  1. My visits have all been great. I've sent a couple of folks your way because of it.
  2. The Hogue grip is great. I have Magpul MOE grips on my carbines, partly for looks, and partly because the guns take batteries. The other two, my scoped varmint and my big bore (with the imaginary RRA upper) have Hogues. Building an AR isn't for everybody. It's simple enough, especially if you've done a lot of delicate mechanical work. It still takes time getting up to speed, and requires tools.
  3. +1
  4. Brands aren't as important as you might think, since most of them don't make their own stuff. The flexibility of the platform is a blessing and a curse. lots of choices means lots of decisions. I like use a lot of magpul stuff. Most receivers are good quality. A mil spec bolt carrier group is a good thing. You gotta have some idea how much you're willing to spend, and what kind of shooting you plan to do. Free float handguards improve accuracy. Start rolling up a list and throw it out here. This bunch will keep you out of trouble.
  5. That basically what I posted with the link on Facebook. There's a Walmart in the next town over, in all directions.
  6. I was trying to remember that one. Sticking the link in my favorites.
  7. I know Duce pretty well. He got the stripped lower from me. I always swap out the trigger groups on my lowers, so I'm primarily concerned with the other parts in the kit. If your lower is working OK, there's no reason to swap out a kit. You can buy the individual parts at Midway and other places if something breaks.
  8. Jon_L is speaking the truth. Nothing wrong with buying one off the rack. You can always change it. You may save a few bucks with a build.
  9. I have 3 DPMS kits. No hiccups at all. DPMS sells more kits than anybody else. Again, not scared of DD, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

  11. Cool. Just wondering if I was going to have to help polish the teeth marks out of your upper receiver . No way I would stick an MOE stock on the .458. Good way to get a mouthfull of gun.
  12. Why? I'm a DD fan, but have had great luck with DPMS kits.
  13. How much recoil is this thing going to have?
  14. I would guess the salvage value is part of the payment. I have given away more than one radio tower to cover the cost of disassembly. Just more of our government's fine work.
  15. It was his noggin (different thread)
  16. Beats the hell out of giving them to the ATF
  17. I get to work from home a lot, but have been in the office part of every day lately. It IS nice to be able to do a lot by remote control.
  18. It takes a lot more time, but I don't think you will regret building it. I suggest you get the right tools. If you build your own, you will wind up with the advantage of knowing the platform. The down side... it makes the addiction stronger.
  19. And, if you do have a problem, Primary Arms' customer service is exceptional.
  20. To me, the big advantage to a trust is that other members can possess the weapon. When I jump into NFA, I'll do a trust.
  21. Good luck talking him into that.
  22. He's already healed up. Just left a knot on his head :-)
  23. I posted this on facebook this morning under the Dumbass of the Week heading. He'll get some sheeple votes, which was the real reason for the drivel.
  24. You should have known. That wasn't his regular limp :-)
  25. I spend a lot of time and money on my AR's, but I like my "real" guns too. I have several, with brand names and everything . I would sell one of my AR's before I would sell one of my Brownings.
