John McCain is a man who went through hell as a prisoner of war because he chose to defend his country in a wildly unpopular war and we should never forget the sacrifice he and so many men AND women made; especially those who made the final sacrifice. As a politician, John McCain is a worthless piece of crap who deserves to be ignored and retired by the voters and who is absolute proof of how utterly void of rational thought and principles the Republican party is (because if they were capable of rational thought and had any principles the party would not allow McCain to identify himself or run under the banner of the Republican party). All that said, I'm so not surprised that he is against SYG laws that telling me that the sun will set in the West this evening will get the same level of surprise from me.

If you are looking for any group to be the "perfect group" I suspect you are going to be looking for a very long time. So what if the "moderator" said they were a "Christian group"? He/she was just a person with an opinion with no more value than any other; why would you care what that moderator "insisted" on? If that moderator didn't like your idea I'd bet there were people there who did and if they didn't I'm sure there is a Tea Party group around who would....I'm also sure that some Tea Party groups are dominated by "Christians" and others aren't; find one that isn't it that's what it takes for you. I've gone to Tea Party gatherings to hear what people have to say but I sure don't take orders from them nor do I expect them to take orders from me or even agree with me.

I’m not now nor have I ever advocated “revolution†so I’m not even going to address that part of your post since it really doesn’t apply to me. I don’t think my question is all that difficult to answer; I think the issue is that no one really wants to face the answer. I asked what makes you (or anyone) think that next ten or twenty elections will actually make a difference; I submit that the only realistic answer is that they won’t make a difference. Different reasons for that can be cited (bad candidates, wrong “party†winning, problems too severe/too far along for there to be time to change things, lack of courage among those elected to actually do what needs to be done, etc.) but the end result is the same…the United States will collapse under the weight of its own government. There is nothing “spurious†in my simply noting the complete ineffectiveness of the Libertarian Party…facts are facts, as they say, and the Libertarian Party has NEVER been an effective force on the national level (or really the state level for that matter). In 2012, all the third-parties combined garnered just 1.7% of the popular vote (and yes I realize Presidents aren’t elected by the popular vote but I believe the statistics are still relevant to show overall effectiveness/popularity)…of that 1.7% the Libertarian Party's share was .99% of it which, I believe, was the best it has EVER done…a whopping 0.99% of the total…someone color me not surprised!!! What that number means is that for a Libertarian Party candidate to win the presidency, he would have to move from getting that whopping 0.99% to garnering at least 33.4% for a plurality of the votes…that would be quite a turn-around; a 3,394% increase if my math is right this morning. You call my argument spurious yet you say that “if even a small portion of the people who are fed up would put their money where their mouth is and vote third party, things would change in a hurry.†Really? A small portion? How is a small portion going to more an irrelevant third party into one that is strong enough that it could have a real impact on the national level? It seems to me it’s going to require a HUGE portion of people who are fed up and would put their money where their mouth is! Moreover, it would take people you just got done saying are “brainwashed by the rhetoric of the two-party systemâ€! How is the Libertarian Party going to take all those brainwashed voters and turn them into lucid, thoughtful little Libertarians? Is there a camp we can all go to that will get our minds straight? ;) If there is a spurious argument here I think it’s the argument that the Libertarians can/will ever be anything other than a fringe party. Your comments about brainwashed voters is also bit insulting. Do you not realize that some of us don’t vote for Libertarian candidates because we simply don’t agree with the Libertarian Party? I’m not a Libertarian, I’m not a Republican; I suppose you could call me a [r]epublican or perhaps more appropriately, a conservative but whatever you call me, I don’t vote Libertarian because I don’t agree with enough of its platform nor have I yet seen a candidate that I would actually want to be in high office…maybe that will change in the future but I rather doubt it. More to the point and I say again, I don’t believe there will ever be enough men and women elected to Congress or the Presidency who actually have the courage and the convictions to do what truly needs to be done to return this country to its Constitutional boundaries and financial solvency and certainly not enough to do so in time to keep the country from collapsing economically. I hate being this pessimistic and I literally pray that I’m wrong…but I don’t think I am. I'm fine with you or anyone else sticking withe the Libertarians but when you look behind the curtain I think, with very rare exception, it's all the same gutless, condescending, power-hungry crap politicians we've been getting for most of the past hundred years or so.

I may have my "numbers" mixed up but if I understood Mass correctly, taking the MAG 20 and then the MAG 40 is the equivalent of the MAG 80 class...the MAG 40 is the hands-on live fire 20 hours class while the MAG 20 is the legal side of it. There are locations in the area that teach the Firearm portion of his course so that you can get both parts in. :)

NO GUN 4 U! (says Holder to Zim)
RobertNashville replied to RichardR's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I agree that "stand your ground" was never an issue in this case; it's the press, Obama, Holder and those with an agenda that kept pushing that phrase but that was never part of Zimmerman's defense. That said, I have to disagree a bit here (even though I'm not an attorney) as to "justifiable homicide"; it isn't just a catch phrase. Any killing of a person by another person IS a homicide. If the homicide is not justified it is murder (of one degree/flavor or another). If the homicide is justified it is not "murder" of any flavor; it is justifiable homicide. I agree that he state did not prove Zimmerman intended to kill Martin but that's only part of the whole - Zimmerman's sole defense was that he killed Martin in self defense and that affirmative was accepted by the jury...if Zimmerman used deadly force appropriately (i.e. in self defense) then he cann't be guilty of murder of any degree and if you read the actual wording of the verdict, Zimmerman was found to be not guilty of the charge or murder 2 and of the charge of manslaughter (both charges are just two different flavors of murder). Perhaps a distinction without a difference. As to Holder, I would submit that he doesn't give a damn about the law...all he cares about is his very long standing agenda and he'll use any excuse to push it forward. -
Obama Piles On the Zimmerman Case

So true; I'd take a pragmatic womanizer almost any day over a socialist dictator-want-a-be. Then again, there aren't many past presidents or even those who wanted the job that I wouldn't want more than the current apologizer-in-chief. -

Well, KelTec would have to pay royalties to the egg donor mom since she is trademarking Trayvon's name for the marketing rights. ;) -
We all lost for only one reason; race baiging...from the Obama administration...from the usual suspects like Sharpton and Jackson...and from the segment of the black community who can only see themselves as "victims" and through the lenses of race. This trial, if there was even to be a trial, should have been handled like any other...based on objective evidence and objective evidence alone. Even most of the police officers who testified on behalf of the prosecution supported Martin's account of events...the original DA didn't see evidence of a crime (or at least not enough to file charges, even minor ones). The race baiters demanded a trial...the got one...they didn't get the verdict they wanted so they are still mad and want him tried again of some trumped up "civil rights" charges. Once Trayvon Martin decided to violently attack George Zimmerman and put Zimmerman in legitimate fear for his life (which is what the jury decided happened) Martin lost his rights; even the most basic one...the right to life. Barkley is guilty of the same racial view claiming that Zimmerman racially profiled Martin. DId he profile Martin? Probably but it was probably because Martin was acting like a thug/burgher would act...to assume that it was all based on "race" is, at best, something that no one can know.

Mine too but I was too polite to say it. ;) -

Since he spent so much time in Chicago and more importantly, in Chicago politics; could he actually be anything but a thief, bully, and thug? -
I didn't take the comment personally....should I have??? ;)

I agree, progress can be made at the state level but ultimately, I think we have to be extremely concerned at what comes out of Washington because at least right now; the axis of evil in TN would bend over and say "please sir may I have another" to pretty much anything the feds want TN to do.

By the way; Buckeye Firearms Association is raising funds to buy Zimmerman a new gun! :) At the same time.... Trayvon's "parents" (and I use that term loosely) are concentrating on cashing in on Trayvon's name; I'm sure they are still grief-stricken however. -

It's double jeopardy...just calling it a different crime for the exact same act doesn't change that. The DOJ will continue to get away with it just like they get away with all the other unconstitutional laws but it's still double jeopardy. Zimmerman killed Martin; he committed a homicide...no one has ever denied that. He did so in justified self-defense; a jury said so making it justifiable homicide. Making any claim now that justifiably killing Martin is a civil rights crime is horses**t. :) Of course, Zimmerman is also a "white-Hispanic" and Martin was a choir boy who was just out doing good works. -
Well, I hate to be this pessimistic but I really don't see anything changing no matter who gets elected...little "wins"...picking up a few seats here or there just isn't going to cut it in my opinion...the problems are far too big and too immediate for that kind of incrementalism to work anymore. I don't even see one worthy leader out there who can spearhead real change; much less enough followers to make it happen.

The "beararms.com" one is the one I use...no real need to get overly complicated. As my friend drv2fst noted, you do need to try and verify the state of residence so you know you are doing an in-state transfer, a TN DL or an HCP handles that nicely and the HCP gives more assurance that you aren't selling to a felon, some other prohibited person. :)

Did you get a new Porsche or is that one just a memory?
-
With an egg donor like that for a "mom" (and I'm definitely using the word "mom" in its most generic sense); is is any wonder that the thug was on the path he was on?
-
It's generally pretty easy. In Tennessee you can sell to any private party with, essentially a handshake (although I recommend you do a standard transfer form, available on the internet so you have a record of what happened to the firearm). If you want to go through a dealer and do a formal background check, etc you can do so but it's not required. I generally just deal with people that have an HCP. When transferring to a seller out of state you need to process the sale through a dealer...you would usually arrange to ship the firearm to a FFL of the buyer's choosing (after getting payment of course) and the FFL handles it from there. Gunbroker.com is a great way to sell online (it works much like eBay). Armslist.com is another site and it's free but personally I feel much better using Gunbroker. No specific reason for that...just feel that way. There are also TN Groups on Facebook that lists firearms for sale too but for me, Facebook doesn't really lend itself to that kind of purpose. Of course, if you are a TGO Benefactor you can list your firearm for sale on TGO.

That sounds very reasonable but it seems to me Conservatives (or at least more conservative than the status quo) have tried to get the attention of the establishment Republicans at least a couple of times in the past 20 or 30 years and nearly a million of us marched on Washington in 2009 and I've seen nothing substantial really come of it....just a lot of platitudes and a lot of "activity" but nothing actually changed or didn't change for very long. What is it that causes you to believe anything is going to change going forward? I truly don't think anything is going to change until we crash...Detroit is, today, facing the choices it's made over the past many, many decades...I believe that same reality is eventually going to catch up with every city, every state and the Federal government as well.

I don't think anyone is so complacient that they think it can't happen here. At the same time, I don't think any such measure(s) would gain ground here because there is one universal truth about politicians; they all want power which means they all want to be reelected. I think much more than a majority of them know that if they ever tried to turn back the clock on the gains we've made in the past 15-20 years it would make the income tax fiasco look like a playground scuffle.

I disagree that the Tea Party is a failure; it's only a failure if the only measurement of "success" is a complete clearing out of every RINO/PROGRSSIVE/NEOCONSERVATIVE in government. I would submit that, with VERY rare exception, the only members of the current Congress that are worth a damn at all are candidates that were found, vetted and supported by Tea Party groups across the country and often done in opposition to the party establishment. Has it made a real difference? No...but in these cases the lack of effectiveness is mostly a result of there being too few of these types of candidates. If you think the Tea Party movement (and make no mistake, it's a movement, not a "party") is a failure how much more so is the Libertarian Party or any other third party? Historically, what's the best, percentage wise, that the Libertarian party has ever done in a presidential election? Have they even broken 5%? How is it that you think they can move to getting at least a plurality of the vote given their track history? I still don't seen anything changing at the ballot box and so far, no one has actually answered my question directly.

1. (if memory serves) cops beat a man with batons and continued to do so after he was down. The incident, captured on tape, was pretty horrific to watch. I also recall that the officers even boasted about it a bit immediately afterwords. Every cop I knew said those cops should go to jail and there was plenty of evidence but the jury had one or two holdouts. 2. Thug jumps and starts beating a victim and the victim defends himself with deadly force. Original investigation decided not to charge. That didn't satisfy the thug's parents or the race baiters so they threatened the State of FL until they decided to go shopping for a DA who would prosecute even though they knew they didn't have the evidence to justify the charge much less win. And then the big surprise; the jury saw that the emperor had no close and they found the victim not guilty. The cops should have gone to jail form the first trial...they didn't. Zimmerman should have been acquitted....he was. Bottom line; no one should be charged twice for the same crime...NO ONE...the justice system should get one shot at convicting a person and if they can't get a jury convinced beyond a reasonable doubt that's where it should stop. -
I'll ask you the same question I've been asking; what makes you think even the next ten or even 20 elections will actually make a difference regardless of who is voted in? While I could, perhaps, point to an individual politician here or there who might hold to the founder's principles and might truly try to affect change, as a collective, I've seen nothing form any party that gives me any reason to think that either Congress, the Presidency or even the vast majority of their State equivalents has the courage or even the desire whatsoever to shrink government or try to return to the boundaries of the Constitution...as I noted earlier in this thread; they don't even have the balls to just keep the size and scope of government (and government spending) where it is today let alone actually shrink it. I've studied our history and I've been voting since 1972...I've worked for candidates...knocked on doors...called...written letters...emailed...tried to get others to care...the only bright spot I've seen in 40 years was Ronald Reagan and probably half the people here think he was as bad of a leader as anyone else and part of the problem. We've been heading down this road we are on since at least the days of Woodrow Wilson; maybe even Teddy Roosevelt so tell me, please, what difference is the ballot box going to make at this point?
