  1. There was a police shooting in chicago and the gun that mysteriously turned up at the scene was one previously purchased by the police department during a buy back. Pretty obvious what happened there...
  2. I'm obviously biased but I would much rather live in Knoxville or Chattanooga. I went to Nashville in 2015 for a job interview and was absolutely blown away by how bad traffic is now. I thought I'd somehow teleported to Atlanta. Knoxville is small enough to avoid some of the headaches found in bigger cities but still big enough to never be bored. Downtown continues to get nicer as well. Plus I can drive in just about any direction and find a place to go hiking.
  3. I follow a couple guys in Instagram that spend their free time using metal detectors to dig up WW2 artifacts. It's pretty amazing what they are able to find.
  4. I think we are more likely to see an AWB pass at the federal level rather than the state level. I'd be cautious in saying that it's impossible here though. In the past few months we've watched as 2 Republican governors have signed new gun control measures into law. I don't trust anyone at this point. That being said, if you're looking to move to a place that is more gun friendly than your current situation then I would say TN could be an excellent choice. If I were you, TN would definitely be on my list of possibilities. I'd also consider WY, MT, ID, UT and AZ because they wouldn't involve a move to the other side of the country. South Carolina, specifically Greenville, would be towards the top of my list too. I don't know what your job situation is but that would probably be of bigger importance to me than gun laws. I will say that TN seems to be doing really well economically, certainly better than most of our neighboring states. The PacNW is a pretty amazing place despite all the B.S you're describing. It's really a shame to hear what you're up against. edit-just saw your comments about being in IT. That gives you a ton of options I would think.
  5. Is Springfield doing their gear giveaway right now? You might score 3 free magazines. Edit--yep, they sure are. http://springfieldpromo.com/
  6. I always liked the XD's. I think you get a lot of gun for the money and the GRIPZONE doesn't bother me either.
  7. Do you notice any trends in your classes or does Murphy seem to strike all manufacturers?
  8. That's probably a safe bet too. I've read about people sending money off for gunbroker purchases and then never receiving the gun. I suspect that risk is a lot lower if the seller has sold hundred of items on there before.
  9. I've had no issues with Gunbroker. As others pointed out, just make sure the seller has isn't a one hit wonder.
  10. Man, we've not had a thread go this far off the rails in a long time. @luke9511, congrats on the new SAINT. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
  11. The solar panel seemed to work fine. It was cloudy out yesterday evening when I shot and the brightness of the dot automatically adjusts based on the how much light is present. When I read the manual I believe it said that most of the power comes from the panel and the battery is only intended to be a backup. I was really pleased with it. I'm really not sure what to do about the MPX. I need to put more rounds through it and pay more attention to which mag I'm using to see if I can isolate the problem. It might be ammo specific too. I know it didn't like Freedom Munitions.
  12. I finally got a chance to use this one yesterday. First impressions are good. I think it has a lot of value at this price point. The screw caps have a built in notch on the top that act as a flathead tool for adjusting the windage and elevation. I'm sure that's not unique to Holosun but I thought it was a nice touch. The "shake awake" feature was also nice. Simply pick the gun up and it turns on. Sadly, my overpriced MPX is the least reliable gun that I own. I really like the gun but it's not something I can trust at the moment.
  13. That's quite the number. I'm curious how much the other side raised though. They had a lot of momentum this time.
  14. I hear it's full semi automatic...
  15. So, he's no longer nude but possibly still on foot. Apparently they think he may still be in the wooded area near his apartment. I didn't realize that Google now identifies the site of shootings(or similar events) on their maps. The yellow area I highlighted is an elementary school.
  16. On another note, I'm really surprised he hasn't been caught yet. How far can a naked man possibly go on foot?
  17. I can understand why they are split. Both sides make a good point. ""I'm not writing a law that says you can't do it — I just think it's dumb and it's dangerous waters," Rep. Bill Huizenga (R-Mich.) said. "I have a pretty high bar before I'm going to go in and tell the private sector what they should and shouldn't be doing."
  18. Back in 2010 in was in a bank about 10 minutes before it was robbed and I was armed with my Ruger LCR at the time. It's a very weird feeling later on when you start think about what might have happened. Obviously, this was a lot worse. I'm really thankful your daughter was not there.
  19. Not anymore than someone could prove it I suppose. I'm of the belief that we have a lot of people in this country not getting proper treatment, or any treatment, for their mental health issues. If you take a country of 300 million it only takes a small percentage of really sick people to commit this type of thing. Of course some people are just evil too.
  20. I can't imagine many parents want to believe their child is nuts. I'm sure the dad is feeling pretty horrible right now if these details are true. I don't know IL law but it seems very odd that the guns can be returned to someone other than the owner. It's not like he was a minor at the time either.
  21. One of the patrons is definitely a hero for having the balls to charge the gunman and wrestle the rifle away. https://www.cnn.com/2018/04/22/us/waffle-house-shooting-hero-tennessee/index.html
  22. So funny that you made this thread as a similar subject came up on Reddit today. In 1973 the drummer for The Who passed out on stage. They then asked if anyone in the crowd could play drums. 19 year old Scott Halpin stepped forward from the crowd and joined them on stage. The video isn't great but here it is. 1:39 mintues is when they ask the crowd for help. He starts drumming at 1:40 and went on to play the rest of the show with them. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scot_Halpin

    Gas!!

That's true but oil prices are at their highest level in 3 years. There is a lot going on around the world right now. https://www.cnbc.com/2018/04/19/us-crude-rises-as-oil-stockpiles-fall-gasoline-demand-hits-record.html https://www.usnews.com/news/politics/articles/2018-04-11/oil-prices-reach-3-year-high-amid-global-tension
  24. I tried them a while back but I don't need an excuse to go there again. That place is great and the staff is friendly. I might run by there one day on my lunch break.
  25. Right, I can find them online(and that's a good price!) but I want to physically hold one first. None of the local stores in Knoxville can seem to keep them in stock.
