    stolen Beretta 92FSS

True, Georgia I have been told does not check serial numbers.
  2. I remember when the Korean mags were $9 each, they sold a lot of them then. Most of the others probably sold when threats of a ban were thought of.

    stolen Beretta 92FSS

I have harped on it a lot before but posting serial numbers and having a database do nothing to recover stolen items. I first heard the theory as a freshmen in college, I thought it was crazy. I realized it was true when I became an officer, friends would ask me to run a number and I would tell them that I had to keep it if it was stolen. They would say never mind. They wanted to know if it was stolen but didn't want to be out a gun if it was. Like mentioned before, it may very well be someone around you who knows you, let word get out that it was stolen but you did NOT know the serial number, I bet it will appear for sale. Otherwise, let someone know that it was recorded as a stolen serial number and it will disappear in a river or tucked deep into a sock drawer as a throw down gun. If it is in the hands of a gangbanger they wont care if it is stolen, it will eventually be found on a dead thug or during a pat down. If it is in the hands of a gun collector who finds out it was stolen it will be deep in a safe never seeing daylight, stripped for parts and each part sold on gunbroker, or carefully carried back in forth from the range. Very, very few people would be honest enough to come forward to the police if they found their new weapon was previously stolen.
  4. You most likely will find the Shield the worst then, XDS may be your ticket. As much as people dislike them, the Sig 250 is probably the most lefty friendly auto pistol.
  5. Really? $359 plus $35 FFL Compared to $379(best store price I have ever seen) plus tax $35 plus $ 10 TICS. Typically dealers are paying $360 for new Shields.
  6. I have a lot of pocket pistols, j frame size snubbies and a Shield is my favorite. I really appreciate the easiness of carrying 7 shots of .380 with the LCP. The Shield in 40 is the smoothest shooting small 40 I have ever shot, the Kahr is not. In fact, it is my option is that Kahrs have extreme recoil compared to similar sized handguns. Kahrs also have rough edges, it becomes apparent with daily handling and shooting. I am not a fan of single action triggers of the Sig 238. I had a XDS and it was ok, it has better lines than the Shield but I couldn't shoot it as well as the Shield. I have some coworkers who jumped on the Glock42, they like them but almost everyone has found a specific ammo that theirs does not like.
  7. I knew hey existed but have never scene one. They numbers do match right?
  8. In my officer days I found an enclosed hammer j frame my favorite bug. I always wanted a 6 shot 327 Federal Mag, s&w 632. I settled for a 642 or 640, sometimes a LCR but it was always a 38spl. I just always imagined while deploying a bug I would be in the perfect condition for a small auto to malfunction.
  9. Z90HD, you got lucky on that one, I bet it was stolen and not reported or stolen by a family member and traded for drugs. In which case family member( victim) do not want to call the police for fear of retaliation or trouble for family member(suspect). It is rare that his happens and likely not relative to your case, but it reminds me of a story a Chattanooga detective tells: This detective gets called and says go to xxx gunshop to retrieve a recovered stolen firearm. Gun store owner says the gun has been in and out of his shop several times over the last couple of years. He took it in and checked out clean, sold it and it checked out clean. Took it back in on trade, eventually resells the gun and it checks out stolen. Investigation reveled that the gun was stolen on the original sale. The victim had a time frame of the theft spanning more than two years, the gun was reported stolen within 30 days of the last inquiry.
  10. There is a lot of reports of weapon malfunctions while wearing a tactical light, even though 90% of the reports are Glocks in 40S&W. I would say that if you had 100 flawless rounds with the light on you may as well take it off to target practice every now and then. Weak magazine springs tend to be the biggest culprit.
  11. With today's .380 shortage I would consider a PT709.
  12. I have had issues with Taurus autos before, both were Milliminum models. It is a shame too because I really wanted to like them. My FIL has a Judge that has had light primer strikes but other than that it is an ok firearm. I am assuming that you work for an agency? Some don't allow less than six shots, some don't allow .380, and some only allow one specific model. Make sure your backup is an authorized weapon. Also remember your yearly qualification of fifty rounds and the cost and the pain involved with shooting fifty rounds in 5 minutes. I had two friends swear to never qualify with their small guns/big calibers ever again.
  13. I have experienced it in Super Duties, Dodge's and jeeps DW was way worse. It is like brass to the face, everyone knows it is happening, what fixes one doesn't fix another, some are fixed with tire balances, some with alignments, some with new tires, but some never get completely fixed.
  14. I have nothing good to say about a 6.0L, the 5.4 isn't too bad but the mileage sucks. In fact, some people claim to get better mileage out of the V-10.
  15. I have always been somewhat unimpressed with 1911's, they have all had a malfunction or something that I didn't like. I even experienced two FTF in 20 rounds in a Colt this week, I can't say much because my S&W revolver had just as many failures(bad primers/light strikes). It has became my opinion that 1911s are fine machines but not for non-gun people, it seems all of them require some tinkering at some point and have a somewhat difficulty manual of arms.
  16. I think I remember hearing that the dog was fine. Makes me remember a time that my wife and I took our 1 year old 80lbs Labrador to a park. The was a 4ft tall rock wall about 2 ft deep that patted my hand on for the dog to jump up on. Instead of the dog jumping on top of the wall he jumped over it, the other side was a 10ft drop. Thankfully he was wearing a harness and not a collar. I try to never put my dog on a strong leash, collar, or choker chain. There is too many chances he could get hung or pulled away by something.
  17. It has been a long time sense I say it done but some people have mounted safes to 1/4" thick steel plates, the bigger the better. The thought was if it is mounted to a plate large enough no one can pick the safe up without standing on the plate, nor get the plate out of the house while attached to a safe. You would want to use carriage bolts on the bottom to get the plate close to the floor and to prevent easy removal without opening the safe.
  18. One of my family members travels to a bunch of auctions, he called me two weeks ago and said that there was about 30 Glock 22 magazines up at a city auction. I told him not to put more than $15 a piece in them, he couldn't believe they would even be worth that. He said they went for $330, not too many people want to invest that kind of many into a stash of Glock mags. I bet they could have split them up and got more in small lots. He did score some cases of ammo in 9 and 40 that was a huge deal.
  19. I have seen more than one person with a suspended license from an unpaid "civil violation" photo enforcement violation that went unpaid.
  20. Finding powder will be the first trick, finding powder that will work wit all your desired calibers is even harder. I am partial to Power Pistol and Unique, both are widely universal. Others will say W231, aa5, Bullseye, Universal, Titegroup, AmericN Select, Herco, and 2400(debateable) all seem to be the most used. One of the only handgun powders I see regularly is PB(it's in a plain brown tub).
  21. Posting signs and making it less convenient with barbed wire fencing is about all that you can do. It is not unreasonable to believe that a honest person would want to visit a creek running through your property and others. I have lived on a property with a creek, property with a bluff, and property with a lake, it is par for the course being an access point. Until the police take their name and tell them in person that future trespassing will result in arrest they will not be able to do anything for you, even with the signs but they help confer your message.
  22. It is not fair to compare Pmags(an aftermarket company) to factory Glock magazines. What if you were buying Colt magazines? Some of the foreign Glock mags are cheap though. I would like to think that a lot of the money for magazines is going to the NRA and 2nd amendment fighting lobbiest. In general, magazines should be a lot cheaper product than what they are, a Pez dispenser is a spring loaded plastic sleeve that cost 1/20th of what the cheapest pistol magazine cost.
  23. I have loaded a few no primer/no charge cases to set up dies and to test feeding. I would not want them for drills though, have you thought about inserting weight inside the magazine springs? I do have the nickel plated cases with orange bullets, so close to actual weight it is hard to tell the difference.
  24. Will, they didn't make you pay $10 or even more? That is good to know.
  25. Cars and Firearms stay in NCIC until removed, others do need to be updated yearly. I used to think everything had to be updated also, I got clarification on it recently. Truthfully the problem occurs with honest people when they find that their most recent purchase may be stolen, it never sees the light of day again. I Will give you an example. Whenever I used to get called to run a number I wouldn't do it unless the gun was in front of me. When I told the person that I would have to keep the gun if it was stolen, they no longer wanted me to run the number. I even got into an arguement with someone over me keeping it if it were stolen. Rediculous that someone would want to keep a gun that belonged to someone else.
