I don't own a sig but have 1911 as well as glock pistols.  I don't see a need to make a choice of one or the other.  If I like a pistol, I will buy it.  If not, I'll search for one I like better.  The pistols I carry daily are usually much less expensive than those in the safe.

I usually have a g27 or EMP40 along with an LCP in the truck.  Incidents like this could persuade me to carry a LE6920 behind the passenger seat.

.... I dump a bag or two of quikcrete in any hole near the fence and wet it good with the hose, and by the next day I've spoiled his fun on that spot.   If I used quickcrete to fill the holes my hounds have dug, my back yard would be paved with quickcrete.

.....As far as holsters go...  I am 100% comfortable with no holster on guns with a long, heavy trigger.  When I had hard to pull guns, they went in the pocket naked.  Now that I have moved to the micro 1911s, I have a holster as I am not comfortable with a light trigger sitting uncovered in the pocket.....   I am not comfortable with a pistol in my pocket without a holster.

I"d prefer to be at the range now, but all the reasonable priced ammo was bought by gougers and I'm not paying their prices.
