Yeah I was worried about thickness for cutting a slot. If I could get my gas tube off it'd be on its way back right now!!!
As an aside for small tool bits, I've had really good luck with my Wiha micro bit set. It's a bit pricier than other kits, but the tool steel that Wiha uses is good stuff, and doesn't bend or snap as easily as the cheaper bits. The one I've got is kit #75996. It normally goes for about $90, but it's on sale for $70 from: http://www.wihatools.com/700seri/759_microsets.htm. Plus, you can buy the bits individually (either to replace one, or to add others to your collection).
Yeah the set I have is cheap and may be why it fits but slips. That's a good tool set to have

If all else fails I thought I could file a flat spot and turn with needle nose pliers. But I'm gonna try to hear from Kies first.
what about vice locks? Clamp them on and unsrew it. No need for drilling.
Not enough clearance to grab and turn without hitting the block. Already tried. Plus it slips on the threaded surface.

I don't know I'll have to look but I have to think smaller since the pins are usually smaller
Why don't you go to the store and get another allen wrench?
It's so small they aren't available. Like micro. I'm gone now but I can post a pic another time. It's 25% of the smallest one available at the store

If I thought I could drill it out and use a standard roll pin I would. But I don't know how hard the set screw is or threads in the block are. Why couldn't they just use a standard pin????

So if it's not one thing it's 10. I bought a Kies adjustable gas block from joeboboutfitters. It came and little did I know that instead of a normal gas tube roll pin, it's threaded with a set screw. Seems ok. Well the screw went 3/4 in and stopped, then I broke the tinny allen key trying to get it to go further in or come out. So now here I am with a partially installed tube. Can't take it off and use a different block.....stuck and frustrated. I have attempted to contact Kies but it hasn't been enough time for them to respond yet. I do have a small square driver that will fit but it slips. I'm at a loss for what to do.
This may sound like blasphemy, but I was finally able to try some Pappy 15yr the other night at Hennen's in Chattanooga. It was distinctive, but I can't say it was better than Weller 107. Even if they carried the same price tag. That said, I'll definitely give it another go if I see some and I would like to try the older varieties as well. Oh, and if anyone knows where to get some Weller 12 anywhere around Chattanooga or Knoxville, please let me know as I've been wanting to try some.
I have a bottle of Pappy 15 ie yet to open, I'll have to try and review McScrooges on Cedar Bluff had Weller 12 a couple weeks ago.

Walmart Maryville had a wood stock carbine for $234. Hard to beat that price....so I bought it ;)

As long as that's a true testimony of a good visit, no worries, good on you for sharing. I may actually stop by and see what they have.
Get a carbine and take the band off. It's not required. :) Or get a OEM wood stock. - OS
Yeah that's what it's looking like is the best option. I think the longer barrel is more desirable than anything I'd like to have the 18" barrel. And for about $210 you can add about any stock you want and be under the $350 the sporters seem to be going for.
It would probably be worth a call to Whittaker's in KY. They will almost always have the best price if they have it and they usually have as much stock as anyone, but they go through it fast. You can also send them a PM on Facebook as sometimes that is easer as thier phone's can be hard to get through on. https://www.facebook.com/whittakerguns
I've sent them 2 messages about models in-stock. They have 41 10/22's and none are the models I want. Basically I want a wood stock without the barrel band.
-
Must have been a good deal cause it sold. I saw one at the gun show today for $330 +tax TICS, and thought that was a little high. Didn't try to haggle though, probably should have.
-
Well, the Sporter is only higher because of the stock, so I guess the shape it's in determines whether it's worth it. Btw, Ruger doesn't currently show a Sporter in stainless, but guess they offered it in the past, or it's a distributor exclusive maybe. - OS
Yeah, there is dealer exclusive through Lipsey's. Condition appears like new. I sent him a message, we'll see if he replies.
