Shots Fired at Bush Intercontinental Airport
RobertNashville replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
From what I'm hearing this may be a "suicide by cop" incident. -

It's against the law here too as it is in most states. However, I expect it will take you getting ticketed or at least pulled over for it before you'll believe it. ;)

I the risk of offending some here, it's the 18 wheelers who are pissing me off more than other vehicles...I suppose it's because I expect people who drive for a living to be a bit safer and courteous. I always stay right unless I'm ready to pass a slower vehicle and I travel at about 75 MPH unless I have reason to do otherwise.. I travel about 66 miles of I24 every day (round trip) and it never fails that I'll be gaining on a semi with both of us in the right lane...I change lanes to pass and the semi I'm gaining on will pull into the passing lane in front of me requiring me to hit my brakes hard just to keep from rear-ending the SOB. Then, he'll take 10 minutes to pass the semi in the right lane because the semi in the right lane is trying to maintain 62.1 MPH while the semi trying to pass him is trying to maintain 62.3 MPH. One of these days I'm going to install some 007 s**t on my car to handle situations like this. ;)

Humm...that beats me...I was only clocked at 125. Thankfully I had slowed down when he nailed me. :)

Cops warn Chicago tourists soon will be armed
RobertNashville replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Almost all large cities have significant problems with poverty and crime and almost all large are run by liberal/socialists/progressives. Crime, while always a problem in large cities seems to be the most problematic in the cities with the most stringent gun control laws. I can't help but wonder if there is a correlation here somewhere??? -
Commercial Appeal HCP database

I don't like that they still have the data up but it may well take a lawsuit to get them to take it down. We can take some comfort in the knowledge that unless some leftest just want's to throw money down a rat hole (which could happen); papers (left and right leaning) are all going to go the way of the telegraph and soon, the post office - they are an anachronism that will not be able to survive much longer. Personally, I haven't read a physical newspaper in 15 years; even the ones I get free when I'm traveling and I seriously doubt I'm unusual in that regard. -
Than back to my original statement that I doubt you will find many if any legislators or want-to-be legislators who will agree that a business should not be able to restrict arms inside of their physical business/building and have those signs carry the force of law which, would disqualify them from office per your position (if I'm understanding you correctly). I guess what I'm saying is that while it's great to want legislators that look at the TN constitution the same way you do, I think it's an unobtainable/unrealistic goal...the only way you'll find someone who really looks at things the same way is for you to run for the office. ;)

As soon as I find my miniature violin I'll get it out and play a tune for you...in the meantime...LEAVE EARLIER. Seriously, people who don't follow the rules of the road (including those who pull out without ACD or who drive 10 or 20 miles under the speed limit) have a special place in hell reserved for them - I know that because Gary Larson put it in one of his cartoons; they were right next to the child molesters and murders. :)

If I remember correctly the fellow who started Nighthawk used to build for Wilson then split off...I don't think there is any love lost between them these days. I have a Nighthawk Custom Talon and I USE it...I've taken it through more than a few classes where we are firing a lot of rounds and for a long time; it's never been picky about the ammo used and the Talon kept working when other, even more expensive 1911s were choking...mine only failed when we induced malfunctions. :) I've got more expensive and less expensive 1911s but if I was going to be my life on one the Talon is the one I'd pick up. Wilson, Nighthawk, Ed Brown and Les Bare make excellent, even exquisite 1911s...I don't believe you would be disappointed with a 1911 from any of them.

No Charges for this Guy. WOW!
RobertNashville replied to sschrick's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I didn't read anywhere that the manager said he fired first; guess I missed it. While I respect your opinion, hearing that the manager fired first reinforces my opinion that the manager escalated and even caused a gun fight where there didn't need to be one. I can understand that a thug with a gun is a "threat"; but if he is disengaging (running away) and not doing anything to reengage (turning around, pointing his weapon at someone, etc.) I don't see how, under TN law, he could be considered an active threat or to put it another way, I don't see how this manager he is fleeing from has a reasonable fear of imminent death or grave bodily injury sufficient to claim self-defense. Even assuming the thug is an active threat; I would think that starting a gunfight potentially puts a lot more innocent people at risk than the thug running away...had this gunfight ended with an innocent bystander getting shot or killed I wonder if some who have been vocal in support of this manager would be singing a different tune. The part I doubt I'll ever get past is that the thug was shot in the back...citizens aren't cops or soldiers and we aren't supposed to be vigilantes. Even if this thug deserved to be shot, shooting someone in the back is an act that just strikes me as cowardly and smacks not of "self-defense" but of dishing out justice. -

There is no onus on anyone to do anything. As to facts, I have just as many facts to support my opinion about this incident as you do, I simply don't hold the same opinion yet you've been riding my ass about my opinion since page 1 (post no 20). I have never said or indicated that I know more about the facts of this case than anyone else; in fact, exactly the opposite - I've said, likely a dozen or more times, that I'm going on and only going on what the stories have said; I don't know how to say it more simply than that. The manager committed a homicide - I've already explained in multiple posts my reasoning for believing that the homicide was a murder which, of necessity, makes the manager a murderer. Everybody else, including you, is free to hold their own opinions. -

Maybe you should have looked at the posts I was replying to. So....forming an opinion based only the information presented in the stories means I'm making assumptions, apparently, by not making assumptions. Tell me with certainty who fired the fist shot or if the bad guy fired at all. Tell me with certainty if the bad guy turned around or was only and always running away. Tell me with certainty how the bad guy ended up with a gunshot wound in his back. Tell me exactly what was in the police report/the investigation report on the incident. If we had answers to those questions it could have a substantial barring on my opinion but until someone can tell me those things I'll stick to what the stories have said and based on what the stories have said I see nothing to justify this manager's actions after the thug left the store. Maintain what you want abut a retreating thug being a threat that justifies deadly force...my training doesn't agree with you and my reading of TN law doesn't agree with that assertion either. -

People above said it and I replied...didn't you read the posts??? A civilian only has the right in Tennessee to use deadly force to stop a threat of death or serious bodily injury - a thug who has disengaged and is leaving the scene is no longer a threat unless he does something to reengage and there are no facts in the stories about this incident to show that the thug was doing anything to reengage. If you know of other facts rather than assumptions about this incident then feel free to share them. -
I probably wouldn't see or trade with you either, and I mean no offense. There is nothing wrong with being 20 nor is there a thing wrong with you or someone much younger than you owning a firearm or several firearms in my always humble opinion. The problem is that I don't know you and at only 20, using other methods to "know" you are not really available. When it's someone I don't know I can at least request an HCP or if I wish, require us to go through an FFL even though it's not required to do so. Of course if it's someone I know well or have dealt with before that's even better. I guess I was lucky, I grew up in a family that enjoyed firearms; I always had access to them and some were given to me at a very young age...we used to go hunting in the mornings and leave our shotguns in the car when I went to school later (or went after school)...no one called the police on us and if they had, our sheriff would have likely arrested them. I miss those days.

As i said, having the money the is one part of the equation; having the need or desire is the other - if those two conditions are met then it's not wasting money. On the other hand, without both conditions then there is no reason to buy regardless of the price. I'm also not worried about such prices being the "new norm"...it may take a while but the market will almost always take care of itself. With that said I think the thread has been hijacked enough...after all, this thread wasn't supposed to be a discussion of what price is "fair". :leaving:

If you can afford it and want it then go for it. I mean no offense but asking whether it's "worth it " or not is a silly question as the only person in the world who can answer that question for you is yourself! There is nothing quite like a custom made 1911 - these firearms are works or mechanical art.

I'm not sure how you can make this into two separate events but I think at best it's a distinction without a difference. In this prior post you asked the question... So, I ask you the same question you asked SWJewellTN because I've looked at the law and I see nothing that indicates that a civilian can pursue a fleeing felon and use deadly force to subdue him. In fact, what has already been quoted earlier by me and in more detail by SWJewellTN indicates exactly the opposite of your position. -
Well, if one has the money and wants or needs what they are buying; I don't see a problem. If a person can "afford" to wait until things normalize that's fine too. That said, as long as you've got legislators foaming at the mouth to pass "common sense gun control laws" like limiting "high capacity clips" the panic buying is likely to persist.

Sounds like some are dealing with individual brain-dead TSA agents (sorry for repeating myself there).

Do You Believe That "Bigfoot" Exists?

Probably a sign of approaching old age (although rumor has it that you can see that sign clearly in your rear-view mirror. :) -
Do You Believe That "Bigfoot" Exists?
RobertNashville replied to RobertNashville's topic in General Chat
That's ^ where a lot of my skepticism lies too...I know that the possibility of a "man-ape" type creature exists and it's difficult to discount all the thousands of reported sightings, some that are very credible. However, with all the hunters who are in the woods every day as well as those who specifically hunt these creatures, I find the lack of significant evidence, not to mention a body (live or otherwise) odd. -
First 1911: Ruger or Sig (now with purchased photos!)
RobertNashville replied to a topic in Handguns
Aside form the possibility of a "lemon" (happens, although not that much with either of these manufacturers) you truly aren't going to go wrong with either one although I'd give the nod to the Sig. -
Ammo is my only reason for not buying one...I decided a while ago that it was in my best interests to only have firearms that use easy (relatively anyway) to find ammo, I do have a couple of odd-balls but even then not totally "odd" :) The 57 is a great handgun and of course, has FNH's quailty behind it which I've come to appreciate more and more. Congratulations!!!
