Optics for shooting l-o-n-g
mikegideon replied to JW3Percent's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
Pricey... I was talking with one of the guys behind the counter at the Reloader's Bench. Costs him 3 bucks/round reloaded WITH his discounts. More expensive than the 50 BMG. Still, really cool caliber. -
Here Linky Linky. You're gonna have to come off your wallet and pop for an MSSA membership. :)

PMAG! This really simplifies the AR 10 hunt for me. Not trying to sound like a whiney bitch, but it really is time for Magpul to come out with an effective recoil pad for their stocks.
-
I know this one guy that will probably NEVER get caught without an AR again
-
A lot of folks that are buying right now are the ones that just didn't get around to it before. They waited because they believed AR's would always be available. This isn't just a panic. It's a real threat that could STILL result in a ban. I'm not sure you'll see a big selloff if the threat goes away. It's just too real this time. I also believe that the buying will hold out longer for the same reason. Supply will eventually catch up with demand if a ban fails. But, I think it will be a long time before you have a bunch of folks that think "I can always get one tomorrow".

I'm getting ready to build a long range bolt gun. It won't be a 338, mainly because of the cost of ammo. With that said, awesome round! I have some general guidelines for ME in my optics hunt. You obviously want a reticle that's good for ranging, and turrets so you can dial in your dope. Here's my feature list... Windage and elevation turrets Side focus First Focal Plane reticle Horus reticle! As much power as I can get, variable Got my eye on this one, but haven't made a hard decision yet... http://www.midwayusa.com/product/435543/bushnell-hdmr-elite-tactical-rifle-scope-34mm-tube-35-21x-50mm-side-focus-1-10-mil-adjustments-first-focal-horus-h59-reticle-matte -
There's a story of a deer getting stuck in that big hydraulic on the Chatooga. I forget the name of the rapid, but it's the same one that swallowed the movie camera. It's one of the highest class rapids on section 4. I just looked at the list of rapids to refresh my memory. Can't remember which one, but probably Deliverance Rock. There are a few class 5's. I remember some of them being classed lower back when I was doing it. Maybe people break more easily now then they did in my day :)

with information. Investigation A large quantity of unused ammunition was recovered at the school, along with three semi-automatic firearms found with Lanza: a .223-caliber Bushmaster XM-15 rifle, a 10mm Glock 20 SF handgun and a 9mm SIG Sauer handgun.[18][17][19][61] A shotgun was found in the car Lanza had driven to the school.[19] At home, Lanza had access to three more firearms: a .45 Henry repeating rifle, a .30 Enfield rifle, and a .22 Marlin rifle.[11][62][63][64] The weapons were legally owned by Lanza's mother, who was a gun enthusiast.[65][66] Police said Lanza used the Bushmaster rifle against most of the victims. According to the state's chief medical examiner, H. Wayne Carver, many of the victims were shot multiple times with the same "long weapon"—the Bushmaster rifle.[4][67][68] Under Connecticut law,[69] the 20-year-old Lanza was old enough to carry a long gun,[70] but too young to legally own or carry handguns.[71] -
The Chatooga River gorge is the border between GA and SC. The Ocoee is all in TN

Why Is Adam Lanza’s Documentary History Missing?
mikegideon replied to mcurrier's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Shame... ain't it? -
Our regular outfitter guided the movie crews. I know some of the whitewater stuff was shot on the Chatooga. I can believe they were shot in both places. I think the Ocoee is moving a lot more volume. There was a period of time when the river was shut off and diverted through the flume and powerhouse. The whitewater folks lobbied to get the river opened back up for rafting. The powerhouse stops producing when the river is flowing. I think the movie was shot during the period when the river was diverted full time, but not sure. Gotta dig.

According to a buddy in VA, this guy had his law license revoked, and then got it back. A true POS. -
I thought all the filming for Deliverance was done on the Chatooga. There's a movie camera at the bottom of on of the rapids on the Chatooga.

It was a tragedy for everybody, and a great opportunity for some. But, why would these caring commies manipulate the information? They have been so honest with everything else, like F&F and Benghazi. -
Yep. You're gonna get wet. I'm sure they'll put you in a wet suit this time of year.
-
Actually, my dad did all those rivers in his 50's. I watched him come out of the boat in the middle of Sock-em-dog on the Chatooga. In fact, he wound up smimming a few notable rapids. He never got banged up, but did get a nose douche or two.
-
I've been down a few whitewater rivers in rafts. The Ocoee is my favorite. Just lock your foot under the seat in front of you. Falling out is about the only danger. The rocks are somewhat hard. There should be a guide on the raft to steer you through the rapids, and usually safety boats (kayaks). You'll be pretty well padded with your helmet and vest. I've only been out of the raft once, and that was an unguided one. Went over Nantahala falls upside down (not our fault BTW). The safety boater tossed me a line, and had me out of the water pretty fast. It's a blast

Wire for target scope crosshair
mikegideon replied to graycrait's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
We keep tanks of nitrogen to pressurize transmission lines and waveguides. They're too big to carry around, but holler if you need a source. I have enough to blow out a few thousand scopes. -

How do you get the Nitrogen back in the scope so it doesn't fog? I took one apart when I was a young 'un, and agree that repairing a reticle probably isn't a big deal. Installing the little windshied wipers after it's full of humid air is pretty tedious, though. :) -

A lot of us are on Facebook, and battle liberalism every day. My Facebook friends list includes a bunch of TGO members. There is a lot of sharing between TGO and Facebook too. What I'm sayin'... get busy G. You can be my friend :). I know Tulip is already out there. :) -

Ignoring the numbers for a minute, they are making life long enemies all over the country. When Sandy Hook fades away, those enemies will still be there. Those enemies will be lobbying against them long after the media takes on another cause... years after. As painful as it is now, this could wind up being a cancer for liberalism that lasts for decades. We just don't need to let OUR crisis go to waste. -
They're not gay enough either. Here...

Or the pelvic jewells. That will ball 'em up to where they'll fit in the trunk of your Toyota. :)
