  1. There are cops in this state that actually carry on duty 1911's with a hammer down; it would never sit well with me.
  2. Yeah, they say that, but a lot is at risk when a foreign object can enter the trigger guard. I have never had a negligent or accidental discharge with a firearm, but I was doing some training when a fellow officer tried to disarm me and we heard the CLICK. It's not unheard of for a drawstring, thumb strap, or someone else's finger to pull a trigger. It has been on my mind a lot in the dozen or so times a day I will holster.
  3. I think the locked and cocked preference has to do with many 1911s not being drop safe with the hammer down. What is the trigger pull of most 1911s? I am guessing considerably lighter than most striker or Da.
  4. This may be the store managers choice or even their managers choice. A store manager I knew told me that it was up to her if they even sold or ordered ammo, and if kept causing issues she would not order any.
  5. I urge you to not shoot any magnum loads light than say 140 gr through your k frame, but if that one were mine I would not hesitate to shoot it. Actually, at less than 1200fps you are probably ok with any weight bullet.
  6. My boys taking a rest.
  7. He said it was a .38 special. I am inclined to believe he has a pre model 10. If he has a model 45, 22lr. He needs to reconsider selling it. The last model 45 I was following sold for nearly $3000. It takes a lot of control to not sell everything I own for these: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=471213698
  8. I believe that two weeks ago today Sportsmans was overflowing with handgun powder to include 8lbs jugs of Bullseye. I did buy a 3lbs jug of Power Pistol.
  9. There was never a Tacoma with a 22re. PreTacomas had the 22re and the 3.0 V-6. Tacomas started with a 2.4l, 2.7l, and a 3.4l.
  10. It is not unheard of to see breakage in that area of the slide.
  11. You will most likely get wore out primer pockets before case swells weaken the brass with 9mm. My 2nd gen 17 has about as weak case support as a newer Glock in 40S&W. I still don't worry with it.
  12. Congratulations to her on achieving such honors. My advice to anyone heading off to an academy is to train like you are trying to become a Navy Seal. Donelson, the community colleges, and the few city/county academies are no where near as hard as Seal training or even military basic training. However, the academy is not the place to get into shape. Go there in the best physical shape so you can focus on academics and be able to put the worries of PT behind you.
  13. I have heard more than one mechanic say that. The new 2.7 is also a good engine.
  14. Just a thought, but you can generally find people who will swap you a .40 barrel for their .357 barrel
  15. A friend of mine had a Big boat in Hawaii and his Tahoe crapped while towing it back home. He called and asked if I could take his boat home from the side of the road. I at first said that I couldn't. He said, "I know you don't have a hitch so I'll buy you one." I then said yes. I retrieved him and the boat. A six mile trip up a slight hill and then level the last few miles. He said he couldn't believe how well a six cylinder pulled his boat. I had to break it to him that my little 2003 was a 2.7l. 4 cylinder. He said his boat was every bit of 5,000 lbs. I said, "Well it is fine for just one trip". Then he shared to me that his trailer was about 1800lbs. The truck did fine, but no way would I do it again.
  16. I can contest to the durability of the Hilux from being overseas. Growing up my dad had a 95 Tacoma with the near indestructible 2.7. That truck saw more work than most one ton domestic trucks. It eventually got totaled by another Tacoma. I just recently sold my 2013 Tacoma prerunner. While bigger, I just didn't think it was as well built as the first generation Tacomas or pickups.
  17. I have four different styles of magazines: those without a number, some with a "1", some with a "2", and I have one magazine that has a cursive style "2". None of my 9mm magazines have numbers at all. The numbers are explained here: http://www.glockforum.com/forum/f8/mag-number-3510/
  18. As far as I know only 15 round .40 magazines had the weak springs. If you added an extension to a G17 mag you may experience the same phenomonem. I have about dozen 23 and 22 magazines from police surplus. I will look to see which ones are marked and which are not.
  19. They are nice on a round butt, but require larger hands for comfort in the square butt models.
  20. You are little more restricted with the square butt. I normally use the old Pachmyer Gripper grips on a square butt model. If you can find them though the Uncle Mike's square butt, K-frame boot grips are probably the best all around for a carry square butt model. Assuming those the Targets came with that gun, that Smith is worth 50-100 bucks more with those grips. http://files.harrispublications.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/8/2011/11/uncle-mikee28099s-square-butt-rubber-grips.jpg
  21. I will just leave this here for all to see.
  22. I have seen a car that people died in come back with a clean carfax. I totally forgot earlier that my wife filed a police report on someone hitting her car and fleeing. We did not report it to our insurance company and we did not get the car fixed. It showed up on a carfax though. So in fact, in Tennessee at least , it does have the possibility of showing up on carfax just from a police report.
  23. You mean like Glocks made during the before seven years ago?
  24. S&w has refinished a few for people over the years without charge, and some they have charged. You can hire someone to cerakot, but a friend of mine has a 637 that has been stripped and polished. It really looks good. I will see if I can get him to post pictures soon.
  25. Yeah, I would say it is a $550 gun. Add another 25-50 for the original box.
