  1.   You mean like a 22-250?
  2. A .223 necked up to a 30, and then saboted back down to a .223. That makes my head hurt :)
  3.   What a coincidence. David had an M2 on his table yesterday. Damn things are everywhere
  4. I'll be honest, I haven't played with it. My IT guy did, and he said it sucks. May be great on a tablet. I just do a lot of work on my machines. They should at least provide a mode to lock all that crap out.
  5. it's hard to do any of this on a budget. I don't really have any interest in organized shooting, so I just play. No rules except physics.
  6. Here's the deal... Obama is all butt hurt because he didn't get his way with gun control. He blames everybody but himself. My avatar memorializes that day. Now, all his Hollywood buddies are scrambling to his aid because the NRA KICKED HIS ASS.   Once again, the Divider in Chief works his magic. I'm just waiting for the day when those folks realize that THEY, not the cops or military will have to come and get the guns themselves. I'm not saying that I'll shoot a fat man right here on the Interwebz, so y'all will just have to speculate what will happen when he comes waddling up my sidewalk.
  7. So... you upped the juice a little, eh? :) Nobody said the .308 is outdated. In fact, I prefer the 30-06 between the two.
  8.   Me was a turd. It was Windows 98 with cartoons. Win2k was the NT core, and was much more stable. We were already using NT on high reliability machines, like audio playout servers. It just wasn't as desktop friendly as 98.
  9.   Don't have to read it. I agree. I've spent lots of time looking at the caliber too. You have lots of variables out around 1000. Some bullets handle the transonic region better than others, which actually starts earlier than the speed of sound, at around 1300ish FPS. That Federal Match load I plotted is down to 1200 at 1000. 1000 yards is a stretch until you up the juice a little.   My Grendels will be supersonic at 1000, but they're gonna do lots better at 800.
  10. But, the vertical scale is magnified by a factor of roughly a factor of 50. And, the shot is zeroed at 1000.
  11.   Yeah well... I don't know why he couldn't shoot through the bird AND hit the target too :). Even though the bullet is slowing down, it's still supersonic, and the trajectory is damn near flat. If you draw a 308, 1000 yard trajectory TO SCALE, you probably can't see the shape of the arc. Figure it like this... your barrel is only up 35 MOA or so, which is roughly HALF a degree.
  12.   There was a lot of luck in the shot. I don't care what he won. Shooting a crow on the fly at 900 yards had some luck mixed in.   BTW... I didn't doubt you for a minute that he did it. I really did kill that rabbit.
  13. There was much rejoicing when they came out with 2k. Before that, I had I guy put Me on a few boxes, and I told him I would fire him if he did it again. You just can't count on M'soft to come out with an enterprise ready OS. Like I said, we completely skipped Vista. That means we wouldn't buy any hardware, desktops or laptops, that didn't have a set of XP drivers.    By the time they fixed all the crap in Vista, it morphed in Win7, which is fine. I expect they'll fix Win8, since I believe it's the same core. They just have to get it business friendly. By the time it's fixed, it could turn into Win9.
  14. I killed a rabbit with a Daisy BB gun once. It was probably 20-25 yards. Not sure I could do it again.
  15.   XP was just Win2K with cartoons.
  16.   Really? :)
  17.   Sounds like you're fed up with Libtards. Have some tofu :)
  18. .3-.4 MOA is great accuracy. That's up there with some of the good bench rifles. You do have to be careful how you specify that kind of accuracy. 5 shot groups are tougher than 3 shot groups. The LB rifle linked above ships with a target with two 5 shot groups, guaranteed to be within .5. If you have a gun that can print .3" groups, but not all the time, then it ain't a .3 MOA gun.    I haven't talked to my friend Froggy in awhile, but his criteria was 10 shot groups. That shakes out all the luck. Of course, you have to be a good enough shooter to make the shots. I accused him of being able to kill a squirrel at 500 yards with a 1911 :)
  19.   Nah. The new kick is evil corporations, and the need to steal their money and give it to burger flippers and liberal arts majors.
  20.   Most of my boxes are still on XP
  21. I can't think of any heavy O type presses that won't outlast their owners, including the heavy Lee Presses. They'll also all make pretty good ammo. The only time to move away from them, and into a Co-ax or an arbor press is when you're trying to get better than average bullet runout. The bonus with the Co-ax is that it's a joy to operate.
  22.   I'll quote Dolomite again..."6.5mm bullets are magic". If I was shooting an AR-10 platform, it would most likely be chambered in 260 Rem or 6.5 Creedmore. I'm just starting to play with 6.5 Grendel in the AR-15 platform. So far, I'm just focusing on the 123g Lapua Scenar. Those things just don't wanna slow down.
  23.   Right! Windows 8 really does suck. We're holding on Windows 7, which is just fine. If fact, I like it a lot. We passed on Vista as well.    When it comes to Linux, we're only using it on some embedded platforms, where we never really see the OS. Those boxes are as stable as it gets. With that said, I don't have enough anarchist in me to try to use Linux on a day-to-day machine. I use a good version of Winders, and keep it patched and backed up.
  24. Just a heads up... I was talking with our very own DLM at the gun show yesterday. If you do decide on the best single stage press in the world, the Forster Co-ax, they're scarce as hen's teeth right now. David has 3 in stock, and may be the only guy in the US that does. My regular sources are dried up.
