1. a good flat stone and follow your angles it is like sharpening 2 chisels nsharpen each angle then draw across the flat edge to remove the burr   use a sharpie to see if you are at the proper angle, we used to do them all the time at every sail loft I worked at some upholstery shops have a jig to use they may do yours for a small fee
2. 1.76% Yes 98.24% No  I like these numbers now I can get back to my Dillon and enjoy my evening :)
3. Mail him home in a "Diplomatic Bag"  via Chinese Junk heading west from Baltimore.
4. Hatchers Notebook shows a study done  setting off various ammo by its lonesome no encasement of shell no bullet leaves  brass blows out and bleeds off pressure..   Bulls hite  is the correct call...   someone didn't want to fill out lots of paperwork so a "there I was standing at the counter..." story came to life.
5. Thanks Bob,   too bad no extra credit for X count... LOL   maybe next revision
6. a photo ID ??   so if you change an upper or rescope you have to submit another pic ??   funding the ATF  where is it coming from ?   can almost picture the line of shooters holding their ARs in line out the Po=Po station down the block across the parking lot waiting for picture taking day     Seriously ???   I am sure some of this is just "bargaining fodder" intended to be stripped away to protect the actual goal but to plant seeds for the next "incident" induced legislation..   John
7. for wad fouling I have found Brake Parts Cleaner will dissolve it nicely.   carbon well thats a brush and scrubbing...   also a mop with some 2000 sandpaper will burnish the barrel nicely giving future fouling less to stick to
8. According to the website Hendersonville is only 35 ft. ??
9. 30 minute ban to teach you a lesson,...   stop reading those "alternate wolrd" sci fi books...   but if it wasn't so troubled a future that might have been funny...   I do give you credit for your creative writing abillity...   John
10. Reloading setup $ 150.00 components $ 100.00 (or so per 1000 rounds) 2.5 to 2.7 grs. Bullseye behind a 148 WC   wife loving shooting   Priceless
11. Sometimes they are faint  and hard to see but every 12 my family owns ( 5 ) have the numbers just in front of the loading port   perhaps a tracing paper rubbing or  a dusting with cake flour would raise something and is easy to remove when your done.   the geeky ones go for a pic and switch the colors to negative via photoshop   Hope you find it  a call to Winchester may be in order if it doesnt work out   the really old "Model of 1912" looked almost hand engraved and really stylized but shallower then modern stamping   John
12. as long as it isnt a "Low Numbered Springfield"  google that for the serial # ranges... should be fine    Low Numbered rifles have brittle receivers and should not be fired.   John
13. 240 Sierra JHC  loaded @ around 900 FPS avg.   ( accurate #7 and worked up for my pistol )  great for Bowling Pins out of a 5 1/2" single port compensator 1911   10mm is a whole nother addiction especially for reloaders  135 Noslers (1500fps)  all the way up to 200 XTP @ 1150    either way you go .45 or 10mm  plenty of energy to go around.   John
14. it is common for Highpower rifle and NRA Bullseye to use smaller targets to simulate a proper range sight picture   I recall someone saying that G&L Hendersonville wasn't a long enough range to hold classes but with recent developmnents in Greenbrier perhaps they got the OK to use a smaller target to simulate the proper distance required for the course thus the "7 ring to count" which might work out to the proper target size at the proper distance ( larger target further out ) so they can still hold the classes while they rebuild.    I am sure when G&L Greenbrier is back up that will be normal targets and hopefully if this is the reason they will continue classes in both locations.   Just my thoughts, John
15. that is the serial number it is located the same place as a Win 97    should be the same number twice as it comes apart just in front of the receiver , I am pretty sure all 12s come apart in this manner and only the '97 had a solid frame version.   http://www.mchenry-sc.org/Engineering/Model_12.htmhttp://www.mchenry-sc.org/Engineering/Model_12.htm   I use my 1929 production 1897 for crows and occasionally squirrels but no longer waterfowling because the required use of steel shot would possibly harm the barrel of these old timers.   John
16. Looks good,.. add your 2 stringers (side rails) and either lag or cleat to the wall and your ready to rock..might also consider a pegboard back to hang tools not in use as you will accumulate them as you progress..
17.
The classic kit comes with the Pro disk measure, and I am looking at bumping up to a 2'x4'competition bench. Is a 3/4 hardwood plywood top enough for the press to mount too? Also how do you mount your presses to the bench? I am looking at over hanging the plywood because I have a 2x4 running the outside edge of the bench. Do I need to put an extra support under the plywood? I am not wanting to drill through the .703 of the plywood and the 3.75 board... I would leave about 3.75 over the bownext frame and put a 1x4 under it to spread the force if needed....
you dont want the press to move or bench to flex, I would put 2 2x4 stringers going from front to back and bolt through them after securing them to the front and back rail and bench top so you are looking at some 5" bolts so 2 front bolts through table edge 2x4 and each rear bolt through a stringer. I have even seen a bench that had an upright leg directly under the press between the 2 stringers but that might be a bit much.
18. if you are planning on loading rifle you may want to widen the bench to 3ft. to accomodate the trimming etc. and Bolt it to the wall you develop lots of leverage with resizing those cases counterweights only go so far to counteract leverage away from the wall. not sure 2x2 is enough for the press, scale and room to work you might consider 2 ft deep and 4 ft wide ( case sorting, inspection, primer tray loading etc. ) but everyone has their ideal setup I have seen folks load on a 1x8" board bolted to a kitchen table and the scale etc. on kitchen counters I planned a 2ft. deep by 12 ft. L shaped bench with Pegboard and overhead shelf/lights mount for all my shooting workbench needs but it resides only in my mind and on paper plans for now. John
19. so they can say the "Closed GITMO" and look like they are actually doing something other than bringing the poison closer..
20. the knocking down/back works until you consider Newtons Laws action/reaction.. multiple hits causing hydraulic loss that take time but shutting down the brain is instant though it is a harder target than COM and as some have stated there are too many variables to say one round will work better than the others energy is energy and enough to end an engagement is good but getting to the next level be it compared to a rifle or shotgun or a howitzer isn't going to happen with todays ammo in a handgun as much as I love my 10mm,.45ACP and my .38 Super they just won't outperform a rifle or shotgun no magic bullets creating small nuclear clouds inside the target just poking holes causing leaks which the human body will sometimes close up due to elasticity of organs and skin. or work until it all leaks out and collapses this is why the "failure drill" ( or us old timers Mozambique drill ) and other tactics are employed (pelvic girdle hits,Hammer drills ) since usually if you are involved with a determined predator time is of the essence and you want it stopped N O W Study your weapon of choice, ammo of choice learn its abillities and limitations and anatomy of your possible target be it 2 or 4 legged and train up accordingly with your primary and secondary aiming points of choice since the target/targets will probably be moving. I gave up on that what caliber long ago when I hear the saying "Hanguns poke holes, Long guns tear s$&t up.." and upon studying found the living animal be it human or not a rather resilient target to an instant stop the gun rags and ammo marketers try to sell us on and just how hard it would be to do on a "dark and stormy night..." Think back to when you deer hunt how long an animal went after being shot with a rifle now take that time and change it into a determined individual commited to ending your existence,... even 5 seconds can be an eternity go ahead check with your watch I'll wait... ...... ....... ...... now factor you just did that with even half the energy ( multiple handgun hits) 10 seconds is a long time isn't it...... this is also why I dont get involved in "Just call 911..." debates ever time 10 minutes ? ? ? Sorry for the thread drift,... just wanted to maybe encourage some thinking beyond normal "thats why I carry Gods caliber with the FBI load..." thoughs.. John
21. the only way of reloading a .22 LR is Corbin used to make swaging dies for them to make them into .223 bullets using led wire as cores..might still if it can be reloaded and I own the caliber I reload it if I don't I still save the brass I find at the range/get from friends as trading material or as an excuse to buy a firearm for the "orphan" brass I_Like_Pie yeah but they solved that and came out with the 5.7 FN
22. 350 to 400 ft. lbs of energy 1100 to 1250 fps. through a barrel at 33 ft. then 3 1/2 walls at 100 yds... so we learn (?) that 9mm FMJ with a residual 280 ft lbs +/- or so will go through 3 1/2 walls as long as you don't find a stud and the slug doesn't tumble.... and yes don't be a dumbass have a decent backstop.. “The round entered through the exterior wall at the back of the house, then traveled through the dining room, into the living room through a doorway, into the north wall of the living room, which is adjacent to a bedroom, through an interior wall, exited the interior wall into that bedroom and embedded itself into the east exterior wall of the house,” so the shot impacted diagonally through the house,... and didn't deflect due to angular impact ? have seen bullets do interesting things not arguing with what happened just sayin it is interesting given the limited information we have.
23. I just zero my calipers on a projectile ... automatically figures the math and then mesure from outside to outside which is easier than c to c unless you have overlays.. Also I have read there is a program you can download that you scan your targets and it figures it all for you and is exportable so you can post the pic that way too..
