    Ruger LCR 9mm

You shouldn't need moonclips to shoot but you will need them to eject cartridges without using a foreign object; supposedly you can use the rim of another cartridge to pop them loose. The 9mm also bridges the gap between performance of a 38spl and a .357mag in a comfortable, plentiful, and affordable round.
  2. I would say that you made the very best choice possible. Are you comfortable with the recoil it has?
  3. I believe it is limited to the Super Red Hawk and the New Model Black Hawk; they are thicker in the top strap. They kind of inherited this from 45lc and 454 models. True Ruger only loads "officially" apply only to 45lc loads.
  4. Like a coin that will lock it up; the shroud is a funnel for moisture too.
  5. I have quite a few small revolvers and I would pick the Smiths over them all. My LCR has a decent trigger but I have been known to short stroke it a lot. The Smith also has a much better aftermarket following for speed loaders, holsters, and grips. While the airweights and the LCRs carry well they have a heavy recoil. A 20oz model 36/40/49/640/60/639 carries without much more effort and will shoot circles around the airweights. I also don't care for shrouded hammers but that is my personal preference; it takes the worst factor of the chief special and the worst factor of the centennial model and combines them to the bodyguards. After researching for years I bought an old Charter Arms because they are slightly smaller than a j frame and their 16oz weight is a nice compromise between an airweight and a 20oz steel revolver.
  6. Tricky, the Ruger 44mags are built stronger than the Smiths, but the sp's and gp's are not necessarily any stronger in the frames. The cylinders are all forged though.
  7. No, I skimmed through the legal jargon, but can't find it. I was cited in 2000; I lived in TN but drove through GA almost everyday with a small trailer. I got cited while empty so he had no reason to believe that it was for commercial use. When I went to court at the Catoosa County Court House I was not fined because I got it registered in TN. The lady at the Marion County clerks office said that I did in fact need plates if I was going into Georgia. The judge in Ga was really cool and explained that really anything outside of farm use without springs would require tags. All assuming that my home state would issue plates on it.
  8. I am a huge fan of the Safariland ALS over the Serpa for its strength, not using a trigger finger to break retention, and because it cost less.
  9. A front license plate and trailer registration is two different scenarios. I know we are talking about NC, but Georgia requires a trailer to have a license plate if one is obtainable from your state. If you lived in some state where they did not issue trailer plates for your application then you would be legal. However, I have heard of one state that you would have to tag the trailer in their state if you can not obtain plates in your home state(I think it was PA).
  10. The FBI has been buying RA9T for many years for those with the 9mm. That article is really the same as the others previously posted. For what it is worth, agents know nothing of plans to switch platforms or calibers; they do say that they will be switching to a lead-free ammunition soon. Talk of solid copper core with lead platings is what they say.
  11. It's actually hard to say if a GP100 is actually stronger. Rugers are thicker and heavier because they are cast stainless where a S&W is forged stainless. I am not knocking the Ruger,, but it is bigger and heavier for a reason.
  12. Yes, you will need a trailer tag for NC.
  13. I wonder if the dealer failed to use the social during the check.
  14. STOP IT! I don't have one of those and I NEED one. I do have a full lug barreled .357 though.
  15. I am partial to S&W but there are several other brands worth owning. IMO, 22lr/22mag and 38/357 are the most practical to start with for many reasons. If I could own only one revolver it would be a S&W 65 in the 3" flavoring.
  16. Chickamauga is a neat little community with some very good schools, but it's tricky to find out which area will be zoned for Gordon Lee which is a great school. There is an extra cost involved but it is only like $700 per year for tuition and totolly worth it. Heritage High School is in Ringgold and one of the best schools around Chattanooga. Ringgold High School itself is not bad; I had a brother who graduated from there five years ago. Ringgold is a great community. Most any school in Georgia will be better than the average TN school. It does cost a little more to live in GA because of state income tax and a tax on car registration. The advantage is a home that is $200k in Tennessee will only cost you 20% less in Nort Georgia.
  17. Signal and and even Lookout are great communities but extremely pricey. Commuting and vehicle maintenance really add to the cost of living there. I have heard but not confirmed that if you live on Signal you have to pay for your children to attend their schools otherwise they will attend in the valley. I heard it was in the neighborhood of $3k a year per student. If I had three children and was definitely send them to public schools, I would not eliminate the North Georgia area. You will pay a state income tax but some of the schools there are equivalent to some private schools.
  18. I love me some Goldens. I have had Labradors all my life and everyone has been completely different. All were very loyal, smart, great with kids, and had some the meanest barks imaginable. The only female had to go live with my dad in the country because she would bite any adult stranger. My current black lab suffers separation anxiety and hoards any shoes or clothes left out to his bed but does not chew on them. He growls and foams out the month when I say "WHAT". I think he would bite but it may take a lot.
  19. Pretty much every teacher that was at Ooltewah during the hay day is at Soddy or East Hamilton now.
  20. I have never really had a problem with keeping a hat on in a Jeep or boat.
  21. Excuse me, ASR blades. Stupid autocorrect!
  22. I used Nair in my younger days but it is not worth the effort, stings a little , and just cost money. I just use a 1957 or 1960 Gillette Fatboy wit ACR blades about every 5 days.
  23. I am in East Brainerd, about 5 minutes away from Ooltewah. My wife was born and raised in the Owls Nest(Ooltewah). The good is that it is really convenient, the schools are probably above average, shopping and dining is great. The bad is the traffic can be heavy because they never upgraded the roads and it has gotten to the point that when they do it will be a nightmare because they waited too long. Also, you are a stones throw from Volkswagen; everyone that works there is wanting a place in Ooltewah/Collegedale and are overpaying. I don't know that the desire to live there will necessarily continue and home values may go stale; I suspect tha they already have. What is your budget for a home? Only some of Ooltewah has Fiber Optic. East Hamilton is the high/middle schools that you want and not Ooltewah. Ooltewah high/middle used to be great but no longer. Stay away from the Tyner area. IMHO, the best kept secret in desirable and ultra affordable homes is the Falling Water/Soddy/Lakesite areas. As someone else mentioned, Apison is a great area.
  24. I think most handlers would prefer a Shepard over the Belgium Mallinois but from all the reports I am hearing the Mallinois will give you several more years of good health and service. Or is the just false information?
  25. I sold a friend's 2004 production s&w 1911 when he was hard for cash and I wish that I would have bought it instead. I read many reports then and since that the finish is the only downfall. The Citadel's are pretty much rebadged RIA the best I can tell.
