1. As much as everyone wants to go with they "they would scatter" theory   one has to ask...   what happens when 6 or 8 of those bikers skin their smoke wagons  and your family is part of the the backstop ?   it can easily go both ways once guns started getting pulled  they run and you are OK or they decide to shoot back and you cant hit them all   they were already in a highly agitated state so you pull a gun and shoot the helmet guy do you really think they're just going to run away ?  maybe so maybe not      the odds are bad enough at 3 to 1  anyone thinks 30 to 1 is any better needs their thought process evaluated.   Nobody wins in this situation
2. AR headspace is set by the barrel maker when they put the extension on   barrel nut wrench, torque wrench and an action block to hold the upper without warping it  (borrowed from a friend when I built mine) hair dryer optional if the barrel doesn't slide into the upper easy sometimes they don't account for final finishes affecting the clearances. and a good set of roll pin punches.   Brownells has some good videos online to walk you through tools and how to build, you just have to decide which of the Bazillion combinations of parts you want to put together  short M4gery or a 3gun or a heavy long range varmint   Lego system of the gun world   welcome to the black rifle addiction
3. I was always told :   when the SPROING stops that's your clue to reload and proceed   or that something has gone horribly wrong in the feed cycle and needs attention     sort of like the PING in an M-1  I have come to know and love it    like the hum of airplane engines or the buzzing of a quirky bilge pump   I guess we all have different opinions of a "happy noise"
4. Just ordered an Alien for my Glock 23 have you gotten yours yet jimmydeuce ?
5. Swung a Baikal and it felt clubbish to me so I went with a Stoeger Condor  extractors and no select on barrels so pretty basic and utilitarian a higher model comes with barrel selection and ejectors I believe  bought this one a few years back on sale at BassPro for $350-   they offer a 2 barrel set  12 and 20 for around $550- with just a 12 for $400- http://www.basspro.com/Stoeger-reg-Condor-Field-Over-Under-Shotgun-Combo/product/10218077/   the Squirrels, Ducks and Geese hate it and my shoulder likes it may even try a round of sporting clays with it someday.   I did change out the chokes for a pair of Carlson extended though  and am actually considering sling studs and a mid bead at some point
6.  I have a CORE 15 BCG in my rifle and know a few guys down Fla. way that have complete rifles and like them with no complaints   I would have to ask though what you plan on doing with it that you would want a piston setup?   setting aside the whole DI vs. Piston argument here I would only be concerned about using a company's proprietary system and availability of parts in the future ( read: obtain a few "service kits" if there are any to keep on hand as parts do wear and break)   According to CORE15s website ( PDF rifle manual page 7 ) it has 4 settings Open and unless you are suppressing it will live there, then HIGH and LOW for suppressor work and Removal , if I were to go piston I would want one with an adjustable type regulation like a FAL.   Looks a lot like an Adams Arms kit but can't be sure from just pictures, they seem to be the closest to a standardized system
7. I agree with the no ammonia use   Nu Finish car polish   and a cut up dryer sheet for the first few runs   Don't see any reason why Flitz wouldn't work  try it it would only cost you a tub of media and what little flitz you do use   J
8. kind of puts "I'm having a bad day" in perspective , wouldn't even make these charts   so remember this next time someone does something stupid and you are thinking you go inconvenienced  or feel the road rage setting in..   we are all significant I agree but what we do and experience changes in significance depending on perspective   what upsets me today will be forgotten when viewed from next week or month or even remembered a year from now is what I take from this   yes a wife's year long battle with cancer is an eternity when you are in the fight but 5 years from now it will seem so far away now that it is gone and you are living free from it.    Yeah your boss or company really stepped on you about something you did  but next month will it even matter to your then current perspective on life in general , probably not.   That guy who cut you off in traffic or difficult customer, think of this, you only had to deal with him for a few seconds, he has to live with himself 24/7    Sorry for the long winded THANKS for this reminder, but it has been "interesting" around my world lately but looking back a year from now should be all good
9. Mossberg 144 lsb maybe ?
10. been toying with getting one of these but my Cattaraugus 225Q keeps screaming for a sheath and to not let this little guy take its place   maybe get one as a back up blade and keep it in my daypack
11. only if the shell gets trapped as the slide shuts   My G-23 does it and has since 1993  not a problem as the reloading dies iron the case out   Generally as long as your ejector shape and extractor tension is right this isn't an issue and if it isn't right the relief cut ( like a 1911) won't help    differences in ammo will change slide velocity or some call it cyclic timing, so some ammo will not show it and some will  shorter slides move faster so it will be more prevalent in smaller autos    the same load in a 17 or a 19 may not dent or dent only a few due to this timing phenomenon as the recoil impulse and slide mass make the whole evolution relatively slower and less violent.   I take it the brass is still falling say 3-5 feet away from the shooter  if so I wouldn't worry too much about it  now if it rolls off the back of your firing hand and lands at your feet that would indicate a problem worth looking into
12. In my M-52 which is based off the 39  there is a screw in the magazine well behind the trigger  easier to see if you take the slide off and look down from above   hope this helps
13. hitting the slide on the way out    will happen on an old 1911 just like the pic  this is why the 1911 Gold Cup is cut the way it is to eliminate this from happening   the shell gets flicked back against the slide traveling forward and the dent is formed as the slide feeds the next round, at some point if this is slowed down enough you get the dreaded "stovepipe" failure..     this shows a Glock 18  and you can clearly see some shells getting tripped up and hitting the slide as the slide travels forward   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDT8-0VlSxI
14. an Ad for them mine has a few miles on it Someday I will make a sheath worthy of it, and take it on my walkabouts and hunting a pretty good article on it http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=31346
15. he did say he would bring "change"    Some of us heeded the warning  others got a cell phone   Ladies and Gentlemen,  the ride is about to begin......
16. I run a JP brake on my .223 and yeah folks wonder what the hell it is all the time   when the Mfg. sends it with a set of ear plugs you know you are in for a ride :)
17. Don't forget the Old Savage 99s  they have one too.
18. ASP and DEVEL  did grips/mags like that with their S&W cut downs back in the late 70's early 80's   http://www.yankeegunnuts.com/2011/05/01/ahead-of-their-time-asp-devel-modifications-to-smith-wesson-pistols/   to which S&W "Thanked" them by introducing the smaller versions of the 39 and 59 sans grip view ports
19. Here ya go  it made the Washington Times   http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/aug/14/piers-morgan-i-dont-want-all-women-america-armed-g/     and he dredges up Sandy Hook ? what a tool   J
20. Depending on the powder selected and charge weight chosen to get to the velocity desired sometimes the powder is deemed a "compressed" loading I prefer a little space but will go with a light compression sometimes depending on the loading but you shouldn't have to hear a crunching sound or use undue force to seat the projectile some claim a slight compressed load has the potential to be more accurate as the powder won't shift in the case ie: closer or farther from the ignition source I always work up to a load that is compressed as the pressures will vary from casing volume, chamber dimensions, neck tension etc. watching for pressure signs such as stiff bolt lift, flattened primers (both edge and firing pin dent setback) Sometimes that shows before you get to compressed sometimes not my ammo for the competition semi autos is always shakeable as an extra check against a no powder squib as in the heat of competition you may try to clear and KaBoom before realizing it was a squib instead of a dud John
21. I would prefer the GI ones, the rubber ones that come with the plastic box with a chain if I were to EDC earplugs. and they are cheaper than a can for your blaster,  in a pinch I have used a couple of .38Spl empties
22. for 0.99 I'll give it a read,. thanks for the info
23. are you sure what the projectile is ?  any pictures of the suspect ammo ?   might want to invest in a collet puller you would use in a press    impact or hammer pullers can/may set of tracer ammo  since we don't know where these came from it is a remote possibility   I'd use a tubing cutter on the first one to get a look at the back of a projectile   Just a thought.
24. Good news is you only have to swage/ream once then they load like commercial brass   Generally you only find crimped primer pockets on military brass   it can be a few dimples like staking or look like a whole ring around the primer
25. A salty old warhorse if I ever saw one,   looks like a FAL should  used, weathered and ready to rumble when called up.  :no1:
