I'm sure he wouldn't or did...in fact, if you believe the BIble it's pretty clear that he surrounded himself with "sinners"; something a lot of modern Christians seem to forget. The way some churches operate today they are like hospitals who won't allow any sick people through the doors.

Troubling news for the Trayvon Martin camp
RobertNashville replied to DaveS's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Wouldn't that depend on whether there are lessor included charges and/or if FL law allows a jury to convict on a lessor charge at their discretion? I don't know if that applies to this case or not...just conjecture on my part. -
Troubling news for the Trayvon Martin camp

Many here would likely disagree about how smart I am. :) Moving on, the problem with what people think ZImmerman did as a "watch captain" is that no one really know what Zimmerman did. For all we really know ZImmerman could have been running Martin down with his gun drawn and shouting racial insults causing little Travon to turn and fight....OR...Zimmerman could simply have kept his distance but still keep an eye on Martin and then when the 911 operator said "you don't have to to that" he turned around, walked calmly back to his vehicle (in other words, totally disengaged from the situation) when Martin; trying to be the gansta he wanted to be, pursue ZImmerman, jumped him and started beating him resulting in Zimmerman justifiably defending his life. Of course; the facts...the truth likely lie somewhere in between. -
Wow...I find it pretty incredible that in this day and age you or anyone else has never bought anything from a private seller (other then the car you mention) where the seller didn't collect sales taxes or hasn't bought something off the internet from a legitimate business retailer who also, because they didn't have physical presence in TN, didn't collect sales taxes and yet you self-reported and paid the tax. If you've never bought anything in that way then you are pretty unusual...if I"m misunderstanding you and you do buy in those ways but have always self-reported then you must be some kind of a saint. I never said you can't have your opinion or post your opinion; I just don't get what people who are upset about this expect to happen? I just bought a bunch of 22LR form Able Ammo...I guess I'm part of the problem because I'm not waiting around for 22LR to go back to $0.03/round (assuming it ever does)...I was really upset when gold was at $900/oz because there was a time I could have bought it for $300/oz...I'm still waiting for it to come back down to $300 so that I don't contribute to all the scalping going on in the gold industry. ;)

+2 Some people are just assholes that need to be on the list to die soon and make the world a better place. People that abuse animals for the fun of it are top of that list...people that would kill a dog without justification are not far behind.

Troubling news for the Trayvon Martin camp
RobertNashville replied to DaveS's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Is all that you just wrote above is what you think happened then I invite you to go back and take a look at all that was said. -
Sorry...the "good indicator" is a long way from real evidence of a monopoly...prove to me that 22LR or any other ammo is in short supply ONLY because of Wallyworld scalpers who are in collusion with each other and I'll listen; otherwise it's just whining and I've misplaced my miniature violin. More to the point, just what do you folks whining about this expect to be done? Do you really think that posting on TGO is going to solve the problem? Most monopolies, if indeed this really were one, are broken up and/or are controlled by, guess who...the federal government....do you want Obummer to step in and take charge??? :screwy:

I can tell you where I draw the line...I draw the line when someone with a different belief system than I have tells me I must believe the way they do. However, apart from that, their believing the way they do is irrelevant to how I treat them whether they are in my boy scout troop or sitting across from me in a meeting at work. Now, if I truly think that my son being in a scout troop where they may or may not be a boy that is gay is a problem for me than I won't let my son be a part of the troop but I'm not going to tell the BSA that they can't set their own policy and I'm not going to claim they "sold out" without actual evidence of that. I wish someone could explain to me how the Boy Scouts officially allowing homosexual boys to be in the scouts (apparently under the erroneous assumption that they weren't already there) is "immoral" because I truly don't understand it...what am I missing? Allowing gay boys into scouts is not an endorsement of homosexuality or of homosexual sex any more than allowing "fat" boys in scouts is an endorsement of gluttony; at least not in any way I can see.

Troubling news for the Trayvon Martin camp
RobertNashville replied to DaveS's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
So....it's just people who try to protect their neighborhoods you have a problem with? My neighborhood saw a rash of burglaries in 2011 so in 2012, guess what...we formed a neighborhood watch. Since then, burglaries have decreased from two or three a week to about one per month. I suppose we could have just sat in our homes and let the cops do their job but I for one prefer less burglaries. -

Hummm...I was under the impression that we have neighborhood watches (encouraged by law enforcement agencies) and that most of us carry precisely because the "cops" are usually not going to be there at the precise moment we need them. -
Red do you really think that there were not "gay" boys in Boy Scouts until this policy change? Is it really "immoral" for a private organization to change a policy they probably never significantly enforced in the first place? Being "fat" is a sin in many Christian's eyes...should the BSA have refused to allow "fat kids" in scouts? If they had been doing that and then changed their policy would that be a moral issue too? My morals are not dependent on nor impacted by what the BSA does or doesn't do or how they run their organization.

Do you have legitimate figures to back up your assertions that there these scalpers constitute a monopoly? Unless you do, an assertion is just like an opinion. and just as valuable when there is no data to back up the assertion. If there is a monopoly then why was I able, just a few days ago, to buy a few hundred rounds of 22lr without going to Wallyworld and without buying from a scalper and not at a "massively inflated price"??? Sure...people are pissed that they can't buy 22lr for $0.02/round right now...I get it...that doesn't constitute a "monopoly" and even if it did, whining about on the internet isn't going to change anything that I can think of.
-
If someone can sell me the ammo I want at a price I'm willing to pay I don't see the problem...it really isn't any of my damn business what they paid for it. That IS the free market and while the free market can suck for some for short periods it WILL correct itself and I don't see the point of going on the internet to complain about a handful of alleged "scalpers" just because that complainer(s) doesn't like the price of ammo or that he can't walk into Wallyworld anytime he likes and buy right now. I also highly doubt that these scammers are having any measurable impact on the price or availability of ammo and until someone can show me real figures I'll continue to disregard assertions to the contrary. I haven't had any significant problem buying ammo since about February; I just purchased a few hundred rounds of 22LR online just a few days ago; it wasn't as cheep as it used to be but it wasn't even remotely close to $50 a brick either....it makes me wonder just why people are getting their panties in a bunch.
-
So what? Have you ever bought or sold anything from/to anyone in a private transaction? Do you think there was sales tax owed and if so, was it paid? Have you ever purchased anything from an internet retailer who doesn't collect TN sales tax and if so, did you self report and pay the taxes? Are you really that concerned about "taxes" or are you just pissed off that you can't buy ammo at the price you want?
-
I'm sorry Red but I don't see this as a moral issue. The BSA is a private organization and decided to change their policy...either way they went (keep the existing policy or change it) they were going to piss off some groups of people. The BSA made a choice and it doesn't bother me at all. Now, if they start holding regular "sensitivity" classed and try to form boy's opinions about homosexuality that's a different matter but that's not what is happening here.

Troubling news for the Trayvon Martin camp
RobertNashville replied to DaveS's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I would do my best to stop the threat which at my age and physical condition would most certainly involve the use of a firearm. The key to this whole mess is whether or not Zimmerman will be held responsible for starting the incident. If, as seems to me to be the case, Zimmerman was returning to his vehicle (had disengaged) and then Martin jumped Zimmerman then Martin, was the aggressor and clearly presented a threat of death or great bodily injury to Zimmerman and Martin got exactly what he deserved. On the other hand, if Zimmerman was still actively pursuing Martin or did something that caused Martin to reasonably believe he was under imminent threat then Zimmerman is the guilty party. I know it's just opinion but my gut tells me that Martin was a thug-want-a-be and was looking for a way to improve his gansta image and started the physical altercation with Zimmerman after Zimmerman could no longer be reasonably considered to be a threat to Martin. -

I think Zimmerman is innocent and have thought so pretty much from the beginning, mostly because before all the political/racial shit started the DA had declined to prosecute (I really, really doubt a prosecutor would not prosecute if he thought he had this serious of a winnable case) and especially after the un-doctored tapes and witness statements started to come out. I think these pictures and text messages just shows "sweet little Travon" for exactly what he is, a want-a-be badass/gansta with not a lot going on upstairs and a big chip on his shoulder. -
Of course, my personal beliefs are VERY relevant to ME and to all the oaths I've taken in my life but my personal beliefs are totally irrelevant (or should be) to an organization like the Boy Scouts of America and totally irrelevant with regards to what a child, who isn't my own, believes about "god". I would be coming from a very different position if, for example, the BSA was specifically founded as a “Christian†organization with specified doctrine but, at least to the best of my knowledge, that is not the case. In fact, what is the case is that the BSA has always been completely open to all religious beliefs. As to my question, I asked initially simply because I was curious as to why this was such a hot topic for you…when you didn't answer after the second time I was even more curious. ;)

What God I believe in is IRRELEVANT which was the point. You still haven't answered my question???

Horror stories of the Kirby vacuum salesman
RobertNashville replied to 10-Ring's topic in General Chat
Central syste is great but it's not for me...not worth the expense and doesn't offer enough flexability for my needs. -
I've read them and I took most of them and there is not ITEM ONE in any of those oaths that would prevent a homosexual boy from taking those oaths and living up to them completely...NOTHING (well, nothing except for what you want to add in as an additional requirement which is that the scout taking those oaths must believe in god the way you believe in god). P.S. I noticed that you didn't answer my question for post No. 71...Do you actually have a dog int this fight?...Are you currently involved in scouting'; either as an adult leader or have a son currently involved?

Horror stories of the Kirby vacuum salesman
RobertNashville replied to 10-Ring's topic in General Chat
I have a Dyson now and it'a a great vacuum...however it is plastic (though not as ugly as a Glock) and I have no illusions that it will last as long as a Kirby will (the on my wife sole...I mean got in the divorce is still going strong and that thing is now over 30 years old). ;) -
I don't believe there is any difference whatsoever. In all the years I was in Cub Scouts and then Boy Scouts and then worked as an adult volunteer I can't remember a single instance where "sex" was ever a topic of discussion or had anything to do with anything we were doing which is as it should be. There are gay people in our society and it's HIGHLY likely that everyone here works with gay people, and/or worships with gay people and yes, are or were in Boy Scouts with gay boys but no one knew because the gay people were and are like the vast majority of people; they simply live their lives and keep their sexual desire in the bedroom where they belong. Yes...I believe the Bible and I know the Bible says homosexuality is a sin. What I don't understand is why some "Christians" will get all bent our of shape when the subject of homosexuality comes up but will give a wink and a nod if the subject is adultery or avoiding taxes.
-
Tell me specifically, what gay organization(s) are demanding that the BSA change its "beliefs"? Pray tell, what ARE BSA's "beliefs"...can you even articulate them? It seems to me you are superimposing your personal beliefs on an organization...do you even have a dog is this fight (are you in the BSA, have a son in BSA, etc.)? What exactly are you concerned about now that homosexual boys are allowed to join BSA? Do you think gay orgies are inevitable or are you afraid that homosexuality is a communicable disease??? When it comes to my religious beliefs and my church I agree that I am not going to change my personal religious beliefs about the homosexual act being a sin nor do I want my church to change its position either. But is a significant difference between someone "joining" my church to be a member and worship there compared to someone joining and then demanding that my church change to say a sin is now no longer a sin. Are you suggesting that your church or any other church has no members who cheat on taxes, lie, steel, commit adultery, watch internet porn, masturbate, swear, have impure thoughts??? Maybe your church has only perfect people in it buy mine and every church I've ever belonged to had a lot of people who were not so perfect and if membership were denied to everyone who had ever committed a sin (or thought about doing so) there would be no one in church.
