  1. true, but most cyclist dont ride on 65MPH+ roads, I would venture to say 55 is the most common, I dont think your gonna get pulled over going 20 in 55.
  2. You say "everybody is expected to keep up with the flow of traffic." "Expected' and "legally bound" are two seperate things. Too many times when driving vehicles we assume everyone should travel at the same rate of speed. I do it, when somone is driving excessively slow in the left lane, etc. But the questions is where do we derive the notion that we have a right to get angry at them for traveling at their own pace. As I stated before there is no MINIMUM speed on city and rural roads. There is a pedal near the floor that is rectangular in shape, its called the brake, we all know how to use it, and it would hurt us to use it a little more often.
  3. what astounds me is the portrayal that the speed LIMIT is the speed MINIMUM. 55MPH means at not time can you legally exceed that speed, no where does it mentions you cant go less. I ride about 15-20mph depending on my current condition and road grade. Most of you drive slower for longer distances through school zones and dont throw bottles and honk at the little kiddies. after reading this thread since my last post, my blood pressure is up. Too bad I cant got hit the road today!
  4. YESSS! I love it when they swerve at you, that just makes the ride some much better! Luckily I have never had a miror to the kidney but I have felt the breeze ever so close many times. and it doesnt matter if we pay wheel tax or any other, the law says we have a right to be there and thats the safest place to ride 15-20mph. The way some people act you'd think they get stuck behind cyclists EVERY day, but no, maybe once a month but whos counting. The funiest thing to me is that people think because your on a bike your weak. They feel tough in their big bad car and the truth is quite the opposite. Not to mention I still carry when riding
  5. +1 me too, I mean Im not writing down your DL number, height, weight, and eye color. I just want proof your a TN resident. Erik, if a store asks for ANY info just tell them "I dont give that out". My wife says it everytime at VS, J Crew etc. They use it to send junk mail and sale notices to you in the mail. PS it doesnt bother me to show ID, sometimes I wonder if they actually look at the DOB, usually just a fast glance and thats it.
  6. I dont buy everything Alex Jones spews, I hear him make wild assumptions off the top of his head just to further his points. However I do believe that we have the capapbility to be the largest Oil Supplier in the world. The first video only speaks to the North slope of Alaska, since then they have discovered and oil field as large or larger in the nortwest North Dakota and Eastern Monatana. Not to mention its believed to be light sweet crude, which takes less rifining than other types. Its there we just have to go get it. We are at least 50 years away from truely using alternative fuels as a sustainable energy source, if we dont get more oil in the mean time, we are headed for tough times. PS I am extremely skeptical about Lindsey Williams consistantly unamed sources. A few names and other first hand accounts would go a long way. This "for their protection" shiite is gettin old. If its that important, let's hear it. but i still believe whe have LOTS of oil, on and off-shore
  7. Deleted, double tap
  8. When we say "fitting", most can be done with sand paper and a stone file. Sometimes a more aggressive mill file might be needed, but no high tech machining. Now if you plan to transition from a GI grip safety to a beavertail, that will require some more metal removal and expertise not to jack up the frame. Go to 1911forum.com and browse the gunsmithing section, you can find out a lot in a hurry.
  9. Well said^^^^^^^
  10. I have DM Bullard bodyguard. Nice holster good workmanship
  11. I don't disagree with you, but to say the union and pensions MUST stay, is not the answer either. My suggestion was to start changing the pension structure. Once there is no pension fund for union leaders and politicians to toy with, it will change the game.
  12. With fair market competitive wages she probably would, or more. But the union forcing salaries for underserving, underachieving employees is not helping your wife's case.
  13. I think it all depends on your ability to gunsmith. If you are good and can fit the slide and frame, etc, then yes buy a good frame and just build one. But know that the frame and slide are gonna take a lot of work to get fit right. I think you would be good to buy a Springfield mil spec, the switch out the internals, grip safety, MSH, bushing, sights, finish, and have a custom gun at your pace.
  14. Again, the message is lost, I appreciate teachers, I even support higher salaries for those deserving. Apprecition and compensation do not always go hand in hand.
  15. I still don't understand the pension argument. Why do you want a government plan to control your future retirement. If you planned and contributed to a 401k plan you would have MORE money, and you could chose how it's managed. Plus I really don't think anyone wants to jerk pensions from those who were promised that as part of the jobs. But why can't we switch to a normal (private sector) retirement plan, pro-rate the pension according to years served. I know a lot of you are married to teachers and I think they, for the most part, do great work. But the idea that they work harder than me and get paid less therefore they deserve a pension, just seems silly.
  16. So get them a higher salary. I'm all for them being adaquately paid, but the system is going broke because we are an ever growing population needing more and more teachers, and if we contiue to pay pension plans where is it gonna stop. If you had all the money your paid in union dues in her career, invested in a matching 401k, you would be far and above better off without the tax payers paying the bill. Im underpayed too, my wife is in school and I dont get a pension. Im not trying to portray an "its not fair" attitude. I want you and your wife to get all you can possibly get your hands on, but if we have to continually raise taxes to support the system. They system needs changing. Now the transistion is the problem, we cant just cut off those who were promised a pension, or have worked half their career without a 401k. But to just continue as-is is going to be detrimental to the states budgets.
  17. i love how "due process, employee rights and collective bargaining" are all in the same sentence. They act as if school teachers are an opressed people. They have the same rights as every other red blooded American, if you don't like it get another job. I appreciate their work, but to buy in to the fact that the public tax payer has to fund your salary for 30years AFTER you quit working is ludicrous. why can't they just offer a 401K matching plan like every other buisness ,if you're lucky (some offer nothing). I can stomach collective bargaining for salaries, but pensions is unacceptable. Not to mention in some states union dues are automatically deducted and sent to the union, which in turn a precentage is used to fund political campaigns. How is that not money laundering, when you're a polician appropriating a budget knowing that a percentage is coming right back to your pocket?
  18. I agree that the situations are vastly different. But even in Cartes examply I would have verbally announced that the beating cease as I was dialling 911. You cant even beat a criminal to death in broad daylight. You can hold him down (getting in a few good jabs to the face) but thats about it. I agree with Greg that my utmost focus is on my wife and myself or anyone else who may be out with us, but I have never been one to sit by and watch a beating (after highschool anyway) without some sort of action. Now a one on one fight is different, two dudes brawling in a bar parkinglot can fend for themselves but anytime you have 2 or 3 on 1, chances are its not gonna end with everyone going on there merry way.
  19. it would work but like he said in the video "honing". It will take a slightly dull edge back to sharp but if your knife is really rolled, you will need something harder or more that 8 storkes to get it back to sharp. I have never been that desperate that I had to use my car window. Take the money you saved on power windows and buy a knife sharpener.
  20. it very well may be. can you try flaring less and work up until the bullet will just barely sit in the brass freehand.
  21. I stand by my original post. I have known a few Federal Agents, 2 former DEA, 1 current US Marshall. I am not afraid of them or any other for that matter. my concern is for the woman or man that is in trouble. By approaching you will know really fast who is who. If its an officer they don't just open fire when drawn upon, they have protocol to follow. I really don't believe your life would be at high risk. Although you do assume a certain amount of risk anytime you intervene.
  22. My Hornady manual suggests no crimp for jacketed bullets. So I would say your good to go, as-is.
  23. I agree with Red5 on both posts. I would have cleared leather and approach loudly proclaiming that he stop or I will use deadly force. Anyone who is innocently "filming a movie" or otherwise will make no hesitation to stop and explain. I dont recomened anyone start sparying bullets upon the appearance of a situation. but if a woman is on the ground being tazered, I am going to present my best option of helping the woman and thats my firearm. It can easily be reholstered without actually firing any rounds after the BG either explains or flees. Edit: Sorry for some echo on Lagerhead, not quick enough on the trigger
  24. I believe the problem was in recoil spring weight. Its the same recoil design used in the sub-compact models now being used in the compact size. I think all of these issues have been fixed and no longer should be a concern.
  25. Summer 2012 So when they start pumping out these electric cars, whats that going to do to the electric grid? Not to mention your electric bill. Most of the countries electric is produced by coal fire which will be regulated into oblivion before too long.
