From what I've read, the military uses 1:7 to stabilize the L-110 tracer round. There are very few loads, like the 77 gr SMK, that won't be stable in a 1:9 twist and still can be loaded to mag length. Twist rate is about bullet length, not weight.

Just don't forget that the gas block gets real toasty.

It is for a weird caliber. .458 SOCOM brass is 78 cents apiece.

Midway has reasonably priced brass too. Getting into the caliber isn't that expensive.

I would think that it's the DA's judgement with a homicide. If I had that job , I may ask for (or demand) a standing policy... If there's a homicide, get the gun. If it's SOP in some jurisdictions to confiscate the evidence, it might be safe to assume that the DA has checked the statutes.

I use the latest Lee hand primer. The safety step is a pain, but only a minor one. It works fine if you hold it right.
