  1. Actually you get good citizen points.. you are a RECYCLER I pick anything up that's reloadable even if I don't have that cal. someday I will trade for something I can use... I have traded brass for : a camelback a good hunting knife a set of shotgun choke tubes projectiles a holster bartering is symbiotic to reloading I think John

Greg, The only reason I do it is because I got the powermags cheap because the guy said I couldn't get ammo for them I liked the idea of a challenge back then..the .401 is the .41 Mags daddy and with all the 10mm slugs out there I can go from 135gr @1900 to 270 gr @ 1150 so it is pretty versatile for a sixgun. I agree most ammo today has it all covered but historically speaking wildcats gave birth to some great rounds.. technically for a short time a .308 win was a wildcat so was a .243 win even the star of the moment for some AR folks the 6.8 SPC and the 6.5 Grendel 1shot,. I always liked the works of P.O. Ackley but never enough to ream out one of my '03s to 30-06 AI the .303 Epps conversion either and the 7-30 Waters or the K-Hornet would have been something to play with maybe even a 6mm/.223 someday.. that 30-30 should be quite the deerslayer John
  4. Very versatile weights from 180 to 250 grs. my reloading manual I have here shows a 240 JHP at 850 so I would think it would work as well as a .45 ACP +P on a historical note,.. that caliber made the news back in 1976-1977 David Berkowitz - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia John
  5. Depends also on the amount of shooting you plan on doing,.. Occasional range use almost anything will do ,but to an extent, you do get what you pay for so go to the store with someone who has handled several if you can they may know what to look for and can save you expensive bills down the road...used 1911s if cared for are also good to look at some are great bargains ... Carry/HD you would want to invest in a reliable performer, this is literally a life or death decision .. IPSC / IDPA a serious schedule of shooting high round count... you are buying a frame and slide as you will change or wear out the internals, ask any seasoned competitor, they have all sorts of "spare parts" bins.. Bullseye Accuracy,reliability,looks in that order those 10 rings are small and far away My 1911s all fall into the IPSC category but my 5" .45 is a Gold Cup upper with a fitted NM bushing,..none have all the parts they came with.. This is the joy of a 1911 you can make it anything you want it to be but a quality frame is paramount to build any type of pistol on...then rebuild it as your needs change John

Not regularly, I have been getting back into hunting.. but this year I am planning to shoot more paper and maybe some steel plates if my schedule works out.. and a 2700 might be possible in the fall if I remember enough.. I could make a trip at some point , would be fun to get back into Bullseye shooting maybe some other folks here might dust off a few Rugers and S&Ws and join in... I am trying to get Sunday night off on the 31st. to make it to Greenbrier to meet some folks... any excuse to burn some powder.. but my schedule is somewhat erratic. John

I also wish to apologize to the posters who owned this pistol if they were offended by my post I didn't mean to infer you went inside with a monkey wrench... and I have seen that 3 finger spring lose temper all by itself and cause problems with the hammer/sear John
  10. Jeff, After some research on my part I now understand the problem.. thanks for a gentle push in the right direction.. Metalhead : I didn't know the handle was fixed to the bolt,.thought it was more like an AR or HK charging handle , I also figured most modern arms designs moved over to that system and kept the bolt free to do its thing,.. I won't make that assumption again... Cheers... John

I would hazard a guess that a middle loading would reform the case back to spec. basically you are fireforming so a mid loading is appropriate though the loads may look like an old glass coke bottle then again so do my .38 Supers Modern Reloading has case specs. to help you visualize how much you resized them.. John
  12. et45 that is like nails on a blackboard, or a drill bit to my ear but is a good litmus test as to how much the clerk understands his product most folks don't understand the feeding round cushions the closing of most semi-auto actions.. one shop I used to go to ( in 1980s ) had a nice fancy sign stating : Feel Free to dry fire anything in the house... $35.00 a snap that store is closed now but I would have loved to have inherited that sign John I have a few that I dry fire, mostly my 1911s and I really wish other companies copied Browning on the Medalist safety mechanism.... it has a dry fire setting
  13. I was helping a buddy break in his 10-22 and he wanted to try a Glock 9 so we stopped in spur of the moment on the way back from Outpost .. I was the taller guy, maybe next time I will bring my gear. Nice looking Mk III BTW that box looked like it had a few miles on it.. John

I have heard of folks using .303 and or .308 to make .35 Rem brass but haven't done it personally I would imagine you would use commercial casings and consult a reloading forum under "Wildcatting" to see if anyone has info on this if you are looking to take a project like that on.. I use .30-30 to make .401 Herters for my PowerMags Just a thought.. and please PM me if the 80 MATCH cal. 30 is available I have some .40 and some 10mm if you are still in the market for some also some .303 Brit. I set 1 off once loading .45 on my Dillon 550 a bit of media got onto the primer cup probably when I decapped,.. then a primer was fed onto said primer cup ,..seat and POP set my ear to ringing but otherwise nothing else as the primer mag tube is far enough away and the primers energy is directed up... a bright flash which you will see in your vision much like looking at a bright flashlight... but no "earth shattering bench wrenching press ripping" problems +1 on the safety glasses I actually use a pair of raquetball glasses I also wear when I go hunting( on my way out to my location errant tree branches etc.) eyes are hard to fix I hear.. sideways and backwards primers, I could fill a coffee can especially when you forget to swage or remove crimps on old military rifle cases, I usually wait until the end of the session after the press has been de-powdered and go slow and decap with no problems so far then decrimp pocket and set to next batch IPSC here also colrmccoll also lots of PPC and Bullseye reloads for handgun, wish I had documented how many rounds in 20+ years....   19. Get a stencil set... either on your safe or on a large piece of paper,back of target stencil these following words.. Gun Motel....... Guns check in but they don't check out...... and you will live a happy old gun owning life... John
  20. C.P. Bullets back in '92 or so... they are out of business now but you could try brownells,Chip McCormick,Wilson, arredondo. "Shaw base pads" if you are feeling "googlish" they were on a vendor table if I remember and it was easier to keep track of which mag went to which gun while at a match. at a match you would be surprised how easily you can grab the wrong mags but as a side note the 38Super will work in a 10 mag and 10 will work in a .45 mag with varying degrees of reliability LOL

  23. The Laser will outreach the round,..that's physics. a 125 gr. XTP from Hornady @ 875 fps. with a .5" sight height ( not sure how far below bore line the laser is.. ) to use numbers figured on a 6" target come out to this (courtesey of Real Guns - External Ballistics Calculator ).... yours may vary from this as pistols and ammo may vary but you can adjust once you fire a few over a chrono and confirm your BC to plug in to the website above.. Depending on the size of the beam,... you may not have to sight it in too high and you will be good to 80+ yds. on a 6" target according to this simulation of course you should verify at a range and don't take numbers over real world holes in paper.. Seems close enough to handle anything close enough to be a threat.. John

  25. non-reciprocating? I am guessing you mean it wont have that "Twwwaaannnggg" in the buffer tube when it slides back into the stock.. looks like HK and Armalite got together... should prove interesting to see in live fire.. John
