  1. Have you tried Sweeneys Poison Peanuts? It is not labeled for voles but I have been told it works. So all you have is grass? Normally they eat roots of perennials and shrubs.
  2. There are no lines on the road, they set up cones during the installation or setup then remove them. The cameras are on telephone poles, mounted on trailers, or mounted in vehicles on the side of the road. In TN if it is not a permanently mounted device an officer has to be within sight of the device. If it is permanent the officer only needs to check the device before and after retrieving data. This type of system isn't too common in TN, they are there though. I worked at a department with one.
  3. I am not referring to Barney Fife and his stopwatch, i understand that is the roots of VASCAR. Today's technology an officer sets up the complete system measuring the speed of the vehicle within the field of view using a sensor-based camera-vision system that calculates speed based on distance over time inputs. Boxes are set up on the computer screen with measurements and calculations of the vehicles lines and profile are taken, one every 1/10th of a second. The FPS is calculated into mph and the violators are mailed a ticket with two photographs of the violation. If they choose to come to court all ten photographs are shown as well as the video of the violation, all will have the speed displayed as well as the speed of the other vehicles on the road. People get all white in the face when this is shown.
  4. Oh man voles are difficult, I don't know that a roller will do anything except make the tunnels disappear. Is getting a cat out of the question? As far as a roller you want one with the heaviest footprint.
  5. The officer with a stopwatch now watches the videos and pictures. The speed is calculated to a tenth of a mph. Reflex is the biggest marketer of this technology. My old Chief got one, contested and lost.
  6. The guys I have heard of in court have not had an issue, they have sent them to school to get certified. It isn't true VASCAR, informally called point-to-point. It actually becomes their primary job. I do my RaDAR properly, the way I instruct my students to use RaDAR, I only use it to verify speed. It's a rare occurrence I use my instant on more than once an hour.
  7. False sense of security encouraging you to drive faster than you initially would have. Not to mention my favorite line, "I was going to give you a warning but I see your radar detector has already done that.". I tend to ride around using instant on so you want get a warning until you have already been targeted. With newer vascar photo technology you are also unprotected.
  8. I was 11yo in the fall of 1991. This was my second year hunting, had my own Marlin 30-30 and I knew how to shoot. I had been hunting about 6 times prior but no deer had been harvested. On my first deer hunt I had a 6-8 pointer come running full speed through the woods because the kid down the hill shot at it 3 times and missed. So anyway, juvenile weekend I am sitting on this little wooded hill in Tiftonia right beside I-24, you could actually hear the vehicles on the interstate. Through some clearings you could see Moccasin Bin across the river. This was my first time to hunt here, it was supposed to be the hottest spot for deer but no one knew about it. So that morning after about sitting there for 30 minutes I feel sick at my stomach. My dad and I hike back to the truck and drive 5 minutes to my grandparents house for meds. I tell him I feel like going back. We load back up and go back. After about 30 minutes I throw up, it's 10:30 at this point. We stand up to leave and damn if there weren't 3 does watching us. I raise the Marlin and squeeze the trigger, she goes down with a headshot. She was kicking and flopping. She went motionless after about 3 minutes. We haul the big girl out of there. Supposedly the area has been about hunted out, I don't know who owns it anymore, and there is a huge house close by now. I didn't go hunting for about 4years after that, I got into bow hunting so I didn't have to sit in the cold.
  9. I can vouch for .270's heavy recoil. A .308 may recoil as much, I don't know. I went from a 30-06 Rem 742 to a Rem 700 in .270, and the .270 kicked more. Really though, it shouldn't matter. Why not another .243?
  10. Other than the fine and possibly an insurance premium increase I don't see how it would hinder your life in any other way. Even when applying for prestidges jobs and government jobs they ask for incidents "other than" traffic citations.
  11. It really depends on the department, because of the extreme cost involved some departments have moved away from the computers, even though grants cover most of the cost. They are also a huge distraction to driving. I would venture to say there are less departments using in the car computers than there was 5 years ago.
  12. Your right, I sold my leather owb, Don Hume, shoulder rig, picket holsters, kydex Desantis, Kholster and my Crossbread after discovering the $12 Sport Combat holster. The Sport Combat holster is about as it gets at any price.
  13. Yes, the G23 can do something a G19 can never do which is shoot two other calibers with only a barrel change. I do love a G26 though, I feel the recoil and follow up shots are even better with the 26 over the 19. This because of the dual recoil spring and since the G19 has the beveled hood on the barrels chamber.
  14. I would probably just assume to have a G26 or 27 over all of them. For most people they shoot every bit as great as the full size models. I have been carrying a G26 Gen 4 over the last 5 months and have barely touched anything else. I actually prefer a G23 over a 19 for a couple of reasons.
  15. Something else, when a plate is called in at some places they only record it and not actually check it. If the officer request it they will give the status on the return. The reason I was told is it was costing too much for all the stops to get ran. I am serious, I worked at one of these places.
  16. No! I have to specifically ask for a cross reference to the RO of he vehicle or I copy and past your info from one page to another.
  17. Those ALS are unbelievable holsters. It's everything the Serpa should have been.
  18. Southern house spider is what it looks like. They are venomous it's rare they bite or inflict a serious wound. If you get bitten just keep an eye on the area.
  19. Growing up my neighbor had a graduation/18th birthday/ leaving for active duty celebration all at one time in the summer of 1993. He was partially responsible for me joining years later. His family is planning a retirement celebration for him.
  20. If OWB will work for you then pick up a $12 Glock Sport Combat holster. I have/had the drawer full of holsters. I use the Sport Combat for just about ever situation. I even pocket carry with one.
  21. For $300 and metal, probably limited to a Bersa unless you get really lucky on a S&W. The cheapest S&W single stack I have seen in the last few years was $425. AMT Backup is in that price range.
  22. You have several metal subcompact choices. There are several S&W single stack's like a 3913, Bersa, Kahr, H&K P7, and quite a few others.
  23. That's a difficult task, a lot harder than just glancing at a holster occasionally. I have probably seen more Federal brand hollow points than anything in Tennessee. Chattanooga PD is using 45acp 200 gr Federal Hydra Shoks, if you use something other than a 45 you supply your own ammo. THP last I heard was using Remington Golden Sabers. Most of your smaller departments make officers buy their own ammo or the departments buys whatever they can get.
  24. I really would fret too much over a trigger job on a Glock, a monkey could do one. Btw, nothing wrong with a Sig 2022, it's low price is a bargain, not an indicator of quality.
  25. The longer Glock mags will work. I have never heard of a single incident where someone needed more ammo for their BUG, I do see where it could happen. Just by having a BUG you are better prepared than half of all other officers. Get a BUG you will carry and one that you shoot well. I am a huge baby Glock fan, I shoot them as well or better than the larger Glocks.
