Thanks, Oh Shoot. I didn't know the shot would help after you've already had shingles. I'll talk with my doc on the next visit.

Been there; done that. The t-shirt isn't worth the "bragging rights". They make you down right miserable. I still itch and feel "crawly things" if I think about them. I was told that they are typically only on one side of your body; something to do with the nervous system. Unless there's a medical reason, even if the vaccine is 50-70% effective as Oh Shoot says, I sure consider it.

Pleasant View Village Diner 214 Village Square (off Hwy 41A) Pleasant View, TN Sign by the front door: "Firearms Welcome. Please keep all weapons holstered unless the need arises. In such a case judicious marksmanship is appreciated." Plus good food too. If you like them their chicken liver dinner is excellent . http://www.newvillagediner.com/ I'm not part of the business, just a satisfied customer.

I wonder if this would work? Glow in the dark paint+fiber optic
WindHawk replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in Handguns
I have some replacement fiber optic sight material - several colors - that I'll donate some to "the experiment". PM me an address if you'd like to have some mailed to you. -
Definitely want to get the information. Probably one, maybe two or three.

For breakfast on Saturdays and Sundays - Monell's in Germantown on 6th Ave. Go hungry, plan on skipping lunch, maybe dinner too.

Good information. Thanks!.

Texas open-carry gun groups threaten to leave NRA
WindHawk replied to The Legion's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Just e-mailed NRA a copy of the article along with my comments. As a life member my dues aren't at risk but my donations sure are. I fully support our right to carry open or concealed as allowed by the laws but I can't support deliberate confrontations with companies and individuals that were, at least tolerant and at best supportive of these rights. I don't agree with the Texas law but it's their state and their laws. I can't see any upside to NRA pandering to this and spreading the negative perceptions nationwide. -
Texas open-carry gun groups threaten to leave NRA
WindHawk replied to The Legion's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I'm sure the NRA is trembling with fear from the threats of a few misfits to burn their certificates, etc. Probably the best thing that can happen for the rest of the NRA members that respect reasonable behavior. Guess that I'll need to send a few $$ to Wayne to make up for the loss. :usa: -
Crossbreed Patent, What Does This Mean
WindHawk replied to runco's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
+1 Dane. It all depends on how the patent is written. Many product design patents are pretty easy to work around. Even if the patent owner fights it and wins the money involved may not be worth the battle. -
I still "smell" something fishy. It's interesting how the liberal press/video cameras/anti-groups etc. always seem to be at exactly the right place at exactly the right time to cover the reactions of the "terrified" citizens offended by these clowns. Seems like there's a high potential for a false flag operation involved.

I just noticed. This poll is on CNN's "International" page not their "US" news page. Makes their purpose even more "curious".

Interesting. Now it's gone!

Done.

Difficult time for all. Prayers for you and your family.

Open carry advocates prompt Chipotle posting
WindHawk replied to gregintenn's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Makes me wonder which side of the issue the "gun owners" were really supporting. It doesn't take a genius to know that carrying any long gun into a restaurant in Dallas will cause a high profile reaction, particularly if you have it well planned. I see a lot of potential "news value" for the anti-gun folks if they staged this. I can't see much upside for a pro-open carry event at a business that already allows firearms on the property. -
Welcome AMH! Good to have friends that know what that item is... and what it does.

Wife's birthday is Saturday... Restaurant suggestions?
WindHawk replied to Metalhead's topic in General Chat
Two of our favorites that I haven't seen mentioned are The Mad Platter in Germantown and Tin Angel on West End (across from Maggiano's). -
The combination roll pin starter/detent pin instalaltion tool that sells for about $10 pays for itself in lost detent pins and frustration. That tedious one on the front takedown pin can be installed without but if you have one it becomes 10 second job with no lost detents.

Hi Jared. Welcome to TGO. I don't post much but do a lot of "listening" and learning. Lots of knowledge an great folks on here.
-
I could go for a TGO patch (or 3). Maybe a Velcro back to be able to swap it to other things.
-
TGO #168 will be built as a 300 BLK carbine soon. Last parts should come in this week; 16" BlackHole polygonal barrel.

Gun buyback fail - Bring your own tissues
WindHawk replied to TripleDigitRide's topic in General Chat
+1 for TankerHC's comment. I was about to say it but he said it better than I can. -
Hadn't been on my list before but with a "Made in Tennessee" marking one's definitely on there now.

1pointofview, before you make a decision, check out the earth coupled heat pumps. They cost significantly more initially than the air exchange types but are much more efficient. I know a guy that has that system and claims to be running an electric bill of less than $250/mo total for 7,000 sq ft. It's new construction with high efficiency everything but that's still pretty impressive. I installed Trane high efficiency combo units (propane furnace for heat/electric AC) but wish I'd looked harder at the earth coupled heat pumps. The Trane units are very good. There's so little heat being wasted through the vent that they piped with PVC vent pipe. When you build consider 2x6 studs on the outer walls with the blown cellulose insulation and a very careful application of house wrap (tape the seams, around the windows, etc.) Also, high efficiency windows (double pane with the metallic coating and filled with argon). We did those things and the difference is huge. Right now at 9 degrees outside I can stand by a window and it just feels slightly cool. No drafts anywhere either. Which ever heat/AC system you chose the quality of construction/insulation will make a big difference.
