We hired the inspector, not the seller. He did catch other issues like I mentioned. It's well known that a home inspector will never catch every issue. I lived here 1.5 years before figuring this out. It's a 32 year old house so if this is my worst problem I'll take it. I'll get it fixed and move on. I'm going to get a few estimates from Heat and Air companies before ripping out the ceiling. They may have a solution.

No worries. That's a good problem to have. If you know anyone down this way you'd recommend let me know. I'll keep researching it for now.

Is Knoxville too far for you to travel for a job?

How would that work? My plan was to feed in 5' sections of 4" diameter mental duct tubing from the outside but I had my wife stick a broom down the hole while I watched from outside. I can't even see it. I could barely see light when she shined a flashlight. It seems they didn't even cut the hole in the house in direct path of the dryer. It's on opposite side of the floor joists I think.

Here is what it looks like from inside the house. A road to nowhere. That would be the backside of the sheetrock in my basement I assume.

Looking for some feedback on this. We bought our home in May of 2021. The inspector caught some issues we had addressed but missed a big one. Recently my dryer stopped producing heat. When troubleshooting that I went outside and looked into the cover where the dryer is supposed to be venting. I about fell over when I shined my flashlight inside. There is no duct. The laundry room is 10-12 feet from the nearest exterior wall. The flex vent dumps into a hole in the floor.... And that's it. Instead of duct running under the floor, there is nothing. They literally have it dumping into my floor which is also the basement ceiling. So for who knows how many years, laundry heat, condensation and lint has been going into the space between my first and second floor. Amazingly, it seems dry and I don't see any mold. I can't see that much obviously. To run a proper vent outside I would either have to rip out my hardwood floors upstairs or my finished ceiling in the basement. I do have attic access so I could run a duct up the wall into the attic and then do a 90 degree turn outside. I heard this is a bad idea. The last option I found is an indoor dryer vent. Basically an overpriced crude device that tramps lint and some moisture. Surprisingly they have good reviews. I'm leaning towards this but curious what others have to say. This forum really likes to fuss about electric vehicles. I've never felt like someone was forcing me to buy an EV. All the car lots here in town are still selling gas vehicles. I'll keep my 21 year old truck for now.

I'm never going to pull for Georgia just to prove what we already know about the SEC. I hope they get destroyed by TCU.
-
No we didn't have time but my friend went there to place a bet. I'm sure it would be fun to watch a game there.
-
Crazy game. We watched from our hotel in Vegas. I hope TCU wins.

I only learned about CTIS in the last few years. So jealous. Let's see some pics of your Hummer.

No. Just my camper shell which probably helps a little. The guy I was pulling had pallets in his bed but it didn't do him a lot of good. Pretty sure his tires were bald.

Show her this. My wife took this video of me pulling a guy up our hill in my 2002 Tundra. This was the 2nd 2WD truck I had to help. Good tires are important too. I never even spun a tire while doing this.

Things seem to be going to hell in a handbasket.....
Erik88 replied to Grand Torino's topic in General Chat
My issue is that after Texas had their grid failure TVA swore we could handle a sustained period of negative temperatures before we would have issues. So either they exaggerated or something changed. It's a little concerning we had issues with a few days around 10 degrees. It was only a mild inconvenience losing power for 15 minutes so I'm thankful it wasn't worse. -
The roads in Knoxville are a mess. My neighborhood had at least 10 abandoned vehicles. I had to push a guy in a 2WD pickup earlier. I'll never own a 2WD truck. I went for a quick ride on the Sting earlier.
-
I can only vaguely remember the details. Something about you getting in trouble with Walgreens corporate.
-
Remember when Texas had their major power grid issues? When that happened TVA said we would be able to handle sustained periods of negative temperatures before we had issues with the grid. I wonder what has changed. Perhaps Bull Run being down would explain it.

I can tell I'm not one of these people because I've never been fast enough to see @Grand Torino knives still available for purchase. By the time I see them they are already sold. Usually within a few minutes.

Across the state or just in certain areas?

I just took our husky for a 5 minute walk. That was all I could handle. The wind chill is intense. I need a ski mask to be comfortable but scare all the neighbors.
-
I just picked up one of the smaller ones on sale yesterday at Northern Tool. I wanted something to create heat in case we lost power. Thankfully I haven't had to use it yet.

What does everyone have their thermostat set to? I turned ours down to 63 last night. We'll see if I can stand it that cold today.
-
I'm sure it's happened before but I can't remember temps this cold in a long time. If I'm on a slab, do I still need to let sinks run a little?
