I tend to agree but I don't think we can blame all of this on either the voters or the politicians...one of the reasons that government at all levels has grown out of control is the never satisfied appetite of the vast majority of Americans for more government "stuff"...even many of those of us who claim to want to be free and independent are likely far more dependent on government goodies than we are willing to admit or perhaps even realize.

Unfortunately I think you are right. I have a couple of like-minded friends that I would be reaching out to should something like the brown shirts start happening and I know more than a few of my neighbors (some of whom are also like-minded) because of our neighborhood watch program. Even so, almost everyone in today's society is "alone"...would anyone notice if they came to get me tonight? Eventually but not immediately. I would, at least, like to think they would care. ;)

What if all of this is for nothing

Katrina was a game changer for me as was participating in a couple of mock disaster events with TEMA/FEMA...I've no love for FEMA but bottom line is that being prepared for emergencies is some of the best and most useful the Federal govt actually puts out. -
I buy a lot of stuff online from Cabella's...sort of hope they don't build in TN so they don't have to charge me sales tax (not that I don't self-report of course).

I don't think anyone was accusing you of wanting a revolution; just trying to understand where you stand as there have been a few recent comers to TGO who really seem to want to have an armed rebellion! I also don't think the U.S. Military is incompetent; not at all. That said, it's been true through most of history that a formal military is always somewhat of a disadvantage to well-organized (and especially highly motivated) resistance fighters. In a very real way, that had a great deal of impact in turning the tide on the Brits in the first Civil War; irregulars who didn't fight the "proper" way that the British knew. Anyway...as I noted in my initial reply to you; I think the country's course is an inevitability at this point...and that makes me very sad for my young niece and nephew and all the generation that will never know what the real America was like.

NO GUN 4 U! (says Holder to Zim)
RobertNashville replied to RichardR's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Holding the evidence while there is still an open investigation (even if the investigation is a staged one) is not a big deal. I predict that after a period of time and most of the racists and "social engineers" have quieted down and bit and most others are simply tired of hearing about "justice for Trayvon"; Holder will issue a press release that the law sets such a "high bar" for conviction and some lame excuses he'll say that the DOJ is not going to bring charges in the case. Ultimately, I think Holder would prefer to not file charges on some excuses than to file charges it knows it can't win and look much worse. In the meantime, if Zimmerman needs a firearm I'll loan him one of mine. -
Woman Stabbed In Opry Mills Mall Parking Lot

I'm surprised it wasn't a Walmart. :) I go there on a semi-regular basis; mostly for Bass Pro. -
Nope...not that I've ever seen and not according to Cabella's website...maybe the person who said that was thinking of Bass Pro.

How is this NOT the most racist thing you ever heard?

Which might at least partially explain why some 50% of the population are living completely or almost completely off the other 50%. -
Prayers for certain. Absolutely agree on the exams...I get them regularly...don't like them...but I get them. :)

What if all of this is for nothing

I don't have elaborate plans/preparations...how effective they will be depends on exactly what the emergency is. Most of my plan is to survive in place (unless of course something happens that forces me to relocate such as a local natural disaster, etc.) Nothing I have would not be useful to someone else, a shelter, other family, etc...eventually; it will get used by someone. For the most part, what I have is what used to be "normal" for my parents/grandparents. -

The public school system, as a whole, is a complete and abject failure as are just about all government programs/institutions. Most kids coming out of the public system in the past 40 years know almost nothing worthwhile and more importantly, have no idea how to even think rationally. Only those who have chosen to educate themselves after being in the public system have any real intelligence or ability to process data in a logical, rational way. Of course there are always exceptions...individual schools/school systems...individual excellent teachers; but they are the exception. -
Jeantel strikes again... holy moly they just keep coming
RobertNashville replied to Sam1's topic in General Chat
I see three opportunities for her future that may prevent her from just being a welfare mom. 1. Residuals for being a poster child for everything that is wrong with our public school system 2. Reality TV show 3. Winning the PowerBall lottery. Unfortunately, given her level of intelligence, I'm fairly confident that no matter how much money any of the three scenarios brings her, she'll just blow it all and still wind op on welfare. -
It is scary anytime we can agree on something! My viewpoint of were we are now as a country hasn't come easily or quickly...but is has come. I still have hope (and I know this will likely offend some) that God isn't done with us yet and might still intervene but without divine involvement I don't see a lot of hope. As much as I dislike McCain, I think that election was the point of no return...Obama getting a second term just sealed the deal, so to speak...their agenda, which started over a hundred years ago, is now, I think, unstoppable and I think we could see this administration get pretty ugly with "patriots" as they make sure their agenda reaches its full potential; only sweeping "gun control" and amnesty for 20Million plus illegals is left for them to accomplish and they've got over three years to push for both (with a lot of "moderate" Republican help). Anyway.... Well...are you a "Glock" or a "1911" guy...I can probably argue from either point of view. Or maybe argue about what is the single best all-time weapon for home defense??? ;)

I've asked this of others who, in other settings and in other threads, have intimated that "voting" or "the polls" are the answer but I wonder; on what basis do you think that voting in different people will actually change anything? No Democrat is going to change anything. 80% of (the establishment) Republicans aren't going to change anything any more than the Democrats will. The third parties (Conservative, Libertarian or whatever the third party flavor of the moment exists) don't have enough support to even get elected; much less change anything. Of the decent, conservative/libertarian, principled people who have been elected most of those have fallen comfortably into the establishment. I see no candidate, let alone enough of them, to effect any change whatsoever or that they want to effect change...no one has the balls to even tread water and just stop government spending and intrusion where it is now. So please tell me how the polls are going to change anything?

I disagree but not completely. Armed revolt? No. But I do see the end coming and a chance at a new beginning. There are $Trillions upon $Trillions of obligations of the government that it can never...NEVER meet. The government has been monetizing our debt for most of Obama's reign and continues to do so at amounts most of us can't even conceive of. Personal debt is beyond the ability of most people to actually pay off if they are honest with themselves. One-half of the population is either completely or almost completely dependent on the other 50% (through the government) to stay alive and even of the 50% paying the bills through their taxes they are almost as dependent on various government programs and don't even realize it (or refuse to acknowledge it). To say that our economy is a house of cards gives it FAR too much credit/strength...a house built of tissue paper would be a more apt analogy. Anyone who knows that 2 + 2 doesn't equal 3 can understand why I say that this country will have a complete economic collapse- although I pray I'm wrong I'm now as sure that it will happen as I am that the sun will rise in the East tomorrow morning. It will come after a time as an inevitability or it could come almost instantly with one major trigger event that could happen at any time. So...armed rebellion? No; I don't think that will happen and I don't really think it will be necessary. In a collapse the so-called Federal Government will be not much more than a memory and each state will have a chance for a do-over at at some point, the individual states (or at least most of them) will have a chance to come together and reconstitute the United States as the founders intended...I don't think that will take a rebellion; at least not an armed one. Of course, I could be wrong...what do I know. :panic:
-
I plan to do the latter before the former happens but in any case, in a complete economic collapse I think that (dying) will happen to a lot of folks before any government, socialist or otherwise will be able to emerge from the chaos
-
Sorry. Problems too advanced; too severe...this won't be turned around with candidates or elections. As I've said many times before, I'll keep voting...but not because I think it will make a difference.
-
True, they didn't lose hope...they just started an armed rebellion! My "lost hope" is in seeing anything change based on electing different people to office...even if I thought there were enough good people who could be elected at one time who actually wanted to affect change, which I don't, I think the country has gone too far. Put another way, we aren't just heading down the river of economic collapse; we are a heartbeat away from going over the falls. I see it as nothing more than a matter of time before a total economic collapse (unless something just as big happens first).

Of course he left; he was here to post his insight into the trial...the trial is over (not that anyone seems willing to stop rehashing it!`). You weren't "thrown under the bus"; it was pointed out that you were one of the very few people who voiced a problem with Andrew posting here. There is one and only one proscribed way to handle issues like you seem/seemed to have with Andrew and that is to report it to David and/or the mods and let them handle it...that's what they are there for. I don't know who if anyone actually made the report (I'm pretty sure you said, at one time that you had) and apparently Mike did as well but Andrew kept posting pretty much right through the last day of testimony so I guess they didn't have a problem with it.
