You might dig through the boxes of used holsters at your local gun store or at tables at gunshows. $30 won't buy the material for a decent leather holster, let alone a finished product.
I may have to get me a Greg holster, if I can talk him into it.

Tim, Thanks again for your posts. I've had great interaction with the RSO's, even the "crabby" ones. I wonder how some of the complainers would handle that job. I know how many inexperienced shooters show up on the weekends. I actually had to load magazines for a shooter and his brand new Glock. It's a high stress job. Just to add to it, the RSO's have to communicate over everybody's hearing protection and other gunfire on the line. I'll defend those folks every chance I get. I try to show them a little sppreciation when I'm there too. They don't get enough of it. I showed up there one Friday with a buddy, a couple of my AR's, and somewhere over 500 rounds of Wolf already loaded in mags. With the exception of a few cool-down periods, we shot until we ran out of ammo. The RSO's got a kick out of it, even one of them that tends to be pretty terse. Seems like once they identify you as a shooter, they lighten right up

I guess if we're gonna have it out, we might as well get to it.
I will be sure to check her out, OS! Thanks for the info! That is the type of holster I am looking for. The cowboy holsters are bit too flamboyant for me. I wouldn't mind a cross draw though. Mikegideon, that is a great looking pistol there!
Thanks. They have a pretty good holster selection in the Midway site. Not all cowboy style... Down side... it only weighs 9.5 lbs. Bet it has some serious recoil
The case harden Ruger New Vaquero looks and feels like original Colt, but has coiled springs. I used two in cowboy shoots in 45 Colt. I would go with the New Vaquero in 4 5/8" or 5 1/2" barrel in 45 Colt. These are fixed sight revolvers. The Ruger Blackhawk has adjustable rear sights.
If I was going to shoot matches, I would most likely get a New Vaquero. I'm just gonna be range piddlin'.
And he can do it with an original 1873 SAA.
... for 28 grand Of course, he'll rig an exploding target for you the first time you shoot it. I would insist on a plastic midget full of Tannerite.
I would love to have a cowboy gun for nothing more than a range toy. My problem is that I want my copy of a SAA to be DA. Unfortunately the only manufacturers that do that are foreign; so not an option for me. I keep hoping Ruger will do the Vaquero in DA, but I’m not holding my breath because I’m sure they would take a lot of heat.
I don't know what to say. Maybe this doofus will make you one. The Italians have been at it for awhile. I have a couple of friends that are real happy with their Italian clones. I also have some black powder load data on the way. Might as well belch some smoke while I'm shooting it

I know the Blackhawk is a great pistol. I'm only gonna get one single action, so I want it to be as close to a Peacemaker as I can get, without paying Colt's price.
I think the Hombre model is still available from Academy. I don't know if it is available in .45LC, but I know that the .357 variant is priced less than three bills.
Yep. It's available at Bass Pro too. Kinda has a ratty finish. I'll probably go with something sexier. The girlfriend has upped the budget. It's not a US Firearms budget, but there's enough money to get a decent finish.
About a month ago I was seriously jonesing for a Ruger Vaquero. They are beautiful handguns. Decided to focus on a .357 model so as to not deal with another caliber. Still haven't found one at a price I can live with. I would recommend getting one of those.
I wrestled with it quite a bit. The Vaquero is an option, but not a true SAA clone. If I was gonna improve the SAA, I would probably just get a Glock . Haven't ruled it out completely... just leaning the other way.

Welcome to the Politics and Guns Forum . It's my favorite place on the Internet.

I have had a hankering lately for a single action revolver, specifically a replica of the Colt Single Action Army. I have done some reading, and am leaning toward the Uberti Cattleman line. It needs to be chambered in 45 Colt. I plan to reload the caliber. The girlfriend has decided to get me one (with my help) for Christmas. Since she'll be springing for it, I'm going to be more concerned about price than my normal gun purchases. I may even get one transferred if I can't find one locally. I've seen some six guns in some of the local shops, but have always ignored them. Frankly, this thing will be a toy. I plan to shoot it some, maybe even a lot. I still won't have any practical use for it. So... who in the Nashville area has a decent stock of six shooters? What are your comments on buying one? Other brands? Any other guidance? BTW... I'm not interested in a Blackhawk, and only have limited interest in a Vaquero.
Has anyone tried one of these? http://www.midwayusa...prep-multi-tool I've been studying on getting one for light duty crimp removing and pocket cleaning.
I figure it's gonna be pretty good. The Lyman brass prep kit (the one with individual handles) seems to stay sold out. I wind up processing too much brass to use muscle powered tools. The Hornady reamer bit seems to get the best reviews for removing crimps, but will screw right into the Lyman handle. Probably doesn't matter much if you're doing low volume stuff. I have right at 3000 Lake City 5.56 cases. I really needed to come up with fastest/best.
Seems like I get more bang for my buck with the Trim Mate center, yes?
I will probably wind up with one myself. Just get the Hornady reamer bit too. It works better than the RCBS bit. You just have to be careful to keep the case straight with the Hornady bit so it doesn't shave off any of the primer pocket wall.
