There are a number of approached to fixing what's wrong with the law...what I suggest is... 1. Change the law so that no parking lot where the public and/or employees are allowed to be (with perhaps a VERY few exceptions such as a jail/prison parking lot) can be posted against firearms as long as the firearm remain in the vehicle and remove any chance of criminality for having a legally carried firearm in a vehicle (which is about, although not quite what we now have). Second, make it illegal, as a matter of state employment law, for an employer to compel the search of an employee's vehicle. In other words, the only way an employee's vehicle could be search would be by the employer involving the police (with PC or warrant) because they believe a crime has been committed. Those two changes alone would take care of about 98% of the problem and I think nothing will be 100% because as long as we are an employment at will state and employer is always going to be able to fire you with or without cause and short of changing that I see no way that a "guns in trunks" bill could ever be perfect. It will probably have to stay limited to HCP holders for now but hopefully, after a while, the law can be further modified so that it doesn't just apply to HCP holders but to anyone who is otherwise legally able to possess/transport a firearm (that would take care of hunters, sport shooters, etc or maybe everyone once we get Constitutional carry in TN).

I suspect that at some point, they will come and get us one at a time, but likely even in broad daylight. While I don't have any suspicion that it will happen soon I do think we are on an interstate that has no exit ramps left as we head at full-speed toward a complete nanny state.

Very true...I expect to be able to reduce my BP medication soon. ;)

Best eating establishments in Middle - East Tn area?

In Nashville I highly recommend Nero's Grill. I honestly don't know if they are carry friendly or not but I've never seen a sign on their door. -
Again, sorry...if you want to be pissed at me then I guess you'll be pissed at me.

Full size pickup opine...Tundra, Titan, Ram, F-150, Silverado?

For purely personal (political) reasons I'll never buy another GM product which is hard for me as I grew up in a GM family and my first three new cars were all Pontiac Firebirds (a 400 Formula and then two TransAms). I fee the same for Cyrhsler products although I don't have much emotional history tied up with Chrysler. I've owned several Ford products including a couple of pickups and they were great trucks. I've owned one Titan, two Armadas and one QX56 (which were mechanically identical to the Titan at the time) and the only problems I've ever had were with the first generation Titan and the only major problem with it were the breaks which was actually a supplier issue. Were I buying something new today I'd ether go with a Ford F150 (or larger) or another Titan. The Toyota trucks are nice but I think very overpriced and I don't believe they stack up that well with Ford or GM for that matter. -
Ramsey is an F'ing idiot and political hack...he KNEW EXACTLY that the bill HE forced through last year was a pile of :poop: and went with it anyway. All the Republican establishment were pissing in their pants because of what happened to Maggert so they went with this bill in the apparent hope that HCP holders are as stupid and easily fooled as most liberals.

Amen to that. Frankly I think it's about time all the Zimmerman related threads were locked and a minimum of a 3 month moratorium declared on starting any new ones.
-
Amen to that...I'll save my gas for worthy causes! ;)

Under Florida's incredibly good civil immunity law they have no chance of even getting to first base with a civil suite even if Zimmerman was a billionaire.

I see. I don't own a Springfield RO but my brother does; it's a sweet gun, especially for the money. I can't comment on the STI as I've never shot one.

Good grief; lighten up...can't you tell when someone is making a joke??? Hell, every time I go to Rangemasters for training I can guarantee you that someone will quip that I'll probably get a chance to use my new skills while I'm there...it isn't my fault if its like the 5th or 6th most dangerous cities in the country; just eight index points behind Detroit . :screwy:

Zimmerman Trial: Verdict Reached!
RobertNashville replied to TripleDigitRide's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Did he take a risk? Yes. I've taken a risk reporting a suspicious person not long ago when I took a pic of pickup truck (lic plate) of a man who was almost certainly browsing homes for potential burglary....he was going door to door claiming to be a property inspector (he obviously wasn't) and seemed very intersted in what he could see from the front door when the person who was home answered it. If he had been armed and of a mind to he might well have come after me when he saw me take the pic (instead he hightailed it out of the neighborhood). But, I guess I was okay because I stayed in my truck. ;) There is no evidence that Zimmerman was trying to do anything other than trying to see where Martin went so he could be a good witness once the police showed up...I suppose that's a "risk" but seems like a minor one except in hindsight (which of course, Zimmerman didn't have the benefit of...we do!). -
Considering the violent crime rate in Memphis (where you profile says you live) aren't you sort of in a "bad situation" every day? ;) Don't ever leave you truck!

It's probably impossible given that it was, I believe, a settlement, but I would love to see the HOA sue Martin's parents to get their money back. In the first place, the HOA did absolutely nothing wrong and shouldn't have had to pay anything but the who suite was predicated on an assumption that Zimmerman's claim of self defense was bogus. Now that his use of deadly force has been vindicated the HOA, who shouldn't have been liable for anything in the first place are even less liable for what we now know was a righteous shoot.
-
This is kind of like asking "which gun is best for me?". :) There is no right answer that anyone else can really give you as it's so very dependent on YOU.
-
I'd go further...this is a case study for how justifiably defending yourself with deadly force can go horribly wrong. Moreover, the same or very similar series of events could happen to ANYONE here; even those who are part of the "should have stayed in his truck/JFT" crowd
-
They are going to have a hell of a time proving the the Martin's "civil rights" were violated... when you violently attack someone with sufficient force to put them in legitimate fear for their lives (which is the foundation of Zimmerman's accepted, by the jury, claim of self defense) what "civil rights" do you have? Once you cross that line you don't even have the right to life which is why the victim is allowed to use deadly force in the first place. Couple that with Zimmerman's long history of not only not being a racist but of actively helping his community and all races, especially blacks and FBI published findings that THEY couldn't find any evidence of racial bias; trying to prove Zimmerman did anything that night except defend his life after being violently attacked is going to be an uphill battle indeed. Further, if the DOJ does go after him then we should show up by the hundreds of thousands demanding that they investigate and prosecute those who have threatened Zimmerman's life.

Zimmerman/Martin- race reversal.

I can almost here it now... ...If only Scott had just stayed in his house that sweet, little 16 year old would still be alive...." -
Zimmerman Trial: Verdict Reached!

I guess the feds may as well wast more of our tax payer money - it's not worth anything anyway. One of the things we now know with certainty is that Zimmerman's life has shown he is anything but a racist...trying to prove he acted to negate Martin's civil rights will be a fool's errand unless they pack the jury with race haters who won't let themselves be confused by the facts. That's one of the reasons the prosecution didn't want that information about Zimmerman introduced at trial because they knew that if it was there is no way a jury could believe that Zimmerman "racially profiled" Martin. -
I don't support thugs or thugs in training like Trayvon Martin. They not only shouldn't be supported; they should be locked up and kept far away from civil society. If a rally is needed, it would be a rally for George Zimmerman who who was prosecuted for a crime that both the defense and those who prosecuted him knew full well he was not guilty of or we should have a rally to celebrate that despite the ludicrous and unjust charges leveled at him, the justice system WORKED and set free a man who appropriately used deadly force in defense of his life; perhaps our most basic and most important natural right we have a human beings.
-
Rally? Rally for the thug? ROTFLMAO  Maybe you should donate more money to the thug's parents; they've probably already blown through the $Million settlement they got...the HOA ought to sue them to get their money back now that we know the Zimmerman acted in justified self defense.
