What do I need to do to legally sell a rifle to a friend?
Lumber_Jack replied to a topic in Long Guns
well he didn't kill any one with the gun did he, and he was right there with the gun own him with the police right . that would make a big differance I would think. The police where not at this home when this women's husband was shot and killed. My point is there was no paperwork to link the gun back to me. Remember a bill of sale is a link both ways. Without a paperwork trail the only person they can find is the original 4473 buyer, and even then all you'd have to do is say you sold the gun. Sure they may search your house but unless you committed a crime they aren't going to find anything. -

I sold a pistol to a guy who three weeks later illegally (no permit) carried it into the county courthouse and was arrested. No one kicked my door down, BECAUSE, they didn't care where he got the gun. He had no priors when I sold him the gun. Just an old guy that didn't mind the rules while paying his taxes one day. Ask for ID, ask if a criminal, take money, fondle money, go home -
Plus I like, while traveling, being able to go to a convenience store and get a 16 or 24 oz can of craft beer without having to buy a six pack.

Seems a lot of the New Belgium line-up is in cans now. Fat tire and Shift I've tried. Seems unchanged from bottles. I think it's a much better option for "no glass" venues than the plastic bottles domestic mass producers use.

best carry caliber for hiking, wildlife protection
Lumber_Jack replied to Maestrorr's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I'm just gonna havta go ahead and disagree with that notion. Many wounded predators wouldn't even slow down when in attack mode without heart, lung or brain being damaged. Bear Spray is light and easy to carry. And effective on most critters I suspect. And a heck of a lot easier to hit a charging target! And less likely to get you in trouble with Wildlife Officials and the general public. I'd carry a Handgun in addition, but it wouldn't be the first thing I'd reach for if I saw a Bear. Well we'll just have to disagree then. Cause I stand behind my statement. And you won't have any trouble out of wildlife officers if your being threatened. I know plenty of them. Have your permit, carry your gun, no issues. -
I could be a real good golfer by the time this ammo drought is over...or not, but better anyhow

we used the carfax report when replacing my wifes SUV after our recent accident. Most seem pretty accurate, but surely not perfect. I cant fathom the thought of the depreciation a new car takes when it leaves the lot. Ive never bought a brand new car for this reason. However I have bought used cars with remaining factory warranties. People trade cars all the time just because they want to, not because there is something wrong. Plus if something is major wrong it will ususally present itself before the warranty expires. We did purchase an extended factory warranty with my wifes SUV that takes us to 100K miles, maybe not a good value if we dont use it, but with one repair it can pay for itself. Its all a gamble. As to the original story and video, I wouldnt think its the salesmans job to dig into the vehicles comprehensive background as the News guy suggests. Hell the only reason they offer carfax reports is because eveyone expects it now. Believe me, theyd be just as happy NOT showing the history in most cases.

It's ford vs Chevy. I've ran a Sthil 440, 460& 660 and the Husky equivalent to the 440. All will do the job. Personally I like the way a Sthil disassembles vs a Husky but that is mostly for tree felling and cleaning. For your application I'd buy the biggest HP saw you can afford and do work!

This is a situation where there is a chance of brass failure on high pressure loads and already weekend brass and that was translated through the interwebz to read "ALL GLOCK BRASS IS UNSAFE AND WILL EXPLODE ON CONTACT WITH HUMAN SKIN" if its factory loaded brass just inspect it for bulges around the case rim. I'd wager to say its all fine. If you push the max load just go slow and look for case bulges. If you follow proper reloading etiquette and start low and move up slowly there shouldn't be a situation where a case is blown open.

What barrel did you buy? Or did you have a custom one built to order? I bought one from Alpha Shooting Sports. Here is a link http://www.shop.ar15hardware.com/300-Black-Out_c44.htm It shoots great. I have done any super precision testing but its accurate. I killed a deer with it last fall

Just curious what I would need to turn it down to. What brand gas block do you run and would you recommend it or something else? I use a .750" Seekins Precision adjustable block on my 10.5" barrel. It works great. http://www.joeboboutfitters.com/Seekins_Precision_Adjustable_Gas_Block_p/skn-agb.htm

You need Skidder tires. Call your local John Deer forestry supplier and ask. I'll check around and find the likeliest source. Tires of off-road earth movers/ bucket trucks would work too. Same source. Caterpillar or John Deere

you missed the point, YOUR refers to your vehicle, not a company ride. It is MY truck....sort of. It's my only vehicle. Still, even in my wife's Land Rover, we don't have rules other than "wear your seat belt". Plenty of food and drinks consumed. I don't know anyone who smokes, but my wife wouldn't let that happen, I could let it slide if the windows were rolled down.

Wear your seatbelt....and that's about it. It's a company truck, the new wore off 234,000 miles ago

Haven't I also seen you post that you re-load? If I did, I'd probably own a 10mm too. Being a guy that buys ammo at Academy or Wal-Mart, I just can't see going the 10mm route right now. I've got too many work/family/other activity obligations that keep me from spending additional time on this hobby. As it is, I'll just stick with a 9mm or my short and weak 10. Yes I do reload for sure. It's a huge component in shooting 10mm, unless you're rich. -

I'd say....either Chances are, any projectile contact with an animal will deter its attack at least enough to buy you some escape time. Me...I carry a G29(10mm) with a G20 magazine. But I'd say I spend WAY more time in the woods than the average man. -

This is correct. We generally don't even look at tracts less than 20acres. And can't personally recall us managing anything under 28acres.

Lester, your statement about lumber prices vs log prices are true. When was the last time you saw a logger driving a fancy new truck and living in a big house?....not very often. Another problem guys would run into is how the logs are scaled. You're at the mercy of the mill as to how much they pay. And the logs are too heavy to drive it all over to price shop.
-
Well unfortunately most mills are not interested in one tree, simply because there is no profit to be made. By the time they pay the labor to cut and haul the tree all profit is gone and probably be in the red. Does the tree have value...yes. But it's very difficult to extract that value when you only have 1, and it's so labor intensive to fell. Also I would bet a substantial amount of money that the trunk is hollow in the center. If the tree was alive and well I wouldn't say that, but since it has died, it's a very likely scenario. I would call tree removal companies and get quotes. There is easily as much value in firewood as there is in lumber. Maybe call some landscaping type places that deal in firewood and see what they say. Otherwise you're probably just gonna have to pay to have it cut.

There is a saying in cycling, "it's not the bike, it's the engine that matters“. Exactly. I've been smoked by 60 year old guys on 80's bikes. Fred, let me know when you wanna go, it's always more fun to ride with other people.
