When I was in college the first time, the machine shop classes were constantly looking for projects of this type. I would not have a clue on how to approach them anymore.

Investing in a 529 plan, and even paying 10% and taxes to withdraw for something other than college, would probably be the equivalents of continuously cashing in on matured 5 year CDs over the years. Assuming that you could even start a CD with $250, and it would be a 2% APY at most anyway. I don't know your family's financial situation, but for the average family in Tennessee $250 is getting to be a noticeable amount of money. I hope that you do not have a revolving credit card balance, high interest loans, or even a loan with an interest rate over say 4%. If I were you, and I trusted myself and my wife, I would just take the guys $250 and spend it frugally. I would in turn bump up my 401k contribution say a percent, and just give him a minimum of $1000 in 15years, 20 years, or whenever you hear him hint at a worthwhile need for it. Understand though that he will be asking for or need the money before you most likely are eligible to draw without penalties; unless you are over 40 now.

Yes, but what better incentive to go to school than being able to immediately cash in on it.

Lead, pure lead. I am serious as can be. Buy it and stuff it under the house for 20 years. My wife is a banker and $200 is not enough to do anything with unless you are going to contribute that much or more every year. In fact, I don't think you have enough to start a 529 plan. Otherwise a 529 would be about the best option, but if inflation continues it will be equivalent to nothing. If not a 529 then CDs, but I almost guarantee you it will only appreciate slightly above the the rate of inflation. Apparently all you need in Tennessee is a $25 contribution to start a 529 plan, but this is not liquid. He will only be able to use it for post education type activities or it can be tranfered.

Yes, Taking Chance was a wonderful movie.

Until they get smart enough to use a two ton car. Can you imagine how many more people they can kill by plowing down the sidewalk, a play ground, or the ticket line outside a theater?

I read that his ammo was manufactured, but I do not remember where. Black Hill Match is what I want to say, but I cannot say for sure.

I own fewer Glocks right now than I have owned in five years. I will acquire a model 40 in the next year most likely. Otherwise, I have found I like my Shield the more I shoot it and even more after shooting other guns. I just wish the other M&Ps were as similar to the Shield, especially the triggers. I finally shot a PM9 today and liked it better than I thought that I would. I also shot a LC9S today, but liked it less than I thought I would. I can't say that I would even bite on a ss9 Glock after finding the Shield such a fine machine.

A friend of mine said she left because she couldn't keep her composure. She said it was pouring salt on old wounds.

Unless we know the same guy named Will, I know someone who did that also.

I always go to church armed. Would you like to guess how many millions of people have died just because they were Christians, Jews, or what have you?

Seriously, tell her about it and let her know that the posting is to blame for this. It is my professional option as a police officer that businesses posting are creating problems.

I have three adult cats around 12 years of age and a labrador that is 6 years old; all of them are fixed and live inside. As crazy as this sounds, I really wish that my male cat had not be fixed because I would love to have one of his offspring. Sometimes you just get a special animal that you know that you could never replace, but having one of their offspring may be the closest you could ever get. That is just another little something to think about.
-
I have never thought about it, but there are some things mentioned here that hit home. My current lab is the first male I have ever had snipped. The females always got fixed though. My lab is the only one out six that has had weight issues and that does not like to retrieve. He is also the only lab I have ever known that is scared sh****** of swimming.

I am buying a Shield, who has the best price?
Patton replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in Handguns
Smokey Mountain Knife Works next door actually had Shields cheaper than Buds before Christmas. They were $339 if my memory serves me correctly. I have been told that someone in Nashville is a S&W LE dealer which would make Shields $299. -
All these people like to push the fact that guys like Jim Cirillo won countless gun fights with revolvers up against guys with long guns. Cirillo pretty much defined New York reload; he would transition to a second or third gun when the previous one went dry. He would simply turn loose of the empty gun, letting it fall to the ground.
-
Is that a typo? I can reload loose rounds from my pocket in less time than that. I can do 12 shots from a model 10 in 15 seconds. However, an emergency Glock reload is only seconds.
-
Yeah, no doubt that you can reload a semi-faster than a revolver. There are a few people in the world than can do a one or two second revolver reload. I am pretty quick but I can still reload magazines quicker than dumping a speedloader. However, if it comes down to having to reload a handgun from a box of ammo the revolver is pretty quick. It takes some time to reload 13 to 17 rounds over and over in a magazine if you just had one.
-
If a semi fails to ignite a round on the first try, then tap-rank-ready. You have a very slim chance it will go on the second try.
-
I will tell you though, if a semiauto is going to fail you it will be in a high stress, poor grip situation. The saying common with cops during the revolver to semiauto transition time was that "a revolver is six shots for sure." I carry a revolver because I trust them to work more reliably in adverse conditions, in a jacket pocket, or while jammed into an assailant. I have not carried a full size auto or even a compact auto for some time now. I went back to a Shield for various reasons, but I have recently went just straight j or k frame. I can just draw them and engage a target faster than with the Shield. This is mainly because I pocket carry so frequently. I feel that I can do an emergency reload pretty quickly, I practice very frequently, but I don't really feel that it is that crucial. I have actually had some very formal revolver training; I went through the only police academy around that made everyone shoot a revolver after qualifying with an auto.

In my life I have spent a lot of time driving and using tractors owned by other people. As far as stuff made sense 1990 and on, Kubotas have always impressed me. My family owned a Bobcat and I thought it was a great machine; it gave us very little trouble. The New Holland and Case stuff was nowhere near te machines as my Bobcat I don't know anything about Bobcat tractors though. We had a family friend that sold Yanmar tractors and spoke well of them. I just can't recommend a Deere after using a few of them.

If you have an alarm do not use a key fob to disable it before entering your home. Enter your home, lock the door behind you, and then do a quick scan to ensure everything looks in order. I have heard more than one story over the years of a person, it's not always women, that get approached and pushed into their home/buisness by an assailant. If this happens you will have a silent distress code that will silence your alarm and alert the police that you are under distress.
