-data-table-8.xls -Raising the age to buy rifles? Seems like a feel good attempt to say we're doing something. Also seems like we can't decide at what age people are really adults since we let them vote and join the military at 18. We have a lot of issues in this country but I'm really struggling to think of new gun laws that are going to stop this aside from an all out Australia style round up. Even then, the black market for guns would go on for decades. The other uncomfortable topic hardly being discussed is what % of this rampant crime is gang related? That's why they barely discussed the Chattanooga and Philadelphia shooting. That's a huge problem we won't even begin to solve. If anything, we need affordable access to mental health treatment and increased focus on rebuilding the family unit. Anything else is a huge waste of time.

Nashville shooting breakdown
Erik88 replied to Chucktshoes's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Agreed. They handled this one well. The officers used cover well and did what they needed to. Thanks for sharing. -
This is my fear too and why I said I doubt we'll see $2.50/gallon again. I can't find the article now but I read that the last time the price of oil was close to our current amount, the price that we were paying at the pump was a decent amount less. More cost is being sent to the end user or it just cost them that much more to produce.
-
Agreed. But it seems the chef in the kitchen spit in our food but we're blaming the waiter. During Q1 of this year, the largest oil companies made almost $100 billion in profit. Exxon saw their net profits almost triple from the previous year. None of these companies are in any hurry to increase production. They are going to bend us over as long and far as they can.
