Chattanooga church meeting to discuss Stand Your Ground
RobertNashville replied to Junkstack's topic in General Chat
If these folks actually cared about facts and logic they wouldn't need to hold a meeting. -
We've deemed you crazy for having a gun

Crazy hell...according to DHS most of us are domestic terrorists. -
Gathering information/advice concerning my nieces.

First of all; loads of applause for you doing this! Second; if he is willing to let his children stay with you for school I would think he would be okay with executing a medical POA and I wouldn't be surprised of there isn't one of our attorney's here on TGO who might see this and be willing to do one for you for very little cost (and there is always "Legal Zoom" and other sites that do inexpensive ones. Third, TenCare does sound like a good option here but to answer your question, I believe that if you TAKE financial responsibility for them if they are, for example, admitted to the hospital, then you would be on the hook but only if you actually sign up for that trip...maybe you should sit down with your local hospital financial staff and explain your situation; they may be able to offer some insight that none of us have thought of. -
I read it...I think the author missed the real point of the issue. It's not what weapons or vehicles or uniforms that cops have, it's doing these raids at all. I think most people can understand and support SWAT style raids when you have an active shooter; barricaded individual; hostages, etc...but not for someone with a dozen pot plants or any other non-violent situation (or where no one's lives are in imminent danger) these raids trample on our rights for no good reason.

That's a good read and one I've shared on facebook. The question is; what can we do about it? I'm thinking that maybe the most useful approach is to, as a matter of legislation, get the state or our towns, counties, etc. to essentially make these kinds of raids illegal as a matter of law except for rare circumstances and even in those circumstances, with significant oversight to ensure that these 'SWAT" raids, no-knock warrants, etc are absolutely necessary. Of course, that's not going to protect us from our imperial overlords like the IRS, DHS, DeptOfEd, DEA, BATFE, FBI, etc., etc.

I gave a 22/45 to my 12 year old niece last Christmas...I had it brand new and an SR22; I decided to keep the SR22 and give her the 22/45. I sort of wish I had kept the 22/45. :) I warned my broher-in-law to NOT disassemble the 22/45...he did anyway...he later apologized for doubting me! ;)

Relax, it was just a joke...just my way of addressing the almost religious mantra of "should have stayed in his truck". You are right, as far as we know, little Trayvon didn't do anything wrong...at least not until he violently attacked Zimmerman. ;)

Is the argument that voting for a third party is throwing your vote away a tired, old argument? YES Is voting for a third party throwing your vote away? YES I would be VERY happy to vote for a third party candidate (assuming he/she is worth my vote) just as soon as said third party can rationally explain/demonstrate how they are going garner enough votes to knock off candidates from the two major parties because they most certainly going to have to do something very different than they've been doing. As I noted above, in the last (2012) election, all the third-parties combined garnered just 1.7% of the popular vote with the Libertarian party getting 0.99% of the total. For the Libertarian (or any other third) party to win a presidential election they are going to have to win at least a plurality of the votes cast (approximately 33.4%) which is one hell of an increase compared to their track record so far. So, until the Libertarian or whatever third party can show me how they are going to do that the "throwing your vote away" is still a valid assessment.

How do Republicans look at polls?

Obviously, you didn't get it. -

I see no reason to repeat yourself like that. -
While this particular model is not my "unicorn" gun, there is something undeniably special about a lever action rifle. I might even suggest that any true firearm enthusiast should own at least one example. ;)

It must have been a black truck???

Would it be in bad taste if I said Zimmerman "should have stayed in his truck"? I mean over the past 18 months of so I was beat over the head with that "should have stayed in his truck" statement! ;)

Obama to talk JOBS..???????
RobertNashville replied to Randall53's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Whether they start in their own neighborhoods or not, I doubt they would stay in their own neighborhoods. -
No need to be surprised...the police who are on the force now are more and more, those "kids" who have come up through a 100% politically correct education system where students, if they are taught anything at all, are taught everything but the values and responsibilities our country was founded on. I'd venture to say that most younger cops don't "like" guns at all so of course they don't like them in the hands of mere citizens and they likely have an inflated feeling of self-importance. The above is certainly not true of all cops but I believe it is true of an ever increasing number of them as they guys with real time behind the badge retire or quit.

Obama to talk JOBS..???????
RobertNashville replied to Randall53's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Not really amazing; you almost get more of what you subsidize and when you subsidize not working that's pretty much what you'll get. Certainly not all but many of the people not working don't have a very strong desire to work in the first place and they certainly have no desire to work if they can get by on all the government programs. If these programs are ever cut off (either on purpose of in an economic collapse) we'll see riots that will make the 60's look like playtime. -
Obama to talk JOBS..???????
RobertNashville replied to Randall53's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
He might as well talk about jobs; he sure as hell isn't good at doing anything to help create them. -
Yes...I fear that if police ever do this to my home I'm almost certainly going to die and quite possibly one or more police officers will die too. In this day and age, you pretty much have to assume that someone bashing in your door is there to do you harm nor can you assume that just because they yell "Police Officer" that they really are police officers and not just a group of thugs.

The best way to handle it in my opinion is to sue the shit out of the PD/city, etc. and make these acts so damn expensive that they'll change the way they do things. AND CONCURRENTLY... Get enough voters in the town riled up enough that the city council (or however they make the laws for that town) outlaw these kinds of raids...there are plenty of ways to catch bad guys without busting down a door at 6AM which often puts INNOCENT'S lives at risk (assuming they ever got the right address)...sometimes I think these police departments do this kind of stuff just because they think it's cool.

I really wish you wouldn't fake a quote of mine, Mike. I don't really care if John McCain was a horrid pilot or the most gifted pilot that ever climbed into a jet...we lost far, far too many pilots and troops in that war and I'm sure they weren't all shot down because of the quality of their flying. I was on the "firing" end of my ship's missile system and I can tell you from experience that those missiles are difficult to beat once they lock on to an aircraft. I don't care how bad of a senator he is, he chose to wear the uniform and put his life in danger...either he deserves respect for that or no veteran does.

These turkeys don't care about SYG...they care about power and their agenda; that's why Holder and the usual suspects are trying to turn this into a SYG crusade. Manslaughter would never have placated the race baiters and there is no doubt in my mind that the shopped for DA bypassed the already scheduled grand jury because she knew they would never come back with a charge of murder (and very likely wouldn't have indited Zimmerman for anything considering the overwhelming lack of evidence against him.
