  1. I've owned one but shot both. I still have my XD-9. It's been flawless. Spare mags are not that expensive. Last time I looked (which has been a year or maybe a little longer), the spare M&P mags were ridiculously priced. That said, they both shoot well, but I love the way the M&P feels in my hand. This will probably come down to you shooting both and deciding from there. You can't go wrong with either IMO.
  2. Thanks! I have had it 9 years. It was my first carry gun.. when I was 22 and weighed about a buck fiddy.. carried in a snapless quick draw crossdraw holster Needless to say it was a bit much to conceal. Anyway, it is a 686. On the frame just below the serial number, it reads, "MOD 686-4." I wonder if you're right about it being nickel instead of stainless, though. If it's nickel, Im surprised at the quality of the plating. There is NO evidence anywhere of any chipping. Where the top of the frame/barrel is matte, there is no noticeable transition between matte and shiny. This alone led me to believe that it's just polished, but reading around, most S&W's that look like this are nickel plated, and the polshed models aren't anywhere near this shiny. It could be an aftermarket job, as the trigger and hammer have also been polished or plated. I have not seen this in any other pics of S&W plated or polished revolvers.
  3. I have an earlier model that, to my knowledge, was polished at the factory. It is a mirror stainless finish. Every piece. It feels much smoother than any other revolver I've shot, leading me to believe that at some point in its life it has had some work done to it. I love this revolver, and it's the only gun I own that I would never consider selling. It has the firing pin on the hammer and does not have a lock. Also has the full cylinder release button. 6 shot, .357 Mag.
  4. I used some peel and stick tile for my workbench's surface. It has taken plenty of gun/automotive chemicals with no problems. If a tile gets messed up, buy another one for $2 at Home Depot. I looked all over for a nice piece of stainless steel for the work surface, but it was going to take an act of Congress and a bunch of money to get one cut to the size I needed.
  5. Just kidding. I didn't go to college! laughtrack.wav Welcome to the forum!
  6. DNAman was my nickname in college.
  7. Art Bell broadcast his show from there.
  8. I delivered pizza in 2004 or something for PJ's. It was their policy to not allow weapons on the premises or to allow drivers to carry them (lol). I always had my Glock 36 on my side. Be damned if I'm going to get mugged or killed over a policy for a job I only took to have extra money to build an engine for a car.
  9. So does Denzel!
  10. Just another reason I keep my gun out of sight from everyone. Most people don't know the laws, and it keeps you from getting into any kind of anything regarding your carry status.
  11. Starting off with some Irish Car Bombs and then whatever's on tap at various bars in Nashville. Staying wtih a friend a stone's throw from Broadway.
  12. I bought a .22 rifle from Walmart in Hermitage a couple years ago. I didn't have to put it in a hard case, but a manager had to walk me to the exit through the store, and he had to carry the gun in its cardboard box while we were in the store.
  13. I also noticed that Walmart used the word "Christmas" instead of "holiday" in an actual Christmas commercial yesterday. I was shocked!
  14. Blast from the past
  15. "No harm done" was referring to myself.
  16. I wouldn't tattle. I smoked my fair share of herb back in the day. No harm done.
  17. Isle of Man is awesome to watch. Check out the sidecar action!
  18. Next we will have Facebook drama threads showing up here at TGO..
