I have an aircraft aluminum American Derringer M-7 in 380acp. While this gun is a sob to hang onto at 7oz, I really wish it was a larger caliber. So I would like to have it rechambered in 9mm or 38spl. I would prefer the 9mm and I believe it would be the easiest to do. The chamber walls are pretty thick, AD chambered this same size stainless barrel and frame in magnums, 44, &45. The aluminum barrels were 22,32,380,38, and 44spl. So none of them were as high of pressure as a 9mm but I believe it can handle it, the walls are about .25" So can anyone recommend a gunsmith for the work or know about what it would cost to rechamber the upper and lower barrel? Anyone see an issue since this is aluminium?

If Carfax says it has an issue then it most likely will. However, I have seen a vehicle someone was killed in that had a clean Carfax. As well, if a vehicle has been stolen and recovered in will have a rebuilt/salvaged title depending on the state's system.

There are books written by exsecret service agents that worked full time just to keep the first ladies from finding out about the girlfriends.

I wouldn't feel bad, he should have told you. I have had a similar incident, I was selling a friends truck that was a 96 F-250 Power Stroke for 2500. This was 3 years ago and right before he was ready to pay I mentioned it had a salvaged title, as old as it was and as much damage was already on the truck I didn't feel it was necessary to include it from the beginning. He passed and called back wanting it the next day after it had already sold.

Gunsmith near Cleveland / Chattanooga ?

What did you ever do? I am looking at getting a gun rechambered. -
You folks that keep on slow-time must be miserable, tons of great life in Knoxville and Chattanooga.

That sucks man, S&W for about a decade has had major quality control issues, M&P's are no exception. I love the Shields though, it is worth the gamble on hoping you get a good one. My 40 Shield was flawless, if I had known there were 9mm barrels for $75 that dropped in I would have kept it. I just thought I wanted a 9 instead.

That is supposed to be one of the best places to go period.

Straight from the mouth of a M&P fan I heard, "The Shields have a better trigger than the regular M&P's". I had to check it out myself and I feel that the Shield is very smooth. My opinion is that M&P full size and Compacts have very inconsistent triggers one gun to the next. Every Shield I have felt has been smooth and consistent.

I am just curious where our older members were 50 years ago. My parents were toddlers, my grandparents were all I believe at work. One of my grandfathers was on a business trip to Texas that week.

Hauli, there used to be a gun shop, Security Professionals, or something similar on Oahu that was great. I regretfully passed on some police turn in S&W 38's 10 years ago for $200. It just seamed like to much trouble to buy in HI.

The mag disconnect is very easily removed. However, all those little levers and extra moving parts that Glock does not use is a deal breaker for me. I took a SR9 apart in a gunshop and got the slide stuck, along with the gunshop employee. It ruins my fast for forever. I do wish the LC9 would have just been an enlarged version of the LCP without safety crap.

If Glock made a polymer derringer along the lines of the Double Tap for a reasonable price I would own one. A 2 shot derringer the size of a LCP, D/A, firing 9,38,40, or 45 would be one of the most popular BUGs made, but I am not paying the $600 for the Double Tap.

It doesn't really add any collector interest to me. Something to think about though, every serial prefix will start with 000 or 001 but may not go all the way to 999 I was told.
-
I believe your statement pretty much explains the answer. As long as Glock is behind hundreds of thousands of units, no matter how good of a concept there is no need to produce it. Why spend the money on R&D when you can make more money just catching up on production of already spoken for items? The reason the Shield and the XDS come out was because Springfield and S&W had hit a sales slump. Glock has done well selling what they make. I still believe the G41 and G42 pitch is bogus. However if they use existing frames I could see the tactical 45 and double stack .380 happening.

Yes, there are always three sides, your side, their side, and the truth. -

Tropic Lightning! I never heard someone say after a firefight, "I sure wish I didn't have a 203." -
I like how they list the weight of the 41 as 15lbs. Ironic since I have always refered to the 21 as the Glock boat anchor, it's rediculous fat with a heavy slide.
-
Yeah, I have been following the thread for the last month or do on GT. A tactical version of the 21? The 21 is not a good seller, in fact it is not even one of the best selling 45's. And the 380 made no sense since they already make the 25,28. I suspect they will make it on a 17/22 for import reasons, again doesn't make a lot of sense. Leave it to Glock!

Yes, the dual recoil spring is a little softer shooting. Go for the 19C since it is what is for sale. I don think you will be unhappy, I also think the muzzle flash blindness is over played. The general opinion among compensated owners is that the C models are awesome, all around. They report no night sight blindness from shooting, supposedly the shooter never notices. Also the front sight post is supposed to stay clean.

Love it! Thank you, both! Will they be able to tell me if it is Aluminum or Carbon Steel? Yes, a magnet would also tell you. I will almost guarantee you that you have a steel cylinder.
-
And let Us know, we will make a note to not spend money there.
-
Put it this way, the model 38 was never designed to be a shooter. A few came with Aluminum cylinders which is bad, most will have a carbon steel cylinder which is a lot stronger. With that said, today's +p 38 ammo is about what was a standard load 30-40 years ago. I don't think you will ever be able to shoot enough +p through it to wear it out.

True for load, caliber, and handgun. I had a defense attorney tell me he stands a great defense if he can tell a jury his client protects his family with the exact same handgun and ammo the police use to protect them.
