I'm not suprised that his veto was made while he was in China! I agree with him guns and alcohol don't mix - I'd never put alcohol in my guns or guns in alcohol. As quickly as possible, gun owners need to call or email as many senators and representatives as possible, to ask that they over ride the veto. TFA has a link providing their emsil sddresses.

Times seem to vary from very short to long waits. After 30 days I would politely call DPS to inquire the status. I spent several months patiently waiting for my permit. When I finally called, it was issued that day and received 5 days later.
