    I have been real fortunate, as many as I have built. There IS a missing C clip somewhere in my dining room. I launched it when I was installing a dust cover. It's even harder to find than a spring and detent.

    Looks like it's just a variation of fiberglass, except the resin is activated by water. Maybe a spin on Gorilla Glue. Anyway, it could be great stuff when you need it.

    The bent part is weakened, and closer to breaking than the rest of the spring. And, there may be some binding on the buffer as well. May not be enough to cause any malfunctions, but...
