1.     yep, best to plan ahead, otherwise driving may be your only option.  My BIL decided he wanted to go hunting last fall, but decided too late and we couldn't find a class with available seats until after hunting season was over.
 2.     I bought a case of this and paid $20 a box for it.  The problem is its gained popularity here amongst the crisis.  Id say it will come down, but it will take a few more years and few million more buyers to enter the market
 3.     I considered it for sure, but I like the 'under-the-rail' gas block style.  plus they are rare as hens teeth, as you know
 4. He panicked from a situation he provoked. He should have stopped, shut off the snow machine and waited. If the moose can closer, plan for evasion, not continue to approach. Moose are not agile creatures. You can get behind a medium size tree and the moose won't be able to turn around it to get you. Side step the tree and you're safe. And at that point if the moose continued I'd shoot it. Seems he didn't give the moose enough time to go away. Now I'm not going to cry over one dead moose, but I hate to see life needlessly expired.
 5. For those interested I did determine the Allen key was .028" Anyways I tuned the gas block today and it performed great. Overall I'm pleased with the value in the purchase. Sent from my iPad using Voodoo magic
 6. So I went to the range today and ran my AR15 after the changes I'd made. I also had a buddies AR after helping him install a free float. So I was switching between the two using two mags. I fired all the rounds loaded, packed up and headed home. I cleaned my friends gun prior to return and was casing up mine. Of course being the kid I am, I couldn't resist the urge to turn the Red Dot on and do some target acquisition. I was about yo flip the safety and dry fire, then I stopped. Said "wait, check this gun" No mag, check. Rack the bolt.....shit. Out pops a round right onto the hood of my wife's SUV. NEVER FORGET TO CHECK YOUR GUNS ARE CLEAR!!! Saved me from sending a wolf FMJ through my steel basement door and most likely into my truck radiator parked outside....and that's a best case scenario. Sent from my iPad using Voodoo magic
 7. So I just picked up my first weapon mounted light for a pistol. It's a Surefire X300 on a G21. I went to the range today and ran a couple mags through the gun. As you can imagine the lens was covered in gun powder residue. Now it wipes right of with a little elbow grease, bit is it common practice to remove weapon lights when just doing standard target shooting. The 500 lumens would have still been bright but if in a real multiple-mag shooting that thing could get pretty cloudy. Sent from my iPad using Voodoo magic
 8.
and elusive 36 grain Federal 36 grain .22 bullets.
Elusive?? I bought two bricks last week ;)
 9.
Glad you got it figured out! I looked at those gas blocks but looks like ill stick to my go to blocks BCM/VLTOR or Seekins if I need adjustable
Actually I'm disappointed in my Seekins block too. After bing installed and tuned for about a year I went to remove and the brass screw that holds the adjustment screw in place, stripped. So I can't operate it correctly. Sure I can turn the adjustment screw and add loctite, but the brass screw is supposed to prevent that. Also I don't like that the bras screw is on the barrel nut side of the block. Makes it vary hard to loosen for gas adjustments. If I buy another it will be SLR DA7 Sent from my iPad using Voodoo magic
 10.
I think he meant, "Brass ejected about two feet away, right where it should be."
Well that makes sense. Ya know reading comprehension and all that
 11. I haven't ever shot for the low mark. I've always tried to push the envelope without breaking the sound barrier. Did the bolt lock open after the last round? What do you mean brass is 2ft right of where it should?
 12.
That is awesome! Really liking about everything that bad boy has got going for itself. The gas block aligning with the rail like that is just too cool. Looks really great man, sweet job.
Thanks man. I'm gonna go punch some paper in the morning. I'll post a review of how it performs
 13. Update Here is the new product. Rainier Arms Mountain Series barrel 1lb 9oz MI Gen 2 SS Rail Kies Adjustable gas block YHM QD mount flash hider Total weight is a little over 8lbs. Most of the weight is back in the stock. I can hold and fire with one hand now. Really happy. Also please with the rail and adjustment screw line up.
 14. Well back up and punt. After getting home this evening I took a pair of needle nose vise grips and was able to back the screw out. Still befuddled I drove the gas tube out and reinserted. I feed the set screw in from both sides by hand and appears to go in smoothly. So I threaded in by hand and used the vise grips to get it as far as possible. I then used a small section of broken Allen key and vise grips and was able to get a few more turn. This left about 1/16th of the scene sticking out. So I had a decision to make. Back the screw out and mail it to Kies, or leave it as-is. Well I chose option 3 ;) I filed the remaining 1/16th off flat and I'm going to put a spot of JB Weld on both sides of the set screw, effectively making it permanent with the tube. Considering the block was $34 and shipping rates it didn't seem worth it to mail it off. If I do t like it later on, I'll drill the screw out and salvage the tube. I will post pics tomorrow and hopefully rounds down range.
 15.
see this is the reason i stick to milsurps they tend not have as many problems :usa:
This was really a problem created by try to fix something that wasn't wrong. Are gas tubes a pain in the butt? Yes. But they're not impossible. If I'd known it wasn't a standard fast tube pin, I'd probably have passed
 16. Got a phone call from Travis at Kies. He said if I'll send the gas block and tube. They'll ensure that I get the same tube or equal returned installed on a new block. He said there may be a thread but or something locking the set screw in. I'm gonna make one more attempt and getting the block off and if no joy I'll just mail it to them.
 17.
And that's why I have 2 in my bathroom and don't take a shower until my alarm is armed.
Exactly. I will never again (if it's in my power) live without an alarm system. It's a truly great asset. No one comes or goes with your knowledge. Even when disarmed our doors and windows chime when opened.
 18.
Okay, I'll try a couple more.

I'm assuming there is a small section of wrench left. Can you use visegrips and clamp on the end of the wrench enough to use it as a makeshift allen wrench? If so, choke up on the wrench as close to the end as you can so it's less likely to twist into again.
It's hard to tell in the picture but if there is enough threads exposed could you find two nuts that fit the threads and screw them on using one as a jam nut and then unscrew the set screw?

Yes there is small section if good wrench left. I'll try the vise grips first. The set screw is so small I'm not sure about option 2
 19.
If it's just a matter of a broken Allen wrench, is there enough of it left to use some heat and bend a new 90?
No need for heat, just bent it with my fingers. But after that it just twisted like a candy cane.
 20.
The screw would be easy enough to remove with some needle-nose pliers without damaging the threads. BTW, I see you have you hammer ready. When all else fails beat it!
That's my motto. "If it doesn't fit, get a bigger hammer"
 21.
The smallest hex keys I have in my kit are .035" / .89mm .050" / 1.3mm Looking through my kit, I found a spare .035" hex bit (I think I accidentally ordered 2 at some point in the distant past). Anyway, it's been sitting unused for years; It's yours for the asking.
I really appreciate that. I'm going to let it simmer for a day, look at it again this weekend and of I can't find a solution I may get that from you.
 22.
Sure it's Allen and not Torx, right?
Yep allen for sure. I'm not sure you can fathom how small the key was. Hence why it broke so easily. I was turning away, the screw stopped and I didn't realize it, twisted the thing right off
 23.
Hrm... ok, asking the stupid question: If the setscrew is tight, and the tube is tight... is there a problem with just leaving it the way it is? Have you tried both standard & metric allen keys?
Well it's through one side of the block, through the tube, and barely in the other side. Just as I wouldn't partial drive in a roll pin, I'd like it all the way in. Would it function as-is, most likely perfect. I haven't had much chance to try options. It came with a supplied key. It's so small I haven't actually found another for purchase. Although I'm going on a search tonight.
 24.   its in JC so I wont see it again until Friday evening.  I even made extra sure it was all lined up perfect.  if I had a proper fitting allen key, its probably back out.
 25. So I was thinking, I have the little nut driver that fits in the set screw like NashvilleStage pictured above (only cheap).  It grabs but slips when a certain torque is applied.  So I though about putting some JB Weld on the key, insert into the set screw and let it cure over night.  Then see if it has enough grip to either romve or drive in the rest of the way.  If it would go in, Id just dremel off the key and leave it as permanent.  if not I could get another set screw or drill and put a standard roll pin.     Ive read on the internet how easy these go in.......damn my luck
