  1. I see Belle Meade playing it smart with the NRA. I don't see the NRA supporting Kwik. To top it off, there's a ton of political juice living in Belle Meade. Old money, and LOTS of it. Not that money and juice make any difference in TN.
  2. I wonder. Right now it looks like he's getting his butt kicked. When you bring up his family, it reminds me of a line in a buddy's song, "my family tree is more like a hedge"
  3. http://www.customcartridge.com/pdfs/BallisticGel.pdf
  4. How come I didn't get my new boxes? They always just bring me the smashed ones.
  5. I hear you, but the way I read this, the end result will be to REMOVE a regulation that will make organized labor possible. Did I read it wrong?
  6. Scary words. I don't smoke pot, but I've been around a lot of it. In my opinion, if that's his drug of choice, he wouldn't be any more impaired the next day than if he would have had a few drinks instead. There are some ugly drugs out there, most available by prescription. Pot is not one of them, and is less toxic than alcohol, unless you ask the liquor lobby. AR really nailed it. He was charged with a felony, and the state would be crazy to let him continue.
  7. How is it more govenment control, other than the fact that it was probably spun that way in the articles? Both companies are subject to federal regulation. Sounds like the argument is about the difference in how they are regulated. UPS may be in the right.
  8. Thanks OS! I haven't been watching this. I get it now. Kinda read between the lines, but didn't know it went that deep.
  9. I was talking to the guy with the bat
  10. There you go... bringing a bat to a gunfight
  11. Fedex HAS moved into some more ground based stuff. If I was UPS, I would challenge the way are are regulated, unions and politics aside. Unfortunately, it's hard to read anything these days that doesn't have a bunch of spin and embellishment. It's nearly impossible to get the real story without talking to the right person inside. The main company I work for gets a lot of press, and it's almost never accurate. The folks that really know aren't talking, so it's up to some "journalist" to speculate, and print it as fact
  12. Exactly. I had to deal with IBEW Local One in St. Louis. The union was a PITA, but the electricians rocked. Maybe the best I've ever seen. EDIT: they were also the highest paid guys in town, so they attracted the best.
  13. I've just had some family in the transportation industry in union strongholds. My dad was a member of the Teamsters when I was a kid. Just telling you what I think is really happening. We don't see much of that stuff in this part of the world. I don't think the Musicians' Union has ever broken any kneecaps
  14. Not my opinion... theirs. I'm not a fan of those guys. They used to do things by breaking kneecaps. The methods are different these days, but AFIK, their mentality is about the same. I have had to deal with trade unions on large projects before (mostly St. Louis). Strong arm tactics (insinuated) are standard procedure. It's all about their turf. Pretty easy to get yourself hurt.
  15. OK... I read the second article. My take on this.. it's the Teamsters being themselves. My little brother works for a company that was independent, but now owned by Fedex Freight. When fedex established the freight division, they got in UPS's nickers, and more importantly, stepped on the Teamsters' turf. This kinda stuff has been going on in the transportation industry for decades. Just another big lobby feeding greedy politicians. Are the Dems pro union? Yep, always have been. It may be an outrage, but it looks like the same old stuff to me.
  16. I have a BIG problem with unions, mostly because of their thug tactics. With at said, I have gotten some kickass work out of some union tradesman.
  17. Fedex IS a better company, but I've had them pull some major boners over the years. The worst one was actually in Memphis... some high priority gear that was to be delivered right down the street from them. We even went to the Fedex offices, and they told us tough . I don't hold it against them... just sayin' I think we can all agree on one thing. DHL sucked
  18. Dollars make a big difference, especially between two companies that both do an adequate job. Adequate, in this case, means it gets there on time and in one piece 99% of the time. I use Fedex almost exclusively for my personal business, but most of the companies I deal with use UPS for regular shipping. They all have Fedex accounts for high priority stuff.
  19. I have used both a lot, always between business addresses. Fedex may be slightly better (very slightly) than UPS at deliveing on time and in the right place. The main difference is that UPS sometimes beats the crap out of the boxes, and Fedex does not. I'm talking smashed corners and/or holes. 99% of my shipping is electronics. My rule is that if it's worth more than $20k, it goes Fedex. Fedex IMHO is a well run company. If they unionize, it will most likely change their quality of service or price.
  20. We already did the preliminary work on the Spud Magnum. Tripod mounted, all steel pipe, and a different propellant
  21. I know how to make a potato cannon, and my .45 ACP rounds would be damn near as deadly with a slingshot as they are thru the 1911
  22. ...and they would expect that. They couldn't really get good results without tossing every house in the US. It's a pretty huge manpower requirement. Not gonna happen anyway, but if it did, they're not going to stand on the front porch and wait for you to bring them out. As for me... I forgot the combination.
  23. And haji sez, "How did that turd wind up in my do rag?"
  24. I think the main point of the paper was to fill the longer range gap. I my ballistics program doesn't have any data on the 6.8 SPC, but from what I've read, it's gonna have better long range smack than the 5.56, and was designed to work with an AR lower. Too bad our guvment poo poo'ed the round when it was first developed.
  25. Cool. I'll come along and play Obama if you want. Which one of you is gonna play the white guy? Gotta do it Tennesse style. Everbody brings their guns
