  1. To be perfectly fair to the department, to achieve a CALEA certification which would result In bragging rights, cheaper liability insurance, and a few extra things, the department needed to replace their 4 plus year old Glocks. However they could have gotten new Glocks which would have only cost about $100 each to upgrade each Glock for a new Glock. The majority of the officers really wanted the Sigs, it's been the chosen upgrade amongst a lot of departments in the state(Chattanooga PD, East Ridge PD).
  2. A friend up there tells me that about 30 or so of their swat guys got Sig 1911, they have been less than perfect but overall they are satisfied. They have had a few malfunctions and two of the guns have had to go back to Sig.
  3. I have not seen a whole lot of .380 ammo in the last year, not quite .22 mag rarity though. Before when I have brought it up people swore it was easily found.
  4. A 4" 686 is not bad with magnums and they aren't that hard to find(pricey, but worth it). It's not like you are stuck with magnums, .38 spl ammo would be mild.
  5. I shot one tonight, the trigger does feel a little stiff but I think it has to do with the small size making it feel that way. I could see a use for one, it is smaller than my Shield but it recoils more because of its small size. This one belongs to a friend, he says it has been perfect with various FMJ, LRN, and Federal HP, he tried some Hornady and all but 3 FTF.
  6. I have seen some 32acp lately, I still had my p32 when I found two boxes of Fiocchi 7.65 Browning for $13.99/50. I knew I would probably never take it to the range again but new I should grab both boxes anyway. I ended selling the p32 about two months later. Word of caution, Ruger does not recommend hot ammo out of the LCP. I have had the take down pin back out while firing some hot stuff.
  7. I foolishly have had three p32s and sold them thinking I liked a LCP more. The LCP just makes more sense, they were not intended to be fun to shoot.
  8. I understand, some of my wife's yoga pants don't conceal the Shield very well. If there were high capacity or even 10 round magazines for my Shield I would not hesitate to include it in a Bailout/SHTF kit.
  9. That is exactly what I thought, chainfire, the only thing is someone is not showing the rest of the exploded cases.
  10. I am a larger than average, but find the Shield extremely easy to pocket carry. It's marginally larger in a pocket than a j frame. I have done it a lot but I find a Glock 26/27 about the biggest gun to comfortably pocket carry, a slightly modified Glock Sport Combat holster really helps with safety and concealness in a pocket.
  11. I went from a Shield to a XDS and then back to a Shield. Size wise, they are almost the exact same. It seems like the XDS may be longer but shorter. I believe the shield in 9 and 40 both shoot smoother and faster. To be fair I have not shot a XDS 9. The Shield is definetly more bang for the buck at more than $100 savings. I just looked, the XDS is longer but shorter which is no biggie. However, I just realized that the XDS is 2oz heavier. I couldn't believe how how noticeable 2 oz actually was when I transitioned over between the two models.
  12. If I have learned one thing in life and as a police officer, mentally disturbed people are often fascinated by knives, swords and such. I am not saying people who collect them are off but those that are really like cutlery. They generally don't care anything about a firearm or are scared of them.
  13. While true, I feel bad that I brought that up. There is a news report coming out right now that someone in Florida has crashed into a daycare center. One known fatality, I hope it is not intentional.
  14. Thankfully this attacker was not aware of the dozens he could have killed by driving a large SUV through a school playground, sporting event, assembly, or bus stop.
  15. Not only that but adds weight to the holster to keep it in the pocket during a draw.

    stolen Beretta 92FSS

True, Georgia I have been told does not check serial numbers.
  17. I remember when the Korean mags were $9 each, they sold a lot of them then. Most of the others probably sold when threats of a ban were thought of.

    stolen Beretta 92FSS

I have harped on it a lot before but posting serial numbers and having a database do nothing to recover stolen items. I first heard the theory as a freshmen in college, I thought it was crazy. I realized it was true when I became an officer, friends would ask me to run a number and I would tell them that I had to keep it if it was stolen. They would say never mind. They wanted to know if it was stolen but didn't want to be out a gun if it was. Like mentioned before, it may very well be someone around you who knows you, let word get out that it was stolen but you did NOT know the serial number, I bet it will appear for sale. Otherwise, let someone know that it was recorded as a stolen serial number and it will disappear in a river or tucked deep into a sock drawer as a throw down gun. If it is in the hands of a gangbanger they wont care if it is stolen, it will eventually be found on a dead thug or during a pat down. If it is in the hands of a gun collector who finds out it was stolen it will be deep in a safe never seeing daylight, stripped for parts and each part sold on gunbroker, or carefully carried back in forth from the range. Very, very few people would be honest enough to come forward to the police if they found their new weapon was previously stolen.
  19. You most likely will find the Shield the worst then, XDS may be your ticket. As much as people dislike them, the Sig 250 is probably the most lefty friendly auto pistol.
  20. Really? $359 plus $35 FFL Compared to $379(best store price I have ever seen) plus tax $35 plus $ 10 TICS. Typically dealers are paying $360 for new Shields.
  21. I have a lot of pocket pistols, j frame size snubbies and a Shield is my favorite. I really appreciate the easiness of carrying 7 shots of .380 with the LCP. The Shield in 40 is the smoothest shooting small 40 I have ever shot, the Kahr is not. In fact, it is my option is that Kahrs have extreme recoil compared to similar sized handguns. Kahrs also have rough edges, it becomes apparent with daily handling and shooting. I am not a fan of single action triggers of the Sig 238. I had a XDS and it was ok, it has better lines than the Shield but I couldn't shoot it as well as the Shield. I have some coworkers who jumped on the Glock42, they like them but almost everyone has found a specific ammo that theirs does not like.
  22. I knew hey existed but have never scene one. They numbers do match right?
  23. In my officer days I found an enclosed hammer j frame my favorite bug. I always wanted a 6 shot 327 Federal Mag, s&w 632. I settled for a 642 or 640, sometimes a LCR but it was always a 38spl. I just always imagined while deploying a bug I would be in the perfect condition for a small auto to malfunction.
  24. Z90HD, you got lucky on that one, I bet it was stolen and not reported or stolen by a family member and traded for drugs. In which case family member( victim) do not want to call the police for fear of retaliation or trouble for family member(suspect). It is rare that his happens and likely not relative to your case, but it reminds me of a story a Chattanooga detective tells: This detective gets called and says go to xxx gunshop to retrieve a recovered stolen firearm. Gun store owner says the gun has been in and out of his shop several times over the last couple of years. He took it in and checked out clean, sold it and it checked out clean. Took it back in on trade, eventually resells the gun and it checks out stolen. Investigation reveled that the gun was stolen on the original sale. The victim had a time frame of the theft spanning more than two years, the gun was reported stolen within 30 days of the last inquiry.
  25. There is a lot of reports of weapon malfunctions while wearing a tactical light, even though 90% of the reports are Glocks in 40S&W. I would say that if you had 100 flawless rounds with the light on you may as well take it off to target practice every now and then. Weak magazine springs tend to be the biggest culprit.
