Disarmed in a traffic stop
Pain103 replied to tennessee01tacoma's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
The joy of Monday morning quarterbacks. -
Some computers can send text messages through their wireless broadband cards. The computer is assigned a telelphone number. I have a laptop hooked up to to verizon wirelss broadband that does this. But I don't know how or if it could make actual phone calls.

ticketed/towed away for parking in front of a garage?
Pain103 replied to Sam1's topic in General Chat
With it being private property without being handicap or fire lane violation the company will have to do the towing the police won't be able to touch that. Talk to the management about who is there designated towing company for violator vehicles. They may be already told/authorized to tow the vehicles of people who are in violation of the complex's parking rules. -
Which sister... lol

I wouldn't recommend carrying without one ready to fire unless you have done extensive drills with your firearm. I mean so many it becomes pure muscule memory because when it hits the fan and you lose your fine motor skills it could be deadly.

It never fails if I just dry cleaned and pressed my uniforms and put a nice shine on my boots I end up tromping through woods or mud. Even worse is when someone fights and I get rips in my uniform or a broken nameplate. I can't stand my uniform to be nasty so I change fairly quick if possible. I've always told the new guys sometimes it's those small encounters that make big impressions on people.

I've done simmunitions several times and love the training. You learn from your mistakes quickly. The only issue here I don't like is having the people bring their own firearms in to use. I would have to use only the range sim guns. If there is a way for somebody to screw up, it is going to happen.

Nice knife but don't waste the beer! How much does that thing weigh?
There is no federal speed law. The last one was repealed in '95. - OS
Good call. I stand corrected.
-
I'm sure that's a state highway so that wouldn't suprise me but you will never see a raise of the speed limit on the US highways or interstates until the Feds say so. They would probably lose federal road money if they raised it without approval or whatever they do. I think 70 is a decent speed people already can't drive and do 85+ so raising the speed limit also raises that threshold people think they can do before getting stopped.

Suggestions on home defense shotguns
Pain103 replied to jwinter's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I've had both Mossberg 500 and a Remington 870 you can't go wrong with either. I carry my own 870 daily in my patrol unit so I'm really used to it. But I would trust either in protecting my family for home defense. Just gotta take care of them and they will last forever. -
Marine Corps helicopter pilot sues over Wyo. traffic stop
I'm not like most people on this forum. I think that the law enforcement profession is 90% power tripping wanna be heros, and 10% decent people.
That's a pretty ignorant statement unless you know all 100% of the law enforcement officers in the world and could prove that. You are entitled to you opinion but it would be like me saying everyone in East Tn are crazy. I can't prove this and don't believe they are but it's just a blanket statement like yours made of discontent and opinion rather than fact. Oh well the world moves on whether you like the police or not but the cop hating bandwagon gets old. -
Having worked many of deer crashes and avoiding them nightly my advice to anybody is be aware and look ahead. Look beyond the short distance immediately ahead of your vehicle. Sometimes you can't avoid it just slow and don't swerve off the road.

Mom leaves HCP class, takes gun to school

The link JHC posted says she took the class the night prior. Even worse. -
What is this thing? Mobile big brother?
Pain103 replied to Hi Point Hooligan's topic in General Chat
There are no camera speed enforcement units in Davidson County. That is a camera trailer placed in certain spots occassionally due to crime. I see you mentioned Nolensville Rd some crazy stuff happens on Nolensville Road. Probably only be there a short time. So much for the revenue generator ideas. -
Metro Nashville amendment 3 - Sheriff
Pain103 replied to monkeylizard's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
It was their solution in response to the lawsuit that the Sheriff's Office doesn't have the power to enforce 287g. Ozment sued saying it should have been Metro PD not the Sheriff doing the program because they aren't LE. The County won the lawsuit but proposed this change to avoid future suits. I believe Don Hall just terminated the 287g program, i may be wrong but that's what I heard. But they will probably taking over courthouse security and maybe some other functions they haven't done before. -
I couldn't find any statute about killing domestic animal other than poisoning. If the dogs weren't on the guys land I would have went afterwards and sworn out a warrant for allowing a dog to run at large. TWRA shouldn't have been involved unless they were hunting dogs.
-
See TCA 44-8-408 dogs can't run at large. I would think if you can show you were in fear of serious bodily injury from a dog attack (which is very likely) using deadly force on a dog is ok. I think the breed of the dog will make a difference. A Jack Russell doesn't quite put the fear in somebody as a larger breed does. OC spray seems to work very well on most dogs and it's only temporary.

Metro Nashville amendment 3 - Sheriff
Pain103 replied to monkeylizard's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
It will add the wording in the charter to have in writting the authorization for the Sheriff's Office to perform the courthouse security and other functions. It doesn't authorize any law enforcement power. They don't have law enforcement powers and won't have any while there is a Metro Charter. I could care less about them providing the security inside the courthouse because I know they won't be any better trained than the security guards they use now. But the ability to utilize 287g and the DNA tests are great. I wish they would just revoke the Metro Charter they have gotten this bighead because they are a metro government and forget they are only a city/county government. -
Firearms confiscation. How would it go down?
Pain103 replied to timcar86's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
What will happen is me and my buddies will fly around in black choppers we keep hidden behind the police department and land in every neighborhood kicking in doors looking for donuts and guns. <-sarcasm in case you didn't know it. Every few months some over paranoid people get this stirred up. This will not happen atleast any time in the near future (our lifetime) and wouldn't work. Also if by some crazy chance this were to happen I don't work for the federal government I work for my city. So federal components can not command state and local law enforcement. -
We have a wireless router but I use the ethernet cable to hardwire my desktop in. I don't want to any issues. Although I've never had the issue with a signal not reaching in a normal size house you could always have two routers.

I'll be getting it again this year. Deal with too many germ heads to not have it. Also it's free.

Shooting West Nashville - gun sale involved
Pain103 replied to midtennchip's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I prefer doing any private party transactions with members on here who have some background. I would be a little more leary with a person who just started their profile. But either way unless you know someone very well you should always have that survival mindset and keep your guard up. The idiots these days will rob you for anything. -
Legal question, "kidnapping," answer needed ASAP, tonight, please!
Pain103 replied to Steelharp's topic in General Chat
From what little information is given, I assume, the temp custody order gives the father custody of the child until a hearing is scheduled to determine the facts and a judge to issue an order. It isn't considered kidnapping in Tennessee if a parent is involved it is called Custodial Interference. If the child was taken to deprive the mother who has legal custody of the child then it would fall under that statute. But if he has secured an order of the court then it would be legal.
