Shorter is a whole nuther animal if you feel like putting up with the long wait. I just never could see the advantage of that 1 1/2", and giving up my ability to do anything on the barrel assembly without taking it to a smith.
-
The high speed match. For your gun, the SSA-E is IT. Just giving you some crap :)
-
Other than going 16" for all the obvious reasons, should be plenty of good choices out there.

Can't argue with this, other than the fact that a 50 may make my internals fail too. So here's my disclaimer... the cheapie scope I posted will get you shooting accurately at long range now, but shouldn't be your final purchase. It's good enough to shoot at 1" dots at 600 yards, and in my case, I dialed in my elevation from a computer printout, and hit the 600 yard steel on the first shot. Again, it will get you shooting without having to save for months. Not saying you should stop saving.

The more they offend, the more chances they have to win the instant justice lotto :)

You done good! My second favorite Geissele trigger

Here's a cheapie scope that works real well. I have one... http://www.midwayusa.com/product/962234/bsa-tactical-mil-dot-rifle-scope-30mm-tube-6-24x-44mm-side-focus-glass-etched-mil-dot-reticle-matte Look at the reviews

You need to read up and watch the videos on the Geissele high speed line. There are three weight ranges, with the second stage being continuously adjustable within its range. Same mechanism with different trigger return and disconnector springs. If you can set that up, you can compare the High Speed and SSA-E on my rifles. I really just need to get some velocity readings and set my gas blocks on the first outing. There's probably gonna be too much computer work to do after that to try to whip up an accuracy ladder in the field. I still have to measure fired case capacity too. Since I have two different barrel lengths, I'm going to do my best to find an optimum charge weight load that fits both guns. Being able to drive all my crap to a shooting bench, and not have to deal with a firing line schedule will be real helpful. Won't need much range at all during the first session. Well... at least not until we decide to haul out the blaster AR's and have a little fun :)

The Geissele High Speed Match is the best AR trigger I've ever felt, and I haven't even adjusted mine yet. I put an SSA-E in my second Grendel, only because I had it. It's not near as good. Bill approached that trigger design as an engineer. ALL my money is on him. You are going to give up something if you try to make a single stage work in an AR. Too much violent stuff going on in the action. That 2 stage feels like a 1lb trigger, and doesn't give up any hammer force or lock time to get it done. http://geissele.com/hi-speed-national-match-match-rifle-trigger.html

That's the deal. If you want a hand lapped, air gauged barrel without breaking the bank, Savage is it. Another thing Dolomite said on the phone last week (paraphrase), "6.5mm bullets are magic". I'm starting to play with them on the AR side. I'm betting you'll love that 260. I wish the Grendel had that much powder behind it.

Don't drop that sumbitch on your toe :) It has a little heft I think the dam finally broke. Word is that there are new source(s) for bolts. Both of my barrels showed up a day apart. Last I checked, Midway had two versions of Stoner barrels in stock. Looks like yours is showing up early

Dolomite! I've seen a Savage with a drop-in Shilen match barrel. That was a helluva shooter.
-
I killed a 223 varmint rifle to build the second Grendel
-
What caliber? The Grendel is the only thing I've used match grade barrels on.
-
Here's the other gun with the LaRue mount. Another piece that I have thought was way too expensive in the past. In this case, it allows me to share a $1000 scope between two rifles, with a guaranteed return to zero...
-
The JP stuff is real high quality AND expensive. I think it's worth it, but the barrel by itself was 100 bucks more than the Shilen match barrel.
-
Hanguard is seperate. It's a really nice handguard too.
-
Here ya go. The JP handguard is only 2"... http://www.jprifles.com/instructions/JP%20THERMAL%20DISSIPATORS.pdf

None that I know of for long range. JP's roots are in 3 gun. I can see where it helps if you're pushing lots of lead. Drawing heat away from the throat is good for barrel life. It was just a 75.00 add, so I did it. Looks pretty cool too. BTW... the Grendel is still supersonic at 1000, but isn't the best caliber for it unless you're shooting longer barrels. It rocks at 800
-
Yep. Heat sink. Weird barrel profile. I'm anxious to see how it shoots against the Shilen.
