Japan is so different from the US, it's hard to compare. A lot of the food supplies have to be shipped into Japan when things are normal. Short of an asteroid hit, there's no natural event that would wipe out the US food and water supply. I have been in a few hurricane zones where there were serious food and water shortages, but it was easy and quick enough to carry it in. Those areas were pretty much "blasted back to the stone age", but you could drive out of them, just like I drove in..

Seems like all Obama has to do to satisfy most liberals is just say some stuff. So, he said some stuff that was kinda on their side. As liberals go, I think they just want nanny to solve their problems with "smart" new laws. I know a lot of liberals that I wouldn't call gun grabbing zealots, even though they don't like guns. Obama may have done us a (unintentional) favor with that piece. He was complimentary and supportive of gun owners. That may actually tone down the majority of liberals. I also think that when it comes to more infringement, it will probably stop in the House.

Yes, I'm for background checks. Sounds like the only thing he's trying to go for is background checks at gun shows. Haven't thought my way through that, because it doesn't effect me. More importantly, he is surrounded by idiots that screw up everything they touch. So, no matter how pure his intentions, it's scary.

I don't know how Reagan would have stood on the issue. If he were to run today, he may not be a Tea Party endorsed candidate. He was conservative, but probably not conservative enough for some of the current crop.

I agree with JMB. Not worth challenging in court, when it's obvious they don't want guns in their place.
