I picked up a Maverick 88 there last Christmas and was pretty horrified by the gun handling skills of the younger workers. One of the clerks decided that the best way to clear a hand gun was to point the barrel at his own chest and rack the slide. When he told me he just bought his first gun the previous day, I made a friendly suggestion that he take a safety course and learn how to properly handle a gun before using it. Otherwise, typical big box experience. Outside of the occasional sale, I don't see a reason to go back for a gun anytime soon.

Pulled over last night - carrying
M1_Garand replied to zenman's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I got in a minor (no injuries) car wreck the other night, and two KPD officers responded. When they asked for my information, I handed everything over including my HCP and was told "thanks, but we don't need that." The officers did their job in a very professional manner, and it was pretty much a non-event that I was carrying. -
Glock 22 IWB right side in a crossbreed supertuck, Ruger LCP in a Desantis Nemisis or Superfly pocket holster, right front pocket; keys (monkey fist and ASP Palm Defender) in left front pocket; cell phone clipped to belt. Extra mags in jacket or cargo pockets if applicable. I don't always carry the Glock (depends on what I'm wearing, where I'm going), but I carry the LCP everywhere it is legal.

Just remember that Christian and Newsome co-operated with their car jackers and how that turned out for them. No thank you.

Yeah, the first few times I carried, I felt like I was wearing a bright red shirt that said "I have a gun!" Now, I have to remember to keep my shirt pulled down to keep it concealed. I think most people are completely oblivious to their surroundings, and won't even notice that bulge in your waist band / pocket. My gun (G22 IWB) has been uncovered by accident a few times in public, and no one even noticed.

I guess it just depends on who you get. My wife got pulled over by a KPD officer a couple of weeks ago for speeding, and informed him she had a HCP and was carrying. He never asked to see the gun, stated he thought everybody should carry, and had a lengthy discussion about her LCP, Glocks, and ammo types.

Frontier Firearms had a 20 gauge Saiga, but I took it home with me. I tried to see if I could order a 12, but they were back ordered.

I've been wanting one for a while, but kept putting it off. Receiving a couple of death threats through work, along with reading about the Christian / Newsome murders finally motivated me to start carrying. Now I feel naked if I can't carry.

A little project: Knoxville Carry Location List
M1_Garand replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Which entrance is posted? I went in there (grocery side) on Sunday after reading this thread and did not see any firearm postings, legal or otherwise. -
Right now the nightstand gun is a Glock 22 with a choice of 15 and 22 (factory) round magazines. My fiance has an LCP at her disposal, and I have a M1 Garand and a 1903 Springfield loaded and ready to go in the bedroom if required. The plan is to replace the long guns from "hd" duty with a good pump action shotgun and an AR / AK clone this year.

I purchased an ex. MNPD Gen 2 G22 from Mike Lett at a show back in February, and it shoots just fine - accurate and reliable. As some have said, the finish is a little worn (and is wearing more as its my EDC) but I have no complaints.

Has anyone actually been caught in a "DMZ"?
M1_Garand replied to aquaman67's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I haven't been 'caught' in a DMZ. There aren't that many in Knoxville, and the ones I know about I avoid because I don't want to support their business. I carry in improperly posted places all the time (West Town Mall comes to mind), but I generally try and go the extra mile to conceal and not force the issue. My handgun is a defensive tool, not one of political protest. If caught in a posted or improperly posted area, my defense plan is as follows: 1) Co-operate with property owner or their agent; 2) Leave if requested. -
How far before you pull your weapon?
M1_Garand replied to Bubbatn's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Yeah, that doesn't sound fun. At least she got to spend some quality time with her husband - I love a story with a happy ending. -

The only time I ever had anybody jump on my back was in college, and she was drunk - but she didn't want to fight. I exercised my better judgment and left the room before it got any further. -

Ok, 'definitely' then. -

/\ Agreed. If you are going to take responsibility by carrying a firearm, you need to develop the right mindset - including good situational awareness. A lot of confrontations can simply be avoided by making good choices and recognizing potential dangers before you ever clear leather. The way I see it, if guy has jumped on my back, I've probably screwed up in some massive way by putting myself in that situation to begin with. -
Full mag, one in the chamber. I briefly carried with the chamber empty when I first started, but as I gained confidence in my equipment, I started carrying chambered. That extra time might just make the difference if something happens.

I usually wear a suit to work, so I pocket carry an LCP in those instances. In street clothes (jeans, untucked shirts, jacket now that its gotten cold) I carry the G22. My preference would be to shoulder carry a service size Glock when i wear my suits, but I usually pull my coat off when I get to the office. I'm not sure what my employers stand on CCW is - but if its hidden its not a problem. I've got no problem with open carry, and around here, I bet that most people (assuming they even notice the firearm) would assume a well dressed individual with a gun in a nice holster is an undercover LEO. Open carry just isn't something I want to do.

I carry a Glock 22 in the 3 O'clock position in a Cross Breed supertuck. Hides well (especially if you are wearing a jacket), and is very comfortable. I have a Serpa that I use around the house (when I don't care about concealment), and it doesn't hide anywhere close to the Crossbreed. No frightened women, children, or liberals yet. No MWAG calls either. I've not had a run in with LEOs while armed yet, so I can't say about that.

Recent Knoxville Home Invasions
M1_Garand replied to M1_Garand's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Time for some grandstanding: Councilman Nick Pavlis wants action on South Knoxville robberies » Knoxville News Sentinel Aside from rounding up the usual suspects (known drug offenders and dealers), I'm not quite sure what more the police can do. IMO, the solution seems to be: 1)Take steps to make sure the bad guys can't find out if you have legally prescribed drugs in your home; 2) Make sure you aren't an easy target (locked reinforced doors, outdoor lights, yappy dog, alarm, etc.); 3) Easy access to loaded firearms and a plan to deal with any intruder that does manage to break in. -
A summary of some recent S. Knoxville home invasions: Home invasions hit S. Knox » Knoxville News Sentinel Seems that access to drugs (perceived or actual) is a running theme (big surprise).

Mine is a Glock 22, 2nd Gen. It was the first pistol I ever shot, and I'm pretty accurate with it. The most important factor is me is that is goes bang every time I pull the trigger.

Asking for a friend, since I know they have gone up since I bought my $50 M44 back in '04. Rifle in question is an M38, blond wood stock. 1938 Izhevsk production. The rifle finish and stock are in excellent condition, bore looks good. Only real negative is that the bolt looks well used, and the handle has lost most of its finish. What would you all place the value as?

Thanks for the replies. I did take down both LCPs and the extractors on both my wife's and my gun looked the same. I'll put another 100 rounds or so down range (and try her magazine in my gun) before I make any changes / send the gun back to Ruger.

Is West Town Mall Knoxville Posted?
M1_Garand replied to Lumber_Jack's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I've never seen a proper posting at any of the entrances, but I haven't been to that Regal since I got my permit. I carry in the mall all the time (why wouldn't you). Generally speaking, I only carry my LCP (doesn't print) and leave the Glock 22 at home since it is a gun-unfriendly zone. Same thing I usually do for those restaurants that have improper postings at their entrances.
