You pay the Georgia sales tax. The tax and transfer on a gun $397 is right at $50. So if you buy a gun that is $400 at GT's you actually save from buying it in TN for $400.

As Trekbike said, 750fps is about the minimum for 180gr but I don't think you even need to go that low. I haven't loaded any in a while but I seem to recall 5.5 gr of Power Pistol functioning without issues and having no recoil. I didn't chrono them but it was supposed to be 800fps.

Interesting, I wonder how hot of 45lc ammo it can handle. I really wish S&W would make a 45lc/45acp kind of like that; a Governor with a short cylinder. Well, discussions about the 45lc only version discuss them handling Ruger only loads.

I sold my XDS with 5 mags and had just enough to buy the Shield w/ 2 mags. I prefer the Shield, and I am a Glock guy.

Home Defense Shotgun - What is your take
Patton replied to Pete123's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
The probability of one wearing body armor is greater than you may think. If they can get it, they will wear it. Trust me, it is not hard to get. I am not worried about a shotgun with 00 stoping them with armor on though. -
They show the model 57 still in production but I do not know if it is available anywhere.

I carry a snubnose revolver because.....
Patton replied to FortKnox's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Unfortunately, bullets jumping crimp and bullet setback are a concern with powerful rounds and light revolvers. To top it all off, the tapered shape of the 9mm make it all that more vulnerable to both. -
GT's says they have sold more 10mm Glocks in the last 2 years than probably in the 10 years prior to that.

The biggest failure I have seen over the years with autos that wasn't operator error was magazine failure. If you don't have a backup magazine you have a single shot handgun. I have seen a couple of broken firing pins on Sigmas and a couple of broken extractors. -
Carry laws pertaining to cash advance businesses
Patton replied to TripleDigitRide's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
No, you can carry in banks. -
I had issues with Berry's 124 gr plated bullets in mine. Other than that, 115 gr Fiocchi was all that I have tried. I have some 124 gr lead that I need to try, but I have dedicated 9mm Glocks so it doesnt get priority.

How about Alien Gear?

Unless it is already wore out I don't think you could afford enough plus p ammo to wear it out. To be honest, I wouldn't try to refinish it. There are a lot of "Smithophiles" like myself that just like a true original.

Dude, I wish that 610 was mine! I have some serious cash for anyone who has one like that.

Your right, just send me all those undesirable smooth cylinder Smiths. Any three inch barrel Smith will be a highly collectable and desired piece. However, you often pay dearly for them. The fit and finish of a GP100 will not compare to most Smiths, but you don't pay for it either. Rugers are fine pieces for what you pay for them. I will say that the GP100 Target Match and Wiley Clapps I have seen actually have some of the worst finishes of all the Rugers.

I have some well proven semi's other than Glocks, but I would be perfectly content with only a safe full of Glocks and Smith revolvers. I am just about there anyway.
-
A word of caution for you, one of the most common issues with LW is their tight throats. I can't shoot 124gr flat points through my LW unless I seat them really deep.
-
If it is 100% reliable don't bother with changing the extractor. In fact, there are many stories of people running 40 extractors in their 34/17/19/26 to help cure ejection problems.

I rally haven't found that many hot deals at Buds in Kodak, but Smokey Mtn Knife Works has had some the two times I have stopped. GT's in Rossville always has killer deals on used stuff and the occasional new firearm.
-
There were some some smoking great deals there back in December. I almost bought a Smith 5906 for $289, and they had some decent gen2, Glock 22's for $269. They had new Shields for $329(WOW).

buffalo bore @ smoky mountain knife works
Patton replied to A.J. Holst's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
They should be loaded with Gold Dots, but I found the Buffalo Bore 124 gr 9mm to be the least accurate round of all I have tested. And you are right about the brass case not being as corrosion resistant; I don't know why the don't load them in nickel cases. -
Reloader question. Cheap source for lead.
Patton replied to TN Volunteer's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I have only been casting for about the last year, but I have been gathering lead for a few years now. The majority of tires shops either say they have a list of people wanting them. I do occasionally run across lead without looking too hard through various sources. I have bought some off of eBay and been in it for about $2/lbs shipped. At that price I can manufacture loaded 9mm or .38 for $5 a box, and this is assuming i cant reclaim any shot lead. That makes it $100/1000 and worth it. -

Patton replied to FortKnox's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I know what you are saying, but I often think that the first shot in a semi-auto may actually be even more reliable as long as there is a round in the chamber. A lot has to happen for a revolver to fire, and a lot has to happen for a semi-auto to cycle. I carry a variety of snub-noses revolvers as a primary, and my favorite is by far a j frame. My all-time favorite was a 1991 640 38 spl that I foolishly sold. I like to carry the Airweights, but the all steel versions shoot so much better. -
I actually was referring to the combat grips. They are actually hard to come by unless you buy them from S&W direct.
