You guys and your 640 no dashes make me sick! Do you know how many times a day I beat my head into the wall because I sold mine? Actually, I ditched the stainless j frames for stainless k frames, particularly matching 2" 64's. I was thinking that adding an extra round was well worth the extra 4oz. Hindsight I should have kept a 640 and only bought one 64.

I am a j and k frame fan, the only thing to keep in mind is that both the J and k frames should only digest a small amount of 357mag and preferably heavier than 140gr magnums. The J frames are actually a little stronger but still not bulletproof. Unfortunately L and N frames just don't do it for me but I would love a 3" S&W 610.

My "modified" 1911 magazines worked perfectly only if I installed a Kahr follower. I had a XDS a few months ago the recoil between the two is not comparable. The XDS was a lot of recoil that was a force but came somewhat slow, the Kahr was a slap and all at once. It reminds me of the so called 40 snap that people say they experience.

VOW is Volunteer Ordinance Works just North of Cleveland Speedway on Lee Hwy. Call Carman and see if she still has the 640. It was new and $599 which is actually a pretty good deal for a new one.

Fugates had a 640 last week and VOW had a 686 plus.

Oh, and I bought it one the theory I could use slightly modified 1911 magazines but I never could really get them to work 100%. They do not like Hornady ammo nor do they eat semi-wad cutters.

When Kahr dropped their prices a couple of years ago I picked one up for $375. It was my first Kahr, and I was not impressed but I did buy a cw380 a while later. The chamber on the CW45 was extremely tight not liking a lot of ammo and the gun was just not easy to handle because of sharp edges. The recoil was a lot, and this coming from a non recoil sensitive guy. However I do kind of wished I would have kept it.

While I enjoy shooting my 4" k frames, the versatility of a 3" can't be beat. A 2.5" 19 or 66 has never interested me much because of the adjustable sights, plus the 3" gives you a full length ejector rod. Ever seen a 2.5"(not a 2") Model 10? They are rare and very desirable. I loaded it up today even though I have not shot it and carried in a pocket, i always heard it could be done and wanted to prove so or not. It's possible, reminded me of carrying a Sig239 I had for awhile. If one considers the 3"sp101 pocketable I guess the 3" 65 could be as well. It's a true waistband gun.

I use either a 1957 or a 1960 Gillette Fatboy with quality blades. I shave my face about every day and my head about once a week.

I lived in Hawaii for 5 years, I miss it so much and plan to return to vacation before to long. While visiting Hawaii and not seeing Pearl Harbor should be a sin, I would encourage you to visit the Big Island or Maui. Oahu really is a large island on a tiny island. I miss the weather, the laid back mentality, the beaches, the surfing and mountain biking, and especially the food. If you have any questions specifically please pm me, I really enjoy talking about Hawaii.

It would have been hard to have not bought more than one but they only had one.

If I could change one thing about it I would have it as pinned and recessed but truthfully it doesn't do anything but add appeal.

No Dept markings, I actually wished that it did. I am weird like that.

Good things come to those who ask their wife nicely. I found and bought my dream gun today. A s&w 65-3 3" .357 mag, quite possibly the most utilitarian , practical handgun ever made. They were common on the used market about 10 years ago but then they dried up to where they do not hardly exist. The best part was I bought it at 10 years ago pricing. It was a Puerto Rican Police Trade in. I have all these 4" and 2" revolvers now that I do not have a use for because I have a 3" k frame.

I don't want to give the company's name away but my wife's former employer would only hire home schooled graduates if they had attended college afterwards. I do not remember if they actually had to have a degree though. This was at one time one if the most desired companies in the country. My wife sat in on an interview of a potential hire who she said was fantastic, quite an intellectual person. My wife did not find out until after the interview that the person did not get considered solely because of their home schooled education.

I do not see an issue with it.

You should be able to find some premium self defense .380 by hitting a few shops. The Hornady Critical Defense is ok, it is the only hollow points I have ever tried in my LCP and appears to be pretty easily found. Nothing against .380 but I wouldn't hesitate to carry reliable fmj until I found some hollow points. If you can't make a wide cavity in a threat you should be able to make a deep on with the fmj.

Having owned both, I don't know that the 40 actually recoils more. Cheaper ammo, yeah sometimes. Obviously one less round, I used to believe any caliber was fine because anything worth shooting once was worth shooting twice. However I continue to hear story after story about weak grips during self defense shootings where one round is all that you get before a malfunction. I would choose whichever Shield you find the best deal on, cheaper than $400 used or cheaper than $425 new OTD.
-
Yes, you gain a round with the 9mm. Here is the way I see it, you do gain about 10%momentum with the .40 but you loose more than 15% capacity.
-
Having owned both 9 and 40 Shields, there really isn't a whole lot of difference in the handling. I may still prefer the Shield in 9 but that has a whole lot to do with my preferring Glocks in 40. I can have all my Glocks as 40 but still have a gun chambered in 9mm. There are few claims out that the Shield .40 may not be up to the higher pressure, supposedly one or two out of several thousand blow apart. This does not worry me and I would own another .40 Shield in a heartbeat. It does appear that .40 magazines for Shields are easier to acquire.

It's really no different than killing any pest out of season as long as you are on your own property. You can kill dear on your own property without a license, you are supposed to check bucks though, right?
-
Until just a couple of years ago I would have said there is no such creature, but the Shield comes close! This is coming from a lifelong Glock and j frame fan.
-
The only reason that law was enacted was because people used to kill all snakes believing they were all venomous. It was only an attempt to save as many non venomous as they could from shovels.
-
I tend to pocket carry or OWB carry a Shield 90% of the time, the rest of the time it is a revolver. Before the Shields I carried mostly Glocks. I never could do the IWB holsters all day everyday.

Those wooden magmas on j frames are sexy but don't do a lot for recoil. I will agree on everything, recoil is weird. A pf9 may be the worst recoiling handgun I have ever shot, a shield may be the lightest in 9mm without getting super big. The LCR may recoil less than an airweight come to think of it.
