  1.   Agree. I'm thankful for Obamacare every day. It distracted them from doing a lot of irreparable damage. It will eventually fly apart. The gun laws would have probably had more staying power.
  2.   Maybe it will gin up a good enough cloud of fumes to launch that mower into the next county   Get video!
  3.   Yep. It's a helluva lot bigger deal than some folks want to admit. It baffles me more now than before the war on guns started. Every major attack on gun owners across this country has come from Democrats. No amount of Gary Johnson weed is gonna help if those assholes gain majorities.   At least one of their favorite predictions will finally come true. There will probably be some blood in the streets.
  4. I can't say it in public, Charlie, but you KNOW what I'm thinking.   :x:

I use the 512 series Eotechs when I can. I do try to keep lithium AA's in them, because they're not as prone to leakage. It's my favorite red dot because of the circle dot. Can't beat the availability of AA's.
  6. I hate wasps, and keep my eyes peeled for them. With that said, yellow jackets are the ones that wind up getting me, twice in the face. Maybe it's because I slap the hell out of them when they land. Not the worst sting out there. They just seem to get it done, maybe because they're a little faster than other wasps.

I'm helping a friend with his first build right now, and that's exactly what we're putting on his rifle. PA M3 is out of stock.

The Chinese optics are perfect for range toys. I have a Primary Arms M3 on one rifle, and an Aimpoint COMPML3 on another. It's hard to tell them apart at a glance. About the only difference is that the Aimpoint will get brighter. Both come on, and both hold zero. BUT... if something ever comes up where I have to DEPEND on the rifle, I'll grab the one with the Aimpoint (out of those two).   I don't put backup sights on a rifle with a real scope. They just get in the way.   EDIT: BTW, I bought my Aimpoint from Primary Arms. I'm guessing the owner runs an Aimpoint or Eotech on his go-to rifle. He didn't tell me that... just a guess.

I have the Magpul MBUS rear sights on all my rifles. I buy them because they're light, cheap, and they work. I might get something a little better if I ever actually shot with irons. I don't. They're strictly for backup.   There's a little more to the selection of a front sight. The Magpul won't work on a railed gas block. It's too low, and it will melt. There are a few metal flipup sights that are designed for gas block mounting. I have a couple. One is from Midwest Industries, and I don't recall who made the other. I do have one rifle with an MBUS front sight that's mounted on a Daniel Defense railed handguard.   Optics... most folks settle on Eotech, Aimpoint, or one of the many cheaper Chinese sights. I have all three, but I'm an Eotech guy. There are threads out there that deal with the Eotech vs. Aimpoint selection. There is no consensus. I'm not a big fan of the Chinese sights, but they'll work well, even for years until you can drag up the money for a quality optic.
  10. The Universal doesn't use shell holders. That's the one to get. Only complaint I have is there's a knack to getting the lid back on the primer tray. It wants to snap in pretty hard, and can flip a bunch of primers when it does.
  11. The newer Lee primer is a turd. It did OK for large primers, but I had a problem with small primers flipping on me sometimes. It happened enough that I replaced it with the RCBS.
  12. I have the Lee XR and the RCBS. The RCBS is MUCH better. Built like a tank. Mine has the universal shell holder.
  13. Sorry. I would HAVE to light it. It's just how I roll :)
  14. Of course. People from the south are drunk and illiterate. Killin' is what we do :)
  15. There's your trouble :)
  16.   I didn't know that. I thought it was for standard race baiting and douchebaggery. Oh well, guess it doesn't matter now :)
  17. That didn't happen over one summer, right?

    Gotcha

I get it... or got it. We use it a lot in my world. It means, you can stop explaining now, I understand.
  19. I killed a nest with plain old hornet killer. I started back some and worked my way closer. Used the whole can, dumping most of it in from real close range. It was right by the front door of my house, so I know it was dead. Some of the nests can get pretty big, but my guess is that it's not one of those. They would have perforated you last year.
  20. BTW Lester... Gibb's effect is a factor, 'cause it will increase the peak voltage of the pulse. It will also round it off so classic surge protection has a better chance of grabbing it. It's also the reason I use multiple stages of surge protection in my facilities. Big clamps on all the panels, and local clamps at the gear. You want some series R&X in there somewhere, and the distribution wiring provides some.
  21. Recon this was one of the big boys?   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FUUCiRAp-hM
  22.   Is there any real engineering to back it up, or is it just more DC fart gas? You know, the gov'ment used to have an EMP generator for testing stuff. A physicist friend of mine actually saw it up close. Have they ever made one of the big boys fail in a real test?
  23. Electromagnetic Pulse... EMP. It is an electromagnetic field, sort of like a radio wave. It's called a pulse because of it's rapid onset, and short duration. Since it's JUST a magnetic field, the math behind it's behavior is very well defined. When you put a wire in a magnetic field, the field will induce a voltage across that wire. The amount of voltage will be determined by the strength of the magnetic field AND the length of the wire. It gets a lot more complex when the wire is hooked to something. A pulse is not a radio wave, but it is. If you look at the pulse in the frequency domain, it's made up of many different frequencies.   Different frequencies move from point a to point b in different ways, and those factors are complex. But, there's one fundamental mathematical relationship that applies to ALL frequencies. As you move away from the source of the electromagnetic field, the strength of that field varies inversely with the square of the distance. In other words, if you double the distance, the field strength decreases by a factor of 4. This is plain ole physics, and happens no matter what. It is the baseline, and any frequency dependent decay of the field happens in addition to the inverse distance law.   Most semiconductor devices (chips) are low voltage devices. It doesn't take much excess voltage to make them fail. A lot of those devices can be killed by static electricity, and static control measures are common in electronic assembly areas. Once they're in their circuits, it's a whole nuther ball game. They will survive for decades. In fact, when a piece of gear like a computer reaches its end of life, it ain't because of the chips.   Speaking of computers, they are all shielded from electromagnetic fields. All the wires entering and leaving the box have some filtering on them. They didn't do that because some guy wrote a book. They did it to meet FCC minimum interference requirements. Just like the way a wall attenuates sound, that shielding and filtering kinda works both ways. That nice sharp edge that OhShoot was talking about isn't going to be there on the other side of that wall.   Now, the changing shape of the pulse will also work against you. In a lot of cases, the filtering can stretch the length of the pulse so it can kill devices the old fashioned way. Every point in every circuit is going to react a little differently. Some electronics are gonna get killed. The point I've been trying to make... a LOT won't. It's like throwing a turd into a fan. You just don't know where the freckles are gonna land. You just know that there will be some freckles.
  24.   ...and a big enough fart will derail a train. The devil is in the details.
