  1. Maybe I did read it wrong. They probably never said anything about OC but honestly I'm too tired to go back looking. Like I said not a big issue just curious.
  2. So I have noticed several people posting about how when they first get their permit they go to Wally world open carrying. So what gives? Not trying to bash anyone but just trying to understand why it seems like an accomplishment or why is it done. I can understand about being proud of getting your permit and enjoying carrying a handgun but it almost comes off as hey look at my new toy. I don't blame you for packing at that place it attracts all the upstanding citizens.

You'll be fine. The Department of Correction academy isn't a police academy or boot camp. Most people I've known that started in corrections before Patrol said it was easy. Just try building your physical fitness up now and never give up at the academy.
  4. The photos don't have to match. I believe the policy for DOS is if you go in for HCP application or renewal in person they must take a new photo. As far as the speeding most drivers don't pay enough attention to notice an officer or don't understand way the radar or lidar operates. If you believe you are innocent take it to court. Yes on some systems the registered owner of the vehicle's license info pops up after running registration. There comes your HCP link. I don't personally care if someone has a permit on my stops I don't even ask about it.
  5. Richie I recommend getting some good OC Spray for dogs. It won't cause any permanent damage but boy it will make them run and scream like crazy. I've had to use it on some landsharks myself. Even if you miss them usually the strong smell and it flying towards them is enough to scare them. I carry Freeze +p so I can testify to it. As far as a baton man those things are just there for looks. I have never once struck anyone with mine in 8 years. It's main purpose is to break windows and pick up stuff that rolls underneath the car. lol
  6. The reason why it is so expensive is State traffic tickets are heard through General Sessions court. The court cost and fines are higher. Municipal courts are capped at court cost and fines. I would say you are probably at a younger age I say do the traffic school and be careful next time.
  7. Strel you don't have a clue. You jump on here basically accusing them of being racist or profiling and saying they have no education. It has already been pointed out TWRA officers are formally educated and also trained Law Enforcement Officers. Somebody who doesn't provide acceptable identification when being charged with a crime can't be cited and released. Regardless if they are Caucasian, Hispanic, or Vietnamese. I have seen a Vietnamese man arrested for fishing offense because he couldn't prove who he was so shove that dumb idea about them targeting Hispanics out the window. You don't like the law complain to your lawmakers not about the Officer doing his job.
  8. That show someone talked about with the license plate scanner and boots was about parking authority. Those people had racked up parking tickets so they put a boot on them. The license plate is legal to run all day. I run plates occasionally while out and about, you would be surprised how many plates are stolen or on incorrect vehicles because people don't want to pay the registration. I've had people try to argue the plate situation but when I explain the reason why they seem to calm down and understand. Not everybody who gets a paycheck from the government is out to take your guns or make you sheep.
  9. Oops guess my selective reading missed the "dis" in disqualify. Pay me no attention.
  10. Daniel I sent you an invite still reading pending. I believe my name is under M0F0 now with numbers for color codes in between.
  11. I know several reserve officers who don't wish to become full time LEO. Mainly because they have a decent civilian job that pays much better with less stress. The Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act (used to be HR 218) doesn't apply to reserves per our State Attorney General. Here is the link to opinion if you wish to read it. http://tennessee.gov/attorneygeneral/op/2005/op/op29.pdf
  12. Play mw2 on PC. PM me if you want another jerk on your steam list.
  13. Only time I OC is if I'm on the job in plain clothes ex. admin junk or court. Other than that its concealed waiting to be tagged in the game.
  14. I would have to double check but I believe P.O.S.T. mandates initial 80 hours of training for any reserve law enforcement officer. Most departments require more than this. You will have the same authority as paid officer but your status for going armed under the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act is still a gray area. They are working on a bill to add part time and reserve officers for carrying nationwide. Check you PM for more detailed advice.
  15. No biggie. Guess we can let you live lol.
  16. How is not appropriate to ask if there is a weapon in the vehicle? You can choose whether to be truthful or lie about it. As far as asking for consent to search, if you don't want them to search just say no it's not that big of a deal and doesn't mean the end of the world. Don't be offended if an LEO asks for consent it doesn't mean he believes you are an murderer.
  17. The wording other insignia will cover the seal. But that's very odd to just come out say remove a emblem when no one is trying to impersonate an agent. I'm sure there is something going on.
  18. 39-17-1351 (e) 1 and 2 deal with exception from the class for law enforcement officers. As I said before that's for law enforcement officers which he I believe he was referring to. Not really a big deal but 3 and 4 deal with armed security training and military training. It won't cost anything to ask about out of state POST certification to waive the permit class but I would put money on a no answer. Go to the class your wife will enjoy doing it with you and maybe you earn some brownie points to cash in later.
  19. According to TCA if I read it right you would have to be POST certified in TN or have attended the academy in TN to be exempt from the DOS approved handgun permit class. Here is the code if you wish to read through it. 39-17-1351 (e) 1 and 2 deal with exception from the class for law enforcement officers.
  20. Maybe if you knew more than just making statements you would know that being in the country illegally is a violation of Federal Law not state law. As in most states your police officers are only able to enforce State, County, and Municipal laws/ordinances. That is what Arizona was trying to do make it a violation of state law so officers could enforce it. Yep I run into illegal immigrants a lot and can't do a damn thing to them for it not because I don't wish to prosecute but because I can't. Here in Davidson County the jail takes part in the 287g program if they determine someone is illegal they hold for ICE. But it is up to ICE to make sure they are deported.
  21. Did the law say anything about stop and detain someone because they appeared to be Hispanic? I don't recall ever reading that, maybe it's what the scary libos are trying to pass but that wasn't it. What I found it to say "Stipulates that a lawful stop, detention or arrest must be in the enforcement of any other law or ordinance of a county, city or town or this state." That means I have a lawful detention of a subject but he doesn't have any form of ID other than lets say a Guatemalan card and doesn't have a social security number. CLUE! I would then check immigration status, since I believe all US citizens above a certain age have a SSN.
  22. Unless they have changed the bill in TN the last I heard was it would make it mandatory for the jails to verify immigration/citizenship status. There was nothing in the bill I viewed about police officers/Sheriff's Patrol Deputies detaining or questioning anyone because of citizenship.
  23. I don't know of any particular defined statute regarding O.C. spray/pepper spray. But most times that civilians have used it basically equaled simple assault or was in defense. I tried to think of a easy way to describe and maybe this won't make sense but I think it's clear. If you believe you are in immediate danger of an assault or being assaulted you should be fine to use spray in defense. PS It usually works well on dogs too. If you are out and a dog leaves their property to come after you give them a shot they usually go bury their face in the dirt.
  24. Unfortunately some operators of radar/lidar don't use them correctly or maybe weren't properly trained to begin with. Now that is out of the way just some curiosity kills the cat questions. You said the position he was at he couldn't have gotten an accurate reading. Are you saying his position was so that there was a large cosine error or what exactly? If you have used any decent radar in the past 5-10 years you know they can show two readings IE. one vehicle and faster moving vehicle. The whole thing about stopping two vehicles at once alone I don't like and will probably never do because it's an officer safety nightmare.
  25. How is it that little runt hasn't caught a well placed shot in the head yet? I doubt it will happen but if it does, this will start the end all war.
