If you'll notice, the news media and the anti-gunners don't want to talk about Columbine. Why you ask? It's because it happened when the last ban was in effect and it did nothing to stop it.

Chuck, I'd be careful posting stuff like that on a internet forum.

Building an AR - Post Ban Which Parts Will Be Available
m16ty replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
If it's like the '94 ban, the only thing that will be hard to get is recievers. You would be able to buy any new but still be allowed to buy pre-ban guns or recievers. When the '94 ban was in effect, you could still get all the "evil" accessories, you just couldn't put them on a post-ban reciever. New mags over 10 rounds were also illegal to buy but you could still own and buy pre-ban 10 round plus mags. The new ban could very well cover more than the '94 ban. I've heard everything from turn them all in to you could own pre-ban items but couldn't sell them or pass them on when you die. I've even heard talk of making the new ban just an extension of the '94 ban. I take that to mean that any banned gun or mag bought after 2004 would be considered a post-ban item and illegal to own (meaning it would have to be turned in or destroyed). All we really have to go by is the '94 ban and the "task force" is using the '94 ban as a template to build off of. A actually think the '94 ban would have a chance of passing. What we can hope is the libs add enough crazy stuff to it that it won't pass. Dianne Frankinstien has already said if she can get enough votes she'll send the BATF knocking on your door to take all your guns.. -
Does Gov't know what firearms you have?
m16ty replied to ohbehave's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
If the govenrment wanted to find out what you had, they could. The main problem is the government is incompetent. The NFA registry the BATF keeps is a mess. I have firsthand knowlege of a owner of a NFA item that contacted the BATF about his paperwork. That was several years ago and to this day they have been unable to produce a copy of his form 4. Evendently, they can't find it. -
Great replies! I started this thread to get us to thinking. Some have expanded on my idea and others have mentioned new ones. I personally feel we have a lot better chance getting something done on a state level than we do on the federal level. We have a pretty pro-gun government on the state level here in TN. Even thought the liberals won the national election, they didn't win TN and a bunch of other states. While the country as a whole is moving to the left, I think TN and other southern states are moving right. The only way I see the conservitives ever getting ahead again is to stand up for our 10th amendment rights.

I had an Idea today. With all the talk of federal bans, I think I may have found a way around it. It seems any bans would only apply to civilains and not law enforcement. Could the state of TN make a licensing system that would in essence deputize the civilains wanting to own banned guns and mags? Like a state permiting system that would (on paper) make civilains part of law enforcement. Or maybe even a type of state militia that only required permit to join. It's just something I thought of and I'm not even sure it would work. At least it would be a way for the state of TN to give the feds the finger on gun bans.

I'm looking at buying a few things. I wouldn't call it panic buying because I'm not going to give some of the prices I've been seeing. If I see a decent deal I'll jump on it. Deals are still out there if you look around hard enough. I'm also prepared to send the NRA a sizable check but I'm going to wait and see what they are going to do. A news conference is sceduled for tomorrow. I'm a life member but I don't agree with everything the NRA does, it is the best voice we have though. Even the liberals will admit they are the most powerful lobby out there.

You can find most of the info about raising animals at your local extension office. They also give free classes but they don't get into butchering. What I'd think you'd want to do is give some brief animal husbandry at the begining of the class but other than that I'd just tell them where to get the info (the extension office) and have the bulk of the class be about butchering. You may want to check with them yourself to help you with the class, they are always glad to help at the local office here. We haven't done any in the last couple of years but we always used to kill hogs every winter. I've thought about giving a class myself and have it be a hands on class. I will say I've found out that a lot of the people that think they would like to butcher their own meat run the other way when you get into the blood and guts of it.

That's a good read. One of the best written articles I've seen on the subject.

I heard a guy on TV last night say-"We need to get rid of 30 round clips and guns with pistol grips. Nobody needs 30 rounds and a pistol grip helps you shoot the gun faster". We've all heard the "30 round clip rhetoric" but a pistol grip helps you shoot faster? I don't recall who the guy was but was credited as a "expert" in firearms so I venture to say he knew he was lying when he said it.

I was just trying to make a point with the "you can't eat gold" comment. I was trying to say it's useless as a survival tool IMO. Sounds like some people disagree and that's ok. It may be good when civilization rebuilds but who knows. I don't think I'll have to barter my last meal. I won't have to barter for anything to survive unless I have some sort of medical problem that I can't handle. I'm pretty well covered on everything else. It's not all that hard to survive in a rual setting if you can keep all the thieves away. The cities and suburbs will be a different story.

After looking into this a little more today, I'm leaning toward no AWB but a mag ban. What I think very well could happen is the Dems will put out the AWB. The Rep will reject it but Beohner will compromise, as he does so well, and give them the mag ban. The NRA, in years past, really only cared about the hunters and their guns. About the last decade they have really changed though. It's been awhile since I sent in a donation so I think I'll send one in. I've even thought about handing out memberships for Christmas presents.

Where are all of the pro- gun voices?
m16ty replied to superduty's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
The NRA has never been one to jump out right after a tragedy. A lot of it is out of respect. You can bet your bottom dollar there's a bunch going on behind the scenes. I haven't sent in a donation to the NRA in awhile. I think it's a good time. I've even thought about handing out memberships for Christmas presents this year. -
Firearms confiscation. How would it go down?
m16ty replied to timcar86's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
The govenment can (if they have the balls) effectively disarm the population. You just use the same tactics that are used to make you pay taxes, you make a really bad example of a few so the others are brought in line for fear it will happen to them. Now there will be some diehards that won't comply but they will either have to go into hiding or will be killed. n Read the story about how Saddam Hussein came to power. If you can make a bad enough example of a few, the rest will fall in line. I like to think I'd be one of the ones that stood my ground and may have to go into hiding but you never know what you'd do untill faced with it. There is a very slight posiblity that people could band together and fight off the government. This has a very slim chance of working because it's hard to get a very big group to come together on anything and because of the fear of death or severe prosecution of the prople. There just aren't that many patriots around anymore. One other option would be to try and cause total economic collapse. That would strain government resources and they would have more of the people to have to deal with and could also lead to a breakdown in govenment. Things would be bad in this situation but at least we'd still have our freedom. -
I honestly don't think it will pass, but that's just my feeling (I also thought BHO wouldn't get re-elected). The reason I don't think it will pass is it is too sweeping. Also add the fact that there are millions more "assault weapons" and high cap mags than there were out there in '94. Back in '94 the people that owned "assault weapons" were a fairly small minority. Today, I'd venture to say the AR15 is the top selling single gun in the nation. In '94 I could probably list all the AR makers on one hand, today every major brand (and even a bunch of minor brands) offers some sort of AR. That's one reason you see ARs involved in all these shootings, it's just so darned common. The way I understand the proposed ban, guns and high cap mags will be grandfathered but you won't be able to sell them or pass them on when you die. That provision alone could put huge hardships on gun makers and dealers with sizable inventories and would make your banned guns and mags worthless.

I also think any cash or precious metals will be useless in a SHTF deal. You can't eat gold or silver. I honestly can't think of any survival value with any precious metal.

I don't post here much but I'm here almost every day lately. In light of the events that happened, I'm ready to start a movement to allow qualified teachers to carry guns at school. I'm going to start with my local school board and go from there. We need to push this point because we know what the real problem is, gun free zones. Feel free to PM me If you'd like to help me with this movement.

You are right saying the pres. can't do much to help the economy. They can do a bunch to hurt the economy. That's what you're seeing now. I think Romney is playing the AWB like Bush did. While he (Bush) did say he would renew the ban if it crossed his desk, he made darned sure it never made it that far. It's just a political move to play both sides publicly. Now you can argue if this is a good strategy or not but the politicians seem to think it works. I tend (hope) to think that the NRA has met with Romney and know what his true stance is on 2nd amendment issues is. I also think they like what he told them.

I've been to Mexico twice. I was nice but I don't think I'll go back. 1) If you happen to get injured or need medical attention while you're there, good luck. We rode 4-wheelers while we were there once and one of the people with us had a wreck and almost broke his leg. I really don't want them working on me in a Mexican hospital. 2) If you get in any kind of trouble with the police, good luck. You don't even have to be doing anything wrong. Alot of the police are corrupt. 3) American hostages are cash cows for the mexican gangs. They will snatch you up in a heatbeat (given the chance) and hold you for ransom. After that they would more than likely kill you. I had a good friend that crossed the border and never came back alive. The family never found out what happened but they had to pay what amounted to a pretty steep ransom to the Mexican authorities just to get the body back.

Glock Pistol Sales Up After Arizona Shootings
m16ty replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Maybe the run on Glocks are because people are thinking they are soon to be banned in AZ? This whole deal is going to end up shafting us gun owners if we're not careful. Whenever a shooting like this happens, the first thing I want to know is what kind of gun was used. You know that's going to be the next gun on their list to restrict. The anti-gun crowd has been fairly quiet the last few years. This just gives them new hope to push their movement forward. -
Legal Defense Funds or Retaining an attorney
m16ty replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I have to agree. Even if they are a ligit outfit, I have a feeling they won't fight your case like you think it should be fought. They will be trying to defend your case with as few funds as possible. A low budget lawyer is not something you want when your butt's on the line. If you really think it's a need to have a legal defense fund I'd start one myself. Just open up a savings account and put some money back for the "rainy day". -
The bottom like is, I'm a very big gun rights advocate but I'm also a big property rights advocate (I personally don't think you can be a true conservitive without both these beliefs). So, as bad as I hate it, a person has the right to say what goes on on their own property.

Please tell me this isn't true for Tennessee....
m16ty replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Didn't TN pass a law afer Katrina to prevent this kind of action? I thought they did but I could be wrong. -
I got stopped by a TN state trooper about a year ago (I had let my tags run out). I didn't let him know I had a gun at first becasue it wasn't on my person. When he asked for registration I told him there was a gun in the glove box as that's where the registration was. He asked if he could open the glove box and remove the gun. I had nothing to hide so I said ok. He opened the passenger door, took the gun out, laid the gun on the seat, and then dug my registration out. All the while I kept my hands on the steering wheel. After it was all over he did thank me for telling him there was a gun in the glove box and not just opened it myself.

You're not required to do so but I always tell the cop I'm armed when I get stopped. Some cops can be awfully jumpy and the last thing you want to do is have him eye your gun and suprise him. Truth be told, they more than likely already know you're a permit holder when they run your tags. I've been stopped a few times and have never been asked to produce my HCP. They know you're a permit holder when they run your tags and/or DL. Your HCP and your DL are the same number.
