I've heard some of the talking heads that are a little soft on gun rights even saying he shouldn't go the EO route. It's not that they don't want to ban guns, it's that they fear the backlash it will cause.   The way I see it, a lot gun owners will be up in arms if some gun control passes through congress. If he signs a EO, all gun owners (and some that aren't) will be up in arms. It becomes more than a gun issue then, it also becomes a power issue.   Republican lawmakers are starting to get tired of BHO thumbing his nose at them. This will just add to that and hopefully push them to action.

He also blames gun groups like the NRA for panic buying. What?   The NRA has said very little about all of this. He's the one that has everybody stirred up.   This is all just part of the plan. He's been trying to get NRA members (and the general public) to think the NRA only represents gun manufacurers and is actually against gun owners. The gun grabbers have been saying this since all this started. He tries to paint himself as the champion of law abiding gun owners and the gun rights groups are the enemy. It may work for some of the general public but I hope most gun owners aren't buying it.

How would congress work? If congress passed a bill to nullify it would the pres still have to sign it? If so, it all falls back on the current president.   You are right about the SCOTUS but they've had 23 years to take it up. I'm really not sure if this would fall under a 2nd amendment issue or a importation issue.

Correct. President Clinton was the last president to recieve lifetime protection. So I guess Bush Jr will be the only president with 10 year protection.   Was this voted on (and passed) by Congress or is this another EO?

You've got to admit, Morgan is pretty slick. What he does with all of these debates is to let the person speak their mind then at the end his tries to discredit them making everything they said previously null and void.   He did it with Alex Jones. I think he's a idiot and acted like one but notice how Morgan brung up the 9-11 deal at the end. What that did was to confirm he was a idiot and nothing he says can be trusted.   He also did it with Shapiro also. He tried to press him in the end about the "tyrannical government" trying to make him look crazy and out of touch with the main stream. I don't think we won discrediting him but he sure was trying.   You've got to be pretty slick to beat Morgan at his own game. He wouldn't even have these guest on his show if he didn't think he could walk all over them. If you ever get invited to his show you better do your homework because the only reason you're invited is to discredit you. Ben showed him up.

There was a list of banned firearms in the '94 ban. I don't recall which ones were on the list but the makers just changed the name of the firearm (and features) and kept making them.   The import ban came about in 1989 by an executive order signed by Bush Sr. It's still in effect. It could be resended by a simple action by a sitting president but you're going to have to wait atleast another 4 years.

I have my doubts that many american communities would band together like the "Six Nations" did. I could be wrong.

Some NFA items were included in the '94 ban. Machine guns weren't because they were already banned back in '86. A SBR was included in the ban.   You could still build a AR15 SBR under the '94 ban but it had to comply with post-ban standards (no colapsable stock, no flash hider, no bayonet lug, no threaded barrel).

I'll be honest, if we come out the other side of this with only a private sale ban I wouldn't count it as a win but they are talking about much, much worse . In my opinion it's about the least offensive measure I've heard proposed.   There's really no way to enforce it outside of public places like gun shows unless they also pass registration. I don't see many people registering their guns though.

I still don't buy the fact that they make zero dollars or a a loss on guns and ammo. Now I'm not saying they that's what keeps the store afloat but the sporting goods dept. operates in the black.   The bottom line is Walmart doesn't care about your gun rights unless if affects their bottom line.

I'll try to explain more what I'm trying to say.   Lets say I submit the application on 1/11/13. While I'm waiting for my application to be approved, they pass a AW ban on 3/1/13. I then get my application approved on 3/15/13.   If this ban is anything like the '94 ban, I will have turned a pre-ban gun into a post-ban SBR gun. Again assuming it's like the '94 ban but with more feature restrictions, I'll have a SBR lower that I can't assemble unless I can figure out (if it's even possible with the way the ban is written) how to build it into a post-ban gun.   The way I understand the law is that when you change a regular rife into a NFA firearm it's building a new gun with the build date no sooner than when the application is approved. If that is correct and the approval date falls after any future ban that affects the rife in question, the gun would be considered post-ban.   I could be all wrong on this but want to find out for sure before I submit my paperwork. Knowing that I can withdraw the application while in process seems like that is good enough though but I wonder if you get the $200 back?

I'm wanting to SBR a ar-15. What I'm afraid of is that I fill out the paperwork and send it off, in the mean time the feds get a new AWB passed, and when I finally get my paperwork back I can't build the SBR because it's banned, making the lower worthless.   Am I right about this? The reason I'm thinking this is when the form 1 is approved, it is treated as a new firearm. If this happens after a ban, there would be no way I could even grandfather it. I just don't want to turn what is now a usable lower into something I paid $200 to turn it into a paperweight.   I've got the form 1 filled out but want to find out about this before I send it off.

Are you saying walmart doesn't make money from guns and ammo? I don't have access to their leger books but I'd be willing to bet any amount of money they do.   I'd also bet that if it ever got to the point there were no money to be made in selling guns and ammo, they'd stop selling them.   They don't sell guns because because of any strong 2nd amendment values, they sell them because there is money in it.   Walmart doesn't make very much money on any single item they sell. They just sell so much of it that it all adds up.

I've seen similar reports about this. I honestly don't see it holding much water though.   "According to reports, that amendment says the government cannot use doctors to collect "any information relating to the lawful ownership or possession of a firearm or ammunition."   Seems to me all they have to do is make the ownership or possession unlawful and this provision will be null and void.   Also as was said above, they won't be using doctors to collect this info.

I think Walmart will do whatever the BHO is asking especially if it adds money it their wallet. I'd venture to say that Walmart isn't a pro-gun company. They only sell guns and ammo because it makes them money, nothing more, nothing less. If they stop making money on guns, they will quit selling them. If they are given a option to keep selling guns and make even more money, they will be all for it.

Yes, it deserves our support but it will not pass for at least another 4 years. BHO will veto it if it ever does pass the House and the Senate and there's no way they'd ever get enough votes to override a veto.   There will be no pro-gun bills signed into law on the federal level within the next 4 years. We will be very, very lucky if we can just maintain the status quo.

  I agree.   Alex Jones isn't helping our cause. He could have let Morgan ask the questions and then systematicly shot them down but instead he just screamed through the "debate" and then at the end he lost most of his crediblity when he started talking about 9-11 being a inside job.

I hear that they are giving the NRA a token seat at the table. I highly doubt they will listen to anything they have to say though.

  Actually they can. They are called transferable machine guns. They are heavily regulated though.

I understand what you are saying. I kind of feel the same way. It just depends on which you value more, property rights or gun rights. To me, they carry equal weight and that's why I'm torn.
