  1. Sweet, I like the 442's better than the 642's anyway. If or when they start to show wear they look cleaner. How about some pictures?
  2. The factory 9mm Shield barrels are the same OD as the .40 barrels and the extractor is the same model number. The tail on the barrel is the only size difference on the barrel beside the chamber and ID. It is not a big deal on the tail as it only locks it up into battery. If I had a factory 9mm Shield barrel I would feel comfortable after a few hundred rounds to be used as SD. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=flnFIzI6MIw
  3. Smith was selling them for $70 but then stopped for whatever reason. I have not seen any for sale since. I can not tell much of a difference in the 9 and the 40 as long as the 180 grain was being shot in the .40.
  4. You can not go wrong with either caliber. Initially you could buy 9mm barrels to drop in the .40's but S&W stopped selling them. I bet the aftermarket will respond soon with 9mm barrels for them if you really want a 9mm. For now enjoy the large availability of .40S &W ammo.
  5. Is the 547 a 3" or a 4"?
  6. I am curious how the new 9mm revolver(986&929) will be in the long run. Everyone says that about the 940's , and bent moonclips as well as weak primer strikes are issues. The 547 is just unique in a weird way.
  7. The 547 is the unicorn of S&W's. I am guessing that it is a 3"? The 4" are actually less common.
  8. If you can shoot full power 357 magnum loads in a 640 then you will be able to shoot the 642 without complaints.
  9. The downside to the airweights is the recoil; while it is almost half the weight of your 640 it has what feels like twice the recoil comparing 38's to 38's. I shoot an all steel j frame wit twice the accuracy of an airweight. Airweights also tend to have finishes that less than superb after a little carry. For me though ankle carry is not very smart since I am not flexible and have back trouble. Sitting is about the only time I can deploy an ankle carried firearm effectively. There are a lot of baby Glocks being carried on ankles that weigh more than our 640's. I have completed cleaned my collection of airweights but I still find myself trying to acquire another one. I do have an early 70's Charter Arms Undercover(15oz) that feels that void. Dimensionally that Undercover is a hair smaller as well. Mine was about $250 but I have seen them for as little as $200 recently. Do not sell your 640 because it is not easily replaceable, an instant classic, and twice the shooter with magnum versatility.
  10. Since it was the HWY Patrol what I was sharing is irrelevant now. It is an officers discretion to arrest or not. Even for the most minor TCA codes a ticket is issued in leu of arrest anyway. What I was saying as a city officer was our city judge could not issue a warrant for FTA and could only send paperwork into the state to revoke a license.
  11. I would say you do not have to worry for a few days. Was it a city officer? If so I have never witnessed a city judge in TN issue a warrant for failure to appear but rather revoke a license. A revoked (for FTA) is generally a ticket and call a ride to pick you and your vehicle. The county magistrate issues the warrants when you FTA for their court. I still think that a week is too soon for that to happen though. One other thing; Several times in the past I have went to court as an officer and the accused party did not show. When the judge and I discussed the person, the offense, and even the time period from which a ticket had been issued; we would hold off on issuing a warrant or revoking a license if there were any doubts.
  12. Was this issued by a deputy or by a city officer? You need to call the court house and just explain and make sure you tell them that you did pay it. In all likely hood it will be forgiven. In my city people that did not pay or show for court we could only file the paperwork to revoke a license. The sessions court judge could issue a bench warrant when the offender refused to show when tickets were issued by a deputy.

A S&W 632 in 327 Federal Mag would be the perfect gun for you since you are talking about reloading .32 calibers.

I have a 2001 S&W revolver that does not have the serial number on the butt but below the cylinder window.
  15. I have heard before gun shops saying that when they opened a "new" Taurus, it appeared to have been shot more than one or two times.
  16. There may be one exception to that rule; If the second FFL were to go out of business I believe the serial numbers would get cataloged somehow.
  17. I'm actually surprised that we have not had this happen with 10mm also.
  18. Do not throw them out because you never know when you will need them. I would probably just store them or load them and use them places that I cant pickup my brass. This is one of the reasons that I really wish that I could find a .45 acp to like so that I can use a larger assortment of primers. I first saw spp 45acp about two years ago and appears they are becoming more common.
  19. I have wanted one for a long time.

As far as barrel lengths and pricing I think the 2" and 4" may be a little desirable. It seems like most of the 30's have been 3".
  21. Not really, as huge of a S&W fan as I am they have been pulling some stunts pissing off dealers especially LE firearm dealers. They were doing stuff like selling directly to agencies cheaper than what the LE dealers could. They were also continuously dropping their prices and dealers were getting stuck being upside down in their S&W inventory. The correct way to do that would have been to send out rebates so dealers could drop their inventory before the cheaper models came out. I hear Shields are less than $300 to dealers now and some are stuck with some the paid $350 to get to their door.
  22. No lock and somewhat rough condition. It could have been a 2" but I really think it was a 3". Honestly they brought a whole container of S&W jewels back from Puerto Rico. Mostly all are 38 or 357 w/ 2-4" barrels.
  23. I have never heard of them. My grandfather worked off and on for ADT over about 35 years. He washed his hands of them in the mid 90's because of their trickery and dishonesty. I hear it is even worse now. It is all about your money and nothing else. I had a bad experience with a locally owned company here in Chattanooga and it was one I had been recommended by a family member because they were friends of the family. After five years of service, and rather than complain, I just paid them all that I owed and called DRALARMS. So far I have been very happy with Surveillence Systems. I am very happy now and I made a $4 purchase of a solar powered pathway light at Target. This is what I made:

I have a friend who sold that exact Smith on gunbroker for $650 about a year ago. I told him to put it on there to get the maximium amount possible. His had never been shot. For $50 you can get a detailed letter from Roy Jinks the S&W historian. This one has diamond grips and a flat latch which dates it in the late 50's without looking up the number. The H&R really isn't worth that much maybe $150.
