I have no need for it but it took all I had to walk away from a S&W 686 3" today at GT's for less than $500.
-
I find them very easy to pocket carry. Loaded it probably will not feel any different than your 640, but you will be gaining at least one round. I will say that the .45 version may not be for the recoil sensitive. I have not been able to shoot a XDS 9 yet so I can't comment.
-
Yes, I do! If I am not mistaken John Moses Browning did not want the 1911 to have a grip safety. While in the police academy and a couple of the training events I have been to I have seen XD(M) malfunction because they will not run dry. Soak them with oil and run again.

I have had one XD and it was ok. I just shoot Glocks better. I could also stand to live without the grip safety. I do like how the 9mm XD's hold manically hold so many rounds. The XD 45 is somewhat thinner and easier to carry over a Glock 21. I also had a XDS 45 but I just like the Shield so much better. The XDS carries like a small gun and shoots like one. The Shield just shoots like a fullsize.

If I didn't reload 40 and wasn't sitting on a ton of brass I would buy some. I do regret not picking up some of the strange bulk Israeli 40 ammo that was like $12/100 a few years ago. Even if I had to pull them it would have been worth it.

Seeking legal opinions for HCP app - dismissed charges

Congrats, take the advice from someone who has owned a CBST holster and buy an Alien Holster for a lot less money. -
Actually, that is true. I have probably seen less .38 Spl than .380 over the last 6 months.
-
I don't see a lot of it but I do find it occasionally. Sportsmans, Academy and GT's is where I see the majority of it. I reloaded up 1k .380 and traded away my dies. My wife shoots a LCP but we have just about ran down he stash. I should have done more.

Either a Sig or a Springfield.

My Labrador is scared to death of water.

Why have you not bought it yet?

Yes, $400 is fair for one that is like new. I would go so far as to say $350 would be a steal.

M&P Shield will be released with no thumb safety
Patton replied to maroonandwhite's topic in Handguns
It's not easily removed like the other M&P's, the safety actually carries the sear assembly. ass -
Thanks, I looked for and never found a S&W LEO dealer. I was told that S&W was trying to do all of their own LE sales. I wonder how much shipping would be on one of the Shields? Actually, these guys are not true Blue Label LE distributors but I think what they call Blue Label Dealers. This is why the Glocks are $425 instead of $398. Blue Label Shields are $309 for Law Enforcement if you can find a distributor.

If a Carfax report indicates something occurred it most likely did, but I have seen a vehicle involved in a fatality have a clean Carfax report.

If he is at a department that gives him .40 ammo why would he want a 9mm. If it were me I would buy a Shield because they can be found for less than $410 OTD now. When he gets hired or is in the Academy he can get a new Glock for as cheap as $430 OTD(Blue label plus tax, no TICS fee for LE).

Nothing wrong with a G19 but why not go with a G23 if you are wanting to be a police officer? We don't have a single LE agency in Tennessee using 9mm. There are only a few agencies in TN that will allow you to carry a 9mm. Some do not even allow 9mm off duty or for a BUG. Several departments around here will give you as much 40 ammo as you want. A friend trades his .40 ammo for .45 ammo with a neighboring county officer who gets .45 ammo. He has to buy his own 9mm ammo since the only way he can get rid of the .40 ammo is to trade with another officer. If you went somewhere using .357 Sig (very likely in TN) you can just drop in a barrel. The only 9mm I own is a Shield(other than one of my grandpa's guns). In law enforcement around here it just doesn't pay to own a 9mm like it does a more common service caliber like 40/357/45 in TN. In fact I can buy .40 cheaper through law enforcement supply channels than 9mm there or at Walmart. If you did have to buy any of your own service caliber it will be a tax deduction if you itemize.

Excellent choice. I sold my Gen4 23 to a good friend, it had over 1000 perfect rounds through it and was probably the most accurate Glock I have ever shot. As well I think any extra recoil is negligible.

I always keep money set to the side just in case my Holy Grail gun falls in my lap(EG: 3" S&W 610)

Well, you can not go wrong with a Shield in either 9 or 40. In fact I believe they shoot every bit as well as a compact Glock. It will make a great backup and off duty gun. While most departments issue duty weapons it is very wise to have an extra duty weapon. Besides the best way to get hired is to already be POST certified and you will end up having to use your own weapon in the academy before you get hired. If you switch departments you can carry that extra, personally owned duty weapon with you that you are qualified on and start work quicker. Some smaller departments it may take them a month or more to get you qualified on their weapon. You also never know when your agency weapon may need to go in for service or in worst case scenario get taken or stolen(I have seen this happen too often). I would buy the Shield and keep some money set aside to buy a duplicate to my duty weapon or something similar to serve as. A duty weapon(a compact version of issued dug weapon).
-
In my opinion M&P's are fine weapons and I would have no concerns about utilizing one for a duty weapon. The only thing to consider is building a holster collection, mag collection(you will need 5 for the academy), and the difficulty of becoming familiar with more than one weapon platform. You will notice that Glocks are used a duty weapons among about 60% of agencies in TN. Sigs are used by about 20% of them and M&P's are probably about 5%. Where do you want to work? We will try to find out their duty weapon. PM me if you do not want everyone to know.

I would sa the majority of applicants have HCP and no I don't think they look negatively towards them. The chances of you going to a department in TN using a 40S&W Glock is so great you would be wise to get a Glock 22 or 23 in 40S&W. Take my word that it is smart to have an extra gun similar to your department gun. Not to mention the fact that you will probably be given a crap load of department ammo and mags. If you go to a small department or put yourself through a police academy you will use your own weapon for duty. You will be one of only a handful using a Glock in 9mm in the entire state.
-
You will appreciate the plentiful holsters and mags for the Glocks but the Shield shoots just as well and carries easier.

Probably around 400 pieces to be worth a box of 50 target rounds.
