  1. I have decided to just leave it the way it is at least for now. While it may be capable of handling the 9mm pressure I don't really know if it worth any expense to do the modifications. It is actually a sweet gun the way it is, a slight hair bigger than a NAA mini mag and weighs abou the same.

    .357 Sig?

There are a lot of agencies in TN carrying 357Sigs, second only behind 40 S&W. A few Feds carry 357Sig; Secret Service, FAMs, IRS Agents, SSI Agents, Treasury, Capital Police, BIS, and possibly more.

    .357 Sig?

The round itself, is ok. I have owned a couple of 357 Sigs. Honestly, it is only a hair faster and harder hitting than your average self defense round in +p 9mm. It will have less capacity in all scenarios unless you are talking about 10round Clinton mags, one of the reasons for 357Sig being appealing no longer applies. It is somewhat costly to shoot, but ammo isn't too hard to find. In the ammo shortage of 08 it was everywhere. A little less abundant in ammo shortage 12-13. If you reload it can save a lot and brass is abundant but the round is harder than most to reload. As far as shooting the 357sig, most say it is more 45acp like than 9 or 40. I personally can't tell a difference in any of the major 4 service calibers. Most every gun made in 357sig can go to 40 with only a barrel swap, and often 9mm too. Most everyone who gets a 357sig hopes to acquire a conversion barrel in 40 or 9mm, with that said the Glocks will convert the easiest and cheapest. There are not too many guns made in 357Sig, Glock 31,32,33 will be the most common. M&P's are no longer made in 357Sig but M&P's in general have continued to drop in sales. Sigs of course are common in 357sig. The Sig 239 is the only 357 that requires 40 mags to convert to 40, but 40 mags work with 357. The Keltecs are no longer made to convert to 357 sig. The Springfield XD's are pretty rare in 357 Sig.
  4. No, Glock $425+ tax(Ga 7%)+transfer $35 = $480 You can drive to Knoxville, Craig's has less of a selection, $425+.9.25% tax + $10 TICS= $475
  5. Only a few dealers will do GSSF pricing. GT's is the closest that I know of to us and Glocks will be $475ish OTD Gen3 and Gen4 G17/19/26 size frames. The 45/10 run about $550 GSSF pricing OTD.
  6. It will not be a problem, he will be very pleased to have it.
  7. Well, it is a Colt but still from a questionable time period for Colt. The 1911 platform was not really designed for the high pressure of 10mm, many will not own a 1911 10mm for that reason. Who knows how any rounds will break it, if it is possible. There is some collector value to a few if perfect. A far as it being a shooter, IMO it is not.
  8. If it goes on gunbroker expect to get $1000, try and sell one locally in Chattanooga and I guarantee you $650 is about all you will get offered. I tried selling one for my uncle a couple of years ago. I ended up trading it ~$700 and giving him cash.
  9. You will love it.
  10. While 9mm wouldn't be a huge improvement over a .380, I would like the most powerful two shots possible if that is all that I had. The 9 would use same rifling as the .380 so it would make the most sense, otherwise two shots of 44spl or 45, or some other big low recoiling bullet would do best. Part of it is just wanting to tinker but I would venture to say I would have the lightest 9mm pistol in the world. And the recoil I was not looking forward to, with the .380 it is snappier than a LCP. Accuracy is pretty good for a derringer, basketball size groupings at 15yards. I am curious if anyone has shot the same gun in .380 and then the exact same gun in 9mm? Something like a LC380 and a LC9. Just curious how much more recoil is in a 9 over a .380. I know a 9mm revolver feels closer to 357mag then 38spl.
  11. Pretty much summed up the FFL issue, how do you know it is. It a scam? There are tons of them out there now.
  12. That's the only reason I think it may be worthwhile, the chamber would need to be lengthened and slightly widened for a 9mm to headspace. Truthfully, the 38 could be done but it's not worth it. Not much gain and extra work over the 9mm to accommodate the rim. I reload and could actually reload 124gr in a hot .380 casing, but I would rather it be a designated 9mm gun. Changing the barrel is an option but barrels are $250 and appear to be machined into the hinge. plus the barrel will be stainless making it a 10oz gun over the original 7oz.
  13. And of course hard to do that without testing and destroying the weapon to begin with.
  14. I am afraid you guys are right, which has been my thought for awhile as well. While the American Derringers are over built I still suspect the 9mm was never chambered with a M-7 intentionally. What is the strength of a pot metal cobra compared to my aircraft aluminum AD? That is what has made me interested in the chamber reaming anyhow.
  15. I have studied those pressures, kind of makes me worry. Truthfully I can't imagine ever putting more than 100rds through it ever. I know the 38 would work, the aluminum barrels came chambered in 38. What intrigues me is I would most likely have the smallest lightest 9mm in the world, not to mention bullet selection. Also, I am going to try to carry a 9 all the time, this being a BUG.
  16. To be honest the whole system of labeling rebuilt vehicles is screwy. I have done collision reports on people hitting a deer just to come back months later telling me that their vehicle has a marked Carfax but a body shop can fix a car and not have to report it. A lot of this comes down to state laws and not all states to my understanding are on a state wide reporting system.
  17. I have an aircraft aluminum American Derringer M-7 in 380acp.  While this gun is a sob to hang onto at 7oz, I really wish it was a larger caliber. So I would like to have it rechambered in 9mm or 38spl.  I would prefer the 9mm and I believe it would be the easiest to do.  The chamber walls are pretty thick, AD chambered this same size stainless barrel and frame in magnums, 44, &45.  The aluminum barrels were 22,32,380,38, and 44spl.  So none of them were as high of pressure as a 9mm but I believe it can handle it, the walls are about .25" So can anyone recommend a gunsmith for the work or know about what it would cost to rechamber the upper and lower barrel?  Anyone see an issue since this is aluminium?
  18. If Carfax says it has an issue then it most likely will. However, I have seen a vehicle someone was killed in that had a clean Carfax. As well, if a vehicle has been stolen and recovered in will have a rebuilt/salvaged title depending on the state's system.
  19. There are books written by exsecret service agents that worked full time just to keep the first ladies from finding out about the girlfriends.
  20. I wouldn't feel bad, he should have told you. I have had a similar incident, I was selling a friends truck that was a 96 F-250 Power Stroke for 2500. This was 3 years ago and right before he was ready to pay I mentioned it had a salvaged title, as old as it was and as much damage was already on the truck I didn't feel it was necessary to include it from the beginning. He passed and called back wanting it the next day after it had already sold.
  21. What did you ever do? I am looking at getting a gun rechambered.
  22. You folks that keep on slow-time must be miserable, tons of great life in Knoxville and Chattanooga.
  23. That sucks man, S&W for about a decade has had major quality control issues, M&P's are no exception. I love the Shields though, it is worth the gamble on hoping you get a good one. My 40 Shield was flawless, if I had known there were 9mm barrels for $75 that dropped in I would have kept it. I just thought I wanted a 9 instead.
  24. That is supposed to be one of the best places to go period.
  25. A Crimson Trace Grip and another laser of some sort. You would have thought that I would have leaned my lesson the first time. No, lasers are about useless, both times I have been more accurate with the sights.
