  1. I know exactly what you mean...I'm pretty confident that I'll check out before all this liberal bull #### migrates to the entire country and I'm glad I will.  I feel sorry for the generations behind but I can't help them any more than I already have.
  2. Naah...9MM is carried by those with poor shot placement; that's why the need the extra ammo they can get with a 9MM
  3. Maybe we need a new forum category just for entertainment so that people don't get threads like this confused with serious discussions ;)
  4. Well, your first problem is you are using an 100 year old outdated design.   Other than that....maybe you should stand by because shooting someone (using deadly force) who isn't presenting an imminent threat of death or serious bodily injury isn't illegal and could send you to jail.  I mean, what good is your stuff if you are in prison? And if you are found guilty you could lose all that "stuff' you were protecting in the civil lawsuit(s) that will come your way if the shooting isn't justified.   On a more philosophical note, I suppose, legal or not, it comes down to whether you think a human life is less important than "stuff".  I think human life is pretty important or at the very least, more important than any stuff I happen to own so unless I'm in legitimate and reasonable fear for my life or the life of someone else I'm not going to shoot someone.   More to the point of this case, this idiot wasn't even protecting his own stuff but some store's stuff and he did it outside...is it really worth risking some innocent bystander's life to protect stuff that doesn't even belong to you?
  5. I carry a 45ACP when I just want to scare the thugs; I carry a 10MM when I want to do real damage.   9MM and 40S&W are for guys who actually want to carry a 45 or 10MM but are too wimpy)  :)
  6. That's an excellent video but something tells me you didn't quite get the point of the thread ;)
  7. The story noted that the visit may have been unplanned...I know if someone just dropped by my house I'd have to go around and collect the firearms I have around since I purposely have at least one in each room that I can always get to in a hurry.   I'm not saying that gun shouldn't have been left/secured but I don't know that you can just say this is 100% carelessness on the part of the gun owner either.
  8. "Normally, I am a peaceable man, but in this case, I am willing to answer the call to defend the country. From them."     Does anybody want to bet whether or not this guy would wet his pants and then run away and hide under a rock if ever actually was called on to "defend the country" OR that if some dirt-bag criminal was threatening his life he would turn to one of those "hated NRA members" expecting the sheepdog to protect his worthless life???
  9. "An Army Special Forces veteran who served in the Iraq War was accidentally shot and killed by his 4-year-old son in northern Arizona, police said."     When I read stories like this I don't even know what to say...how terribly sad and tragic for...well...for everyone.       http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013/06/08/4-year-old-boy-accidentally-shoot-and-kills-army-special-forces-father/
  10. :chill:  Okay..I guess you can't or at least didn't in this case, differentiate between a joke and a serious argument.
  11. Really??? I always thought that a weapon is "defensive" or "offensive" based on how it is used - not the platform, caliber, barrel length, or anything else.   If you use it to defend yourself then it's a defensive weapon, whether it's a 22 pistol or a Howitzer!  :)
  12. Discussions/stories like this can sound really good but executing it wold be very messy at best if it could be done at all.   For some time now and more and more these days I believe the country is going to melt down financially...people (and most especially other countries who are buying our debt) are going to figure out that our worthless money really is worthless...when that happens all hell is going to break lose and we'll see here what has happened in other countries (hyper inflation, hyper unemployment and worse).   The federal government will go apes**t and start trying to control everything while trying to make the states pay for it/do all the work...maybe then some states which still has some people in government who aren't politicians with their heads up their asses will simply decide to not to comply and group together with other like-minded states; effectively nullifying the federal government.   One way or another, this house of cards we've built will come crashing down...the only real questions are "when" and what will be the "final straw".
  13. The nice thing is, the video proves that we don't need to wast $$$ on expensive firearms; all we need to do is carry a bullet in the right caliber. ;)
  14. Survival rifle?  No one told me we were talking about survival rifles; that places a whole different light on the entire thread then because everyone knows that the AR/5.56 platform is completely inadequate for survival. ;)   For survival rifles you actually need two; a Ruger 10/22 (that's assuming you can find 22 ammo) and a Barrett 82A1; what the 22 can't handle the 50BMG will and anything too small for the 50 the 22 should do nicely
  15. It's Friday and we could probably all use a good laugh; even if it's laughing at ourselves. :)     https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=B2_kHtCKEwQ
  16. I don't know of anyplace where lie detector tests are admissible as evidence in court but maybe there are states/counties where they are.  Based on what I have read I think law enforcement agencies, DAs, defense attorneys, etc will use them in an investigation and/or to throw some doubt into the mess but I think that's about it.   Many years ago I took a lie detector test as part of the hiring process (for a part time job no less)...it was an interesting process to say the least but the whole machine and electrodes sort of felt very "unsophisticated" or like something out of the 30's or 40's.   Even so, I suspect that an operator who is really good at it probably can detect when a person is telling the truth!
  17. Maybe in your neighborhood all home invasions/night time home break-ins are always just one or maybe two thugs or people that will run if one of their buddies gets blown away?  ;)  It would be great if the bad guys always ran just because they hear a shotgun cycling but I think there are plenty of real-life examples where that didn't happen.   Do you have something against having lot's of capacity?   Believe or don't believe what you want; all I can say is that if if someone breaks into my home I want as much firepower on my side as possible.  If bad guys break into my home I likely won't know how many of them there may be, especially at first and I certainly won't know if they are smart enough to wear armor, what they'll do if they face armed resistance, what pharmaceuticals they might be on or a 100 other variables. If one shot sends all of them fleeing that's fine but I'm not going to bet my life on the hope that they'll be that accommodating.
  18. While I'm extremely opposed to any of these measures; I'm trying to figure out how universal background checks in Nevada will have ramifications for me in Tennessee? I would point out, other states have had similar requirements, sometimes for years.
  19. You're right...I have all my teeth.   I also have insurance to cover my "stuff"   As far as my neighbor's "stuff" goes; I'll call 911 and be as good of a witness as I can but he's responsible for his own insurance. ;)
  20. I'm never going to shoot at anyone for steeling "stuff"; most especially someone else's stuff and most most especially when it's a store's/company's.  Now, if it's food and we are in a TEOTWAWKI kind of situation that's a bit different...but just "stuff? No way.
  21. Have you ever fired a shotgun inside the confines of your bedroom or house?   Have you ever fired ANY firearm inside the confines of a house?   I'd take permanent hearing loss any day over being dead if I have to but I don't intend to have that problem because, at least if I'm responding to an after bedtime break in, whether I'm picking up my shotgun or my AR I'm ALSO picking up my amplified hearing protection for 1) protect my hearing and 2) amplify any sounds the bad guy(s) might make.
  22. One pump shotgun that I can cycle in a about 1 second with four or maybe 7 rounds is fine for one intruder...its capabilities start to get taxed if you've got a couple of intruders...any more intruders than that and it really starts to become inadequate.   For accuracy, effectiveness, safety, ease of use, ammo capacity, cycling time round to round and many other reasons, I'll take a semi-auto platform using 5.56 NATO and 27 rounds (not to mention I can reload and have 27 more in less time than most anyone can fully recharge a shotgun) over a shotgun any day.  That's especially true if one already HAS an AR or similar platform and is then considering buying a shotgun specifically for HD purposes (which I think is the OP's situation)...that money would probably be much better spent buying ammo or training. Or, do like I do and have one of each (shotgun on one side of the bed, the rifle on the other).   Now, if I already had a shotgun I wouldn't go out and by an AR just for HD but I think the AR platform is simply better. Perhaps more importantly, those who train others and those who have used both weapon systems in real-world situations seem to also feel the AR/5.56 platform is the better overall choice.
  23. I've read though his (dcloudy777) post multiple times and I can't find where he said anything remote close to "shotguns are so prone to operator error that they shouldn't be used for home-defense because they are in essence unreliable".   I don't believe anyone in this thread has said that a shotgun is either unreliable or ineffective (with proper ammo, aiming and understanding its limitations) but to deny that there are other and perhaps even much better alternatives out there is a bit short sighted.   If you only want a shotgun for HD go for it...no one is saying you can't or shouldn't do so.
  24. That might be...most men seem to complain less when two women are having fun together. ;)         Edit: fixed it!
