I don't ask people if they know why I stopped them. I may ask them for any particular reason why they are speeding or blew through a stop sign at 20mph. But asking them "you know the reason I stopped you?" is a way get them to admit some infraction. I mean it would only matter if you plead not guilty and request a trial for the ticket.

Maybe my post didn't clearly state that I believed there was no "cop bashing" from this thread. We are government employees and should be held accountable.

No pressure from the department to write tickets. If you look at the city's budget you see revenue generated from traffic school or tickets doesn't really have a big influence on the budget. Sales tax and property tax on commercial property is the big money. You could write nothing but warning tickets and nobody will say a word. I do alot of traffic enforcement but it's typically dangerous moving violations. I also like to give a fair amount of warnings out too, I look at driving records on DL most times. Our city has a high number of crashes, if i investigate the crash and find one person to have caused the crash due to a violation they typically get a citation.

I know they have different types of licenses like helicopter then commercial. Then most places want x amount of hours in jet powered or whatever it's called. I would suggest if wanted to stay flying is after service applying to be a civillian pilot for like METRO PD. They pretty much can fly daily racking the hours up and training. And he wouldn't have to be a low payed cop who puts up with crackheads lol.

Most times I've seen any case about a self defense shooting it was typically easy to see the evidence to support that at the scene. Doesn't mean it can't change after some investigation is done if stories and evidence don't match up. As it has been said before I would probably atleast say something along the lines of this subject was attempting to "whatever" I was in fear of my life. I wouldn't just lock up and not say a word but I wouldn't just confess every sin I have committed either. I have a card to call if involved in a police shooting and an attorney responds immediately so I can't say I would blame a citizen for doing the same. But I wouldn't become a prick to officers or investigators just follow commands upon officers' arrival so nobody thinks a suspect is armed instead of the victim.

Last I read there were approx 900,000 LEO's in the U.S. considering local, state, and federal levels. There are always going to be bad people or people who make stupid decisions no mater what profession. Even if we were to see 100 cops being stupid or beating somebody that is not even close to 1% of the total. So believe what you want about anybody in general your opinion is your own to have. I don't really see any cop bashing but only showing the small fraction of wrong doings in the media gets old quick! But showing a video of a cop doing his job and being polite wouldn't bring viewers so it won't be shown on tv. One of the officers was found not guilty. I believe he was the first of four to be tried in court. They were all terminated from what I read from another story.

Thanks, but myself and most officers don't need a thank you for doing a job we love. I would ask you to pray for the families of the lost officers this week honors regardless of anybody's opinion of LEOs.

+1 You had to go there.... lol

I gotta vote for the Stang. I would almost feel I would have to turn my man card in when I bought a focus. Accorse I don't have kids and don't put alot of miles on my personal vehicle.

That suspect was lucky to be alive after going for an officer's gun.

Are Lanyards on our carry guns a good idea?

I don't know that any of the possible pro's would outweight the cons of it being either in the way or getting hung on something when I need to draw my weapon. I wouldn't use one in the field until doing some training with it. -

Vandy is private property, I hope they all get locked up. They need to get jobs and take showers. -
Showing a picture of a small puppy instead of the current picture reminds me of the Ziimmerman/Martin photos.

Hendersonville Man Cleared of Charges (Follow-up)

I think he had good intentions but a stupid plan. He got lucky he didn't hurt anyone. -
Unfortunately your fighting on an uphill battle. I see you said something about child protective services, are you talking about DCS? They would be the first step in filling a complain for an investigation. As far as the firearm even if she didn't have a HCP it's legal to have the firearm in her property as long as she isn't a felon. But if you wish to contact TDOS to voice your concerns over her having a HCP then you should contact them. Now her mental status if you believe she becomes to the point of threatening or attempting to hurt herself or others then she needs to be examined either voluntarily or involuntarily. A LEO has the power to under certain circumstances to involuntarily commit someone but they have to meet the criteria. It sounds like you are a good person and are trying to right for others but until she crosses the lines she is able to do certain things as she pleases. Good luck and it doesn't hurt to contact DCS and see if a case worker has been assigned to that house and just have a chat with them. Voice your concerns and do what you can. Good luck

Don't think this is how the "stand your ground law" works

I like to be fly on the wall during the voir dire of the trial. You know it will be heavy with one race if they are really trying to make him a media relations conviction. -

I figured as soon as the feds stuck their nose in it there were going to be charges. -
He is a court security officer at the Davidson County General Sessions court. If you have ever been there they are the ones that wear the light blue shirts. He isn't LE so he doesn't have any police powers just a security guard. I would say he is done and probably be looking for another job soon.

I think you mean driver to exercise due care. Basically it's a cover all that states every driver must drive with due care to avoid collision and so on... It's a ticket not an arrestable offense so no jail time maybe 3 points max on your license if you pay it and they go away after 12 months (the department may not even report it). The fine probably isn't that steep or you could probably do traffic school. Ask the court clerk of the department you received the citation from. You could attempt to fight it but you as the driver are all times responsible for your vehicle if you couldn't stop in time that means you were travelling too fast for conditions. Just look at all your options and make your decision.

OK, I found it. I figure they have probably been flooded with requests for the tapes and probably just put them online so they don't have to physically make copies for each request.

Freedom of information. Yes, 911 recordings along with any paperwork are public record but sometimes may not be released immediately due to a pending investigation. I looked over their website and didn't see anything about the 911 recording.

lol good stuff. We ask our motor officers if they make the boots they wear for men also.

Yes seeing a person armed is enough to conduct a stop. Would be the same if you were seen open carrying and stopped by LE once it has been determined your HCP is valid and you are legally carrying the detention should be ended if there is no other reasonable suspicion or probable cause to extend it further. He legally stopped you now maybe I wouldn't handled the stop his exact way but he did conduct a lawful stop.
