Night stand guns caliber and capacity
Patton replied to Duck's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
It's a rare occurance that I leave a gun on the nightstand while I am away. Nine times out of ten my daily carry whatever is what sits on the nightstand while i am at home. -
I actually have a connection to both the victim and the shooter. Mr Westbrook had been really sick, he could no longer speak but had not shown any signs of aggression like a lot of dimenia patients do. I went to school with Hendrix, he was always polite and respectful, I never remember him trying to pick a fight or even getting into a fight. The last word I heard on Hendrix was years ago he fell sick and almost died in Iraq. Something very interesting in this case was a week prior the fiancé had a belligerent man(younger) beating down her door at the residence. The sheriffs dept arrived within 10minutes but the guy got away, the reason I was told Hendrix had been staying there was because the fiancé felt the man may come back. This is such a tragedy regardless but as a LEO I am not so sure I couldn't even be found in the same situation. One of the most dangerous calls I ever went to my light died right in the middle of the confrontation.

What will I need for reloading?
Patton replied to TripleDigitRide's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Let me throw in my 2 cents, 90% of what I reload is straight walled pistol cartridges and I have no desire to get rid of my single stage press. I know what a turret press is capable of and what a progressive press can produce, and enjoy my single stage. I have less than $300 in equipment and produce easily 70 rounds a hour(includes case seperation, cleaning, and lots of inspection). I jus feel my quality control is better with a single stage and it still feels like it is productive at 70 rounds a hour. I keep a lot of brass around, it makes life easier. If I only had 100-300 casings I probably would want a turret or progressive, otherwise I resize/decap every so often until they are all done. Then the next week or a month later I may bell the casings and reprime. Then after awhile(following week) I will calmly charge and seat bullets, something like 100 at a time which is what I normally shoot in one range visit. I sit down to charge and seat bullets a lot more than I do to do the other steps, resizing/depriming & belling/priming are normally several hundred at a time. I really want to get into casting, it is harder to jump into than reloading itself. -
Supposedly the same recoil spring 40 to 9. Other than the barrel and magazine all the parts are supposed to be the exact same. Even the slide has almost the exact same measurements and specs.

They are using 125gr 357sig GS.

Night stand guns caliber and capacity
Patton replied to Duck's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
My Glock 23 rides the nightstand, it has over 3000 perfect rounds through it without issue. I wouldn't mind switching to something else quiter in hopes of saving my hearing if fired numerous times inside the house. While I can't tell a difference between shooting 9/40/45 I think the 40 is louder w/ more flash. I once worried about an intruder having body armor but feel the continuous volley of fire will deter them out of the house if at least one round doesn't hit face, neck, groin, arm, or leg. -
Cast Boolits and Coffee grounds?
Patton replied to z0mbies fear me's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
How does this not raise the psi? Also, if I shoot an open case with a live primer in it at night there is enough ignition for some to be seen coming Ou the muzzle, how would there be enough space in any case? -
Everything mentioned already plus many old timers, my grandfather included, would tell me the grip safety would often stick. Remember, JMB excluded the grip safety from the 1911 but to sell the model he had to go back and include it. The 1911 was designed for a different crowd, while people liked autos there wasn't much trust, very few carried wit a round in the chamber. If you had to chamber a round is when you would activate the safety, otherwise the 1911 was designed for folks who carry hammer down on an open chamber.

(She's now safe at home) My 14-year-old daughter is missing
Patton replied to TripleDigitRide's topic in General Chat
I hate to sound negative and I hope this is just some game she is playing hiding somewhere, but often if a child has been taken it is by someone close. Anything peculiar with family, neighbors, or friends as of lately? Grandparents, older sibs, or another parent? I only ask because as a LEO once I found a missing teen with an older half sibling no one mentioned. -
I have read some reports of seperation and fragmenting during testings. Honestly, that doesn't scare me at all. The last I heard was that THP was using the Golden Sabers.

Here is what I can tell you in my experience as a traffic investigator. Those that are responsible drive responsible. Those that drive crazy, drive drunk, text and drive are the ones who are bankrupt, unemployed, and own nothing you can take. Not to mention they drive without insurance.

My friend has a theory that Nick Saban threw the game so he can leave for Texas for the sake of the team.
-
I am happy for you guys, it's amazing the lack of Florida fans compared to previous years.
-
Assuming he does not get indicted.
-
Yeah, had such a great record with field goals that game anyway. He is such a dumbass.
-
I love Bama but how has Nick Saban ever won a single game? I knew he was out of his mind that last second.

There were some S&W 4566 Tactical at GT's for $349 last week. They were rough Chattanooga PD trade ins. I looked back at this thread thinking it was a 5906 thread but it wasn't. A friend of mine that works for Honolulu Police Department called me today to wish me a happy Thanksgiving. After a few minutes of catching up he said they are getting Glocks, most likely G 17 Gen4's. HPD is going away from S&W after nearly 100 years of S&W use. While the SWAT has had Sig 226 in 40 for awhile the 20 year old 5906 will be fazed out after the first of the year. I almost went to work for HPD with a few friends when I got out of the Army many years ago, I remember the 5906's and would really like to have one of the old HPD guns. As big of a Glock fan as I am, it's almost sad to see the old 3rd gen Smiths go away. HPD was one of the last agencies still using them. They had S&W model 15 before the 5906 up until about 1993.

I was in a Sig course about 6 or 7 years ago and the factory represenative said DE State Police were the first to field the 357Sig round. I have always liked the pistol caliber carbines but ballistics aren't greatly impressive compared to a 6" gun in the same 9/40/357/45. Now 5.56 more than doubles from 6" to 16".

I picked up a new Shield in 9 and mine ate 115 grain fmj and hollow points about 30 of them just fine.

Rechamber a American Derringer M-7
Patton replied to Patton's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
I have decided to just leave it the way it is at least for now. While it may be capable of handling the 9mm pressure I don't really know if it worth any expense to do the modifications. It is actually a sweet gun the way it is, a slight hair bigger than a NAA mini mag and weighs abou the same. -
There are a lot of agencies in TN carrying 357Sigs, second only behind 40 S&W. A few Feds carry 357Sig; Secret Service, FAMs, IRS Agents, SSI Agents, Treasury, Capital Police, BIS, and possibly more.
-
The round itself, is ok. I have owned a couple of 357 Sigs. Honestly, it is only a hair faster and harder hitting than your average self defense round in +p 9mm. It will have less capacity in all scenarios unless you are talking about 10round Clinton mags, one of the reasons for 357Sig being appealing no longer applies. It is somewhat costly to shoot, but ammo isn't too hard to find. In the ammo shortage of 08 it was everywhere. A little less abundant in ammo shortage 12-13. If you reload it can save a lot and brass is abundant but the round is harder than most to reload. As far as shooting the 357sig, most say it is more 45acp like than 9 or 40. I personally can't tell a difference in any of the major 4 service calibers. Most every gun made in 357sig can go to 40 with only a barrel swap, and often 9mm too. Most everyone who gets a 357sig hopes to acquire a conversion barrel in 40 or 9mm, with that said the Glocks will convert the easiest and cheapest. There are not too many guns made in 357Sig, Glock 31,32,33 will be the most common. M&P's are no longer made in 357Sig but M&P's in general have continued to drop in sales. Sigs of course are common in 357sig. The Sig 239 is the only 357 that requires 40 mags to convert to 40, but 40 mags work with 357. The Keltecs are no longer made to convert to 357 sig. The Springfield XD's are pretty rare in 357 Sig.

No, Glock $425+ tax(Ga 7%)+transfer $35 = $480 You can drive to Knoxville, Craig's has less of a selection, $425+.9.25% tax + $10 TICS= $475
-
Only a few dealers will do GSSF pricing. GT's is the closest that I know of to us and Glocks will be $475ish OTD Gen3 and Gen4 G17/19/26 size frames. The 45/10 run about $550 GSSF pricing OTD.

It will not be a problem, he will be very pleased to have it.
