  1.   The country is full of them. fools that is.     Somebody needs to tell her that felons are already barred from owning guns.
  2. I've learned a lot of stuff from my many years dealing with law enforcement.    I've tried to be confrontational (when I was younger) and that has never worked out in my favor.   I have found that just being honest and forthcoming can go a long way on something like a simple citation that the officer has discretion to overlook .   If it's something more that a simple citation, keep your mouth shut. You don't have to be confrontational but just shut up.   Years ago (when I was 16) I got confronted by the Game Warden for spotlighting deer. All I had done was shine the truck headlights into a field of deer. At the time, I didn't know it was illegal so I spilled the beans to the Warden thinking he would turn me loose after finding out I didn't have a gun or a spotlight. Come to find out the Warden had zero evidence other than a concerned citizen thought he saw me doing it (but wasn't sure) until I voluntarily gave him all the evidence he needed to issue a court summons. Ended up having to go to court and got off with nothing more than a stern talking to from the judge but I learned to keep my mouth shut in the future.   A lawyer told me one time "If you are being implicated in a crime, the cops already know what they know and there is nothing you can say to change that. By talking, the only possible outcome is you hurting yourself".
  3. Just another good reason not to go to NY.    Not that it's right what happened to her but she should have known better than trying to board a plane in NY with a gun (even in 1985).
  4. Honestly, I have no fear whatsoever being shot by a handgun permit holder. I do have a fear of being shot by a cop in a bad situation.
  5. I know what people are going to think reading the title but the truth is, my Diamondback 380 has never missed a lick the whole time I've owned it.    I like how the gun fits me and shoots so I'm thinking of carrying it some. I carry concealed but have never found a concealment holster that fits me and are very uncomfortable. I have found that if I carry a small frame gun and leave my shirt untucked, I can hide the gun pretty well OWB.   The problem I'm having is finding a decent left handed OWB holster for the gun. Does anybody know where to find one?
  6. A lot people throwing such a fuss over Carly Fiorina laying off 30K employees think that corporations are only in business to employ people. No, they are in business to make money. If they do make money, employment will follow.   I don't know of a single person that goes into business for the purpose of giving people jobs. People go into business to make money. Most can't make money without employees. The more money they make, the more they hire.
  7. I just wasted part of my life reading that. It was funny none the less.    That whole ordeal can't be real though. It's just too far out there. I suspect just a troll that likes to go on message boards and stir people up. There's no way somebody could be that dumb. Probably some kid that is laughing at everybody that takes him serious.
  8. If I'm selling a gun to somebody I know or at least know of, it's cash and carry. If somebody just comes up to me out of the blue wanting to buy something at a gun show or something, If they can't produce a HCP it's a no sale.   I know they aren't required to show you anything for a private sale but the last thing you want is to have a crime weapon traced back to you.
  9. The way I see this is is it's just people making a point and aren't really doing much protection. The point, which I fully agree with, is that it takes civilians to protect the military with the current policies in place.    I like the element of surprise. I'd feel much better sitting in my vehicle nearby just watching what's going on. It doesn't make the political statement like marching in front of the door with a AR but it's tactically more feasible.
  10.   I was in a meeting last week where a big company with 500 employees is leaving CA and setting up shop in TN. The are letting some of the higher ups move with them but most will be getting a pink slip. The only comment I had was "they get what the deserve". I hate it for the people loosing their jobs but when they elect the idiots that make CA very expensive and restrictive to do business in, what do the expect?
  11. I don't really even like talking about this because I don't want to give the bad guys any ideas but I've long worried about church safety. The Muslim extremist do preach death to Christians after all. I've thought about talking to my elders about this but I know their response. They don't want to officially condone violence but won't kick anybody out for being armed. I know several members that are armed, including one of the elders.
  12. Outdate to this thread. I was just at the Gatlinburg Convention Center today and it is now properly posted with the gun buster sign at all enterances I saw. I only found this out after walking 4 blocks down hill from my hotel which ment I had to walk back 4 blocks up hill to secure my firearm in my vehicle.
  13. In most of the disarming techniques you're forcing the trigger finger into the trigger. The gun is likely to go off, even if the bad guy doesn't want it to. You better make 100% sure you're clear of the muzzle before you even try it.   I had a incident awhile back that basically amounted to road rage with a drunk. I realized real quick how much of a disadvantage you're in when somebody approaches you from behind while you're sitting in a vehicle. I didn't have to draw my gun but was getting ready to and found out how awkward it is to assume a shooting position from the seat and aim behind you. By far your best option is to speed away if you can.
  14. If I think the officer may discover the gun during the stop, I'll inform him my permit and the weapon. If I don't think the officer will see the gun or it's not on my person, I usually don't say anything. They know if you have a permit when they run your DL.    I have never been asked to show my permit, even after I told I had one. I figure they just run your DL and get the info they need.   I did have a "situation" a couple of months ago. I normally don't carry at work (I have to go to federal government property from time to time and they frown on entering with a pocketknife, much less a firearm). I had to take a trip to AL and thought I'd carry. I had put the gun in my bag inside the truck. I got stopped for a safety inspection by a AL State Trooper. He asked to see my log book. It was under my bag so I moved the bag to get the log book. The bag zipper was opened so when I moved the bag, there was the gun laying right in the top of the bag for all the world to see (being nor used to carrying at work, I had forgotten the gun was in there). I said "I'm terribly sorry, I had forgotten the gun was in there". All he said was "I see it" and that was it. Even he didn't ask to see my HCP and didn't even say anything else about it.
  15. I just did a good bit or reading over on the Facebook page. I literally could not believe what I was reading.   Do these idiots not realize how hypocritical they are with advocating violence against the armed guy? I've never seen so much hatred toward gun owners.
  16. A 5kw will run pretty much all you need. for the average house, if you don't have electric heat. I've got a 10KW military generator and can run the whole house (including AC).   The good thing about military generators is they will run 10% over rated output for hours on end and never miss a beat ( the civilian equivalent to my 10kw military is rated at 12,500kw). The down side is they are loud. Being load isn't really a problem for me as I have no near neighbors but probably wouldn't be a good idea in a subdivision.
  17. I've only been in two real fist fights my whole life. Both times I threw the first punch but I didn't start the fight.   If I get backed in a corner and I don't see a exit without going through you, I'm not going to hang around for you to hit me before I defend myself. Both of the fights above happened when I was younger and it was a time when you just took your whipping and went home so no cops were involved. I don't know what the law would say but I think it would be akin to having to be shot (or at least shot at) before returning fire with a gun.
  18. I don't open carry per-say but I don't really conceal either. I always wear a OWB holster with a untucked shirt over it. The main reason I do this is I find all the concealment holsters I've tried are extremely uncomfortable.   Unless somebody is looking for a gun, nobody will ever notice. I've even been out with my wife before and when we get home and getting undressed I'll pull my gun off and she will say "I didn't know you had your gun with you".
  19. I've been stopped several times with a gun in plain sight and nobody has ever said anything about it. All of the times I inform the officer that I had a loaded firearm and they all say "I know". As has already been said, they usually know they are dealing with a HCP holder before they ever approach the vehicle, and are trained to look for firearms so if it's in plain sight they will notice it right away.   I have never been asked to show my HCP. If they don't find out when they run the tags they will when they run the DL.
  20. If a power outage is widespread and lengthy, you won't have any natural gas or gasoline either.   Natural gas requires pumps (that are powered by electric motors and electronics) to move it from the well to your house. Gasoline also requires pumps to get it from point A to point B to in your tank.   I do a lot of contract work for a municipal water department. You would be surprised at how fragile the system is. I've been called out on jobs where they were literally minutes away from a widespread and lengthy system collapse. We always got it fixed and the unknowing public never knows how close they came to loosing water or sewage backing up into their house.   The sewer system is actually more critical to urban areas that water is. If the plant shuts down, very soon there will be sewage running down the streets and a fairly large portion of the water supplies will be heavily polluted. This leads the way for a lot of diseases.
  21. It's my opinion that it's always best to let the cop know you are armed during a traffic stop. There's no legal reason to do it but it's a good way to get shot when a jumpy cop gets suprised by a gun on your side. I just like armed people (myself and the cop) both to remain calm while dealing with the situation and getting everything out in the open to start with helps with that.   If the gun is under the seat or something I'll keep quiet but if it's on my person or in the glovebox (that I'll have to open to produce my vehicle registration) I'll let the cop know that I do have a HCP and am armed.   I don't open carry but do usually use a belt holster with a untucked shirt. I usually carry small frame guns so while it does print a little, It just looks like a large cell phone bulge. If my shirt comes up you will see my gun though. I'd like to conceal it a little better but all the concealment holsters I've tried were very uncomfortable.
  22. I personally think all this came from the White house but they only have two options, to admit the white house is behind it all or they are grossly incompetent. They have decided to use grossly incompetent. Even if that's true that's not a good place to be.   Even if Obama and Holder didn't know a thing they are just admiting to the public that they can't manage their department or administration.
  23. I doubt he was drunk. I just think he didn't care and was more worried about his election campain.
  24. The way I understand the law is it says " if you've ever been convicted of a felony" not "if you are a felon". So the way this layperson sees it, even if you are given a complete pardon that still doesn't erase the fact that you were convicted of a felony (even though you've been pardoned).   It's kind of like if you've been married then divorced. Even though you're not married now, if somebody ask you if you've ever been married, the answer would have to be "yes".
  25. I agree. I've been called a "ammo hoarder" and talked nasty to for doing it. Mostly it's from people that know I keep quite a bit on hand and they don't and are trying to buy some in these times. Guess what, I'm not buying any of that high priced ammo because I have pelnty on hand. I'm not the one driving the prices up because I'm not buying. I'll just wait until it comes back down and buy another few 1,000 rounds.
